Mange

Whether your dog has Sarcoptic or Demodectic (red) mange don't panic as the remedy is very simple and very effective!

Firstly it is said that a dog with mange has a low immune system and it is highly recommended that you get the dog on a raw feed diet before doing anything else.

Secondly you need to boost the dogs immune system, I recommend adding probiotics and apple cider vinegar to your dogs diet and adding Colloidal silver to their drinking water - the colloidal silver really does boost the immune system.

A hand reared puppy will never get mange as it is passed on from the mother whilst feeding. Every dog has a limited amount of mange mites but some get 'over loaded' with them due to having a poor immune system.

If you dog has had poor skin since a pup then it probably has mange. You can ask your vet to perform a simple skin scrape for mange - but too be honest I would not recommend buying the products that your vet gives you for it as I have heard too many stories of the vets solution having too many bad side effects.

After the diet change you need to give weekly baths for six weeks, you do this by washing the dog (we use normal baby shampoo) then rinsing thoroughly. After the dog has been washed and rinsed you need to make up a solution:

18 litres of water

200ml 5% or 6% Hydrogen peroxide

1/2 box of Borax

Its best to mix the solution in your bath and keep stirring it until almost all of the borax has dissolved. Then place the dog in the bath and keep rinsing him with it, making sure you get in all of the affected areas, especially in between the 'toes'.

It is vitally important that you DO NOT get any of the solution in the dogs eyes!

When the dog has been THOROUGHLY rinsed with the solution DO NOT rinse it off or dry him with a towel, just let him dry naturally.

You will see the difference from the first rinse and it will not harm your dog. The Hydrogen peroxide opens the pores and the Borax kills the mites and their eggs. The hydrogen peroxide is important as the mites can burrow 3-5 layers skin deep into the hair follicles.

Repeat this once a week for six weeks and the mange should be gone. For more stubborn cases you may have to repeat the rinsing every month or so or when you see the dog excessively scratching again.

You can buy the Borax from most major Boots stores and most chemists supply the Hydrogen peroxide. If you can't find a chemist that sells it then you can buy it off Ebay (and the borax too).

Make sure you have a happy dog, this way he will heal quicker. Observe your dog, where does he like to sleep the most? If he prefers to sleep away from his own bed then move the dogs bed to where he prefers to sleep. Check out this link into Geopathic stress.

Please note that these are the products/food that I have found to benefit MY dogs and should no way deter you from doing your own research or going to your vets.
