World Vision

Our support for this Christian charity started with sponsorship of a little girl in Bangladesh, changing to sponsorship of a community worker, and is currently involved with aid work in Myanmar (formerly Burma).
We do, however, allow experts to tell us where the specific need is for each year’s donation.

World Vision workers in many countries are involved with all aspects of improving life for the poor, with projects including:

  • Assisting communities to set up small businesses
  • Education of both adults and children (literacy, health care, agricultural methods etc.)
  • Supply and maintenance of clean water
  • Supply or loan of livestock and materials
  • Enabling people to become self sufficient, establishing a dignity for themselves.
The ethos of World Vision is to find out from the poor what help they need and to work with them to reach the stage where they can celebrate release from dependency on others.

As well as ongoing work, World Vision is ready with immediate assistance when disasters or emergencies occur.
In cases of floods, drought, famine or other catastrophes the “essentials” fund of World Vision provides as much aid as possible
In addition to our involvement as a Church, some individuals sponsor either a child or an aid worker and this is a very practical and rewarding way of being involved.

The more we learn about how World Vision works, the more we realises that:

a. Our contributions are being used in a practical way and full information is supplied about this.
b. We are enabling the experts in “the field” to complete yet another project and so move on to another area of need.
