Euan Watterson completed a postgraduate
MSc in Information Technology at
University College London with a Distinction in 1999. He graduated from The University of Aberdeen with a First Class Honours Degree in Engineering Science in 1987.
He is a Chartered IT Professional and a Member of The British Computer Society.
He is a Chartered Engineer, a Member of The Institution of Civil Engineers and a Member
of The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management.
During his MScIT course Euan studied core computer science and electronic
engineering/telecommunications subjects.
Advanced subjects included Expert Systems and Databases (including SQL). He has become fluent in
C++, Java, HTML and Javascript programming. He has experience of MFC and Visual C++. His MScIT project involved the design and
implementation of Aquarius: a linear pipeline hydraulics simulation program in Java, using Swing, object-oriented design and Unified Modelling Language (UML).
Between 2000 and 2003 Euan worked as a Project Manager/Software Engineer for Sunrise Systems Ltd.
His work involved the management, design and implementation of a new fluid flow analysis computer
program in C++ using Visual C++ and the STL, MFC, UML and object-oriented design. Additional responsibilities included web page design and maintenance using HTML and Javascript,
customer liaison, preparation of advertising and marketing materials, and QA auditing.
Between 1987 and 1998 Euan worked for Mott MacDonald
Ltd (formerly Sir M MacDonald and Partners), a multi-disciplinary, international, firm of consulting engineers.
He has experience in water supply engineering with civil engineering site supervision, including
overseas work in Uganda, Indonesia, Malaysia and Pakistan. In 1994 he designed and implemented a computerised training
database for Uganda's National Water and Sewerage Corporation. He has extensive experience of water mains rehabilitation
studies in the UK and overseas and has been Project Manager on a number of water supply projects.
He became Mott MacDonald's specialist in hydraulic transient analysis (surge analysis).
From 1997 to 1998 he provided engineering advice to Severn Trent Water Ltd
for the specification and subsequent design of its Total Asset Management Planning Computer Software Suite.
