Out and about in April 2003 By Sandra & Frank

April 10th the Cleethorpes country music club met at the Winter Gardens with
Darren Busby. The last twice Darren has preformed at this venue he has picked up
awards for solo artiest of the year and the Southern Country radio CD of the
year, so as you can imagine the atmosphere was electric in a packed house.
Darren produced three great spots of mixed Country songs to suite the line
dancers and the listeners alike. Gwen Taylor in spite of her health not being
100% came to see Darren and it was nice when Darren dedicated the song
"What colour is the wind" to her. It is difficult to write anything
about Darren that hasn't been put before except thanks for a brilliant night on
April 10th and we are sure this comes from everyone who was attended this night.
April 17th another night cancelled by the Winter Gardens so we will have to wait
for the return of Harry Solo now rescheduled to appear on June 19th.
The following Thursday 24th saw the return to the Cleethorpes Country music club
of Stubby and what a brilliant night it was. This guy is a true professional who
has such a wide range of material. The songs of this night had a range from
some, which were popular twenty years ago to some of the latest country songs.
We really enjoyed all of the spots Stubby produced and we look forward to his
return to this club later in the year.
The following night we went o Barnetby Village hall for a special night to
celebrate the 60th Birthday of Dale Green (Ron Smith) and what a turn out, it
was the most people we have seen attend in all the years we have been coming to
this venue and rightly so as Dale Green has done so much for British Country
Music over the years, plus were else can you get five live acts for £3?
The night started on time with compare Ken Muzzall introducing the Dale Green
Country Music Band who played some fifteen good country numbers including Good
Hearted Women, The cowboy Rides Away, Give a Lonely Heart a Home, Vertical
Expressions and Eighteen Yellow Roses just before finishing their spot Dale
dedicated the song Devoted Women which he wrote himself to his wife Joyce.
Next up was Woody whose spot was made up of true country numbers like The
Country Club, Forever and ever amen, before finishing off with a medley of
country classics making it a very enjoyable spot.
Jonny Williams who as always gave a first class performance followed Woody on
stage with songs including Walk through this world, Ill give you something to
dream about, Using my Bible for a Road map, Don't the Girls Get Prettier at
Closing Time, before finishing with shout of more to which he was eager to
oblige.
After a break for a huge raffle and time for us all to partake of the splendid
buffet, which had been laid on for Dale, it was back to live music with Nick and
Anita Country Contrast who produced one of the best spots we have seen this
couple perform it included The River, Memories, Ribbon of Highway, My father and
Me to name a small selection.
The night was running well late by the time the last act got on stage but who
better to do the last solo spot than the one and only local lad Darren Busby who
started with Loving all night and continued with several more lively numbers to
keep everyone in the party mood before slowing it down with California Blue
before bringing a first class spot to a close.
As customary at Barnetby, Ken assembled all five acts on stage for a jam session
four song which stood out were Okie From Muskogee, O Lonesome Me, The Streets of
Bakersfield and Good Hearted Women. A Brilliant Night which couldn't be faulted.
Many of you will know that Dale had only come out of hospital a few day
before his birthday and we understand he is waiting to see a specialist. We are
sure you will join with us and send him Best wishes and a speedy recovery.
