The GOFs
- GOF holiday 1905. This tells the story of a climbing tour by a group of British travellers – young and old, male and female – in the Swiss Alps. The text is from a bound typescript that once belonged to James Hawkins Grafton, publican of Grafton’s (now Finnegan’s Wake) in Strutton Ground (and my great-grandfather). I’ve no idea whether he was the author – I’m not even sure what GOF’ stands for. Presumably the text was written by one or more of the travellers in the third person, then a number of typed copies made using an early 20th-century version of the photocopier, before being bound in book form. There are numerous illustrations, a couple of which I have included in the text: I hope to add the rest when I can.
Please note that this is a fairly large file.
