Jibon Tari (’Boat of Life’) is a floating hospital sponsored by a UK charity. It is towed to parts of flooded Bangladesh, impossible to reach by road. Medical and other supplies can only be supplied by air, using whatever landing strips are available. Two Examples from many thousands of the relief work carried out by MAF worldwide. Their job is to be in otherwise totally inaccessible places, meeting the needs of those who otherwise would be unable to receive treatment. This is in addition to the work of MAF in spreading the Gospel. Mission workers can be flown to parts of the world that are virtually inaccessible by other means. St Martin’s gives an annual contribution to MAF and we often specify particular areas for help. Paul and Mary Duddridge are an English couple who went to Madagascar in 2000 following Paul’s appointment as MAF’s Chief Engineer there. In that year we asked for our donation to be used there. More recently we have been in touch with the Rissanen family who have moved from their work in Central Africa to a very different environment in Mongolia as part of the new MAF team starting their work there. They have been working through extreme winter cold but the work in Mongolia is big news in the MAF quarterly magazine. |
