Having appeared in dozens of adult films Bev Cocks is unquestionably Wales's leading porn star. Having incorporated her Welshness into her sexual persona she is also something of a cultural pioneer. Here Wrexham's answer to Linda Lovelace tells us how she went from being an amateur model to becoming one of Britain's best known porn stars... and why shooting porn in sub-zero temperatures is always a bad idea! The adult entertainment industry in not a conventional career choice - how did you end up in the business?

Bev Cocks: I ended up in porn after having some photos taken for my own collection years ago. I started off as an amateur model when I was asked to do some topless pics - it just went from there and I ended up in porn - my choice to take that route.

Do your family approve of your unconventional lifestyle?

Bev Cocks: Thankfully I have great parents who have supported me in all my choices right or wrong and although shocked at first they are very supportive and proud of me and of what I have achieved so far.

What was the first film/video you appeared in and what did you make of the experience?

Bev Cocks: The first film I ever appeared in was called Canal Boat Capers now called Canal Boat Sluts. I was working with Omar Williams and did normal vaginal and then anal. It was a good experience and Omar is a real gent - it certainly didn't put me off lets put it that way! I would certainly shoot with Omar again.

Do you genuinely enjoy doing sex scenes or does it become a mechanical exercise after a while?

Bev Cocks: No, I do definitely enjoy the sex. I have a very high sex drive, enjoy my job and genuinely like shooting the scenes with lots of the guys and girls. It's all about fancying someone - once you have that you can just get into it - so all the orgasms you see me have they are real, not faked.

Your husband Dean is also your business partner. How does your relationship fit around your job - is there ever any friction or jealousy?

Bev Cocks: Thankfully Dean isn't the jealous or possessive type. It does occasionally cause problems like when I'm away from him for long periods but he is really good with it and deals with the producers, photographers, agents etc for me while I'm away or busy. Everyone knows that if Dean takes the calls he will sort it for them and make the bookings. Whether I am away for one day, a week or a month he still sorts them out. Ours is just like any other marriage and business - you have to make sacrifices and compromises to be able to move forward. But we have a great relationship and are really very very close - we have no secrets.

Bev Cocks: Yes, all performers must have a HIV and STD test every 30 days. A lot of performers nowadays have gone condom only as well as having the tests.

Who are your favourite performers to work with and why?

Bev Cocks: I won't answer that one as I may forget to mention someone LMAO. But let's just say there are quite a few of the guys and girls I have shot photosets and videos with that I really do like working with and really do get into the sex... perhaps a little more than is necessary LOL.

Sometimes your job requires you to have sex with more than one person - what is the most amount of guys/girls you've had in one film?

Bev Cocks: I did a scene a few years ago with 6 guys in a minus 2 temperature! Needless to say the scene didn't work very well as it was so cold - I was shaking because I was freezing and the guys were so cold they couldn't really get it up enough to do any real work. It does kind of help if people warm sets up a bit but unfortunately we were in a garage and it was freezing!

Would you recommend a career in porn to other women?

Bev Cocks: Yes I would. As long as you are confident of your looks, sexuality etc and don't have a diva attitude you will do well. I hate divas because they make shoots harder to do as people have to tread around their attitudes.

You've appeared in dozens of film/videos - do you ever get recognised in the street and are you happy to chat to your fans?

Bev Cocks: Yes I do get recognised and I do chat to the fans - it's only when I get recognised and people hurl abuse that I don't like it. For one thing they must have seen me on one of the channels, watched a video/DVD or seen a magazine with me in - if they don't like what I or any other girls do, why watch and read the material then? They are just hypocrites!

You've had a boob job Bev - are you generally happy with your look and image at present?

Bev Cocks: Yes I had my boobs done 2 - 3 years ago mainly for my own self-esteem and confidence - I love my boobs now.

Of all the films/videos you have appeared in which is your favourite?

Bev Cocks: My current favourite is Footballers' Rude Lives - Phil McCavity's new film. I do a great DP (double penetration) scene in it with Ramone and Steve Hooper. I also like all the stuff I have done with Ben Dover, Marino - AKA Superdick, Relish and love doing all the bondage photosets and videos for Inxesse.

How long can you foresee yourself being in the industry?

Bev Cocks: I don't know to be honest - I am not ready to quit yet that's for sure!

Finally Bev, there are plenty of Welsh women in the industry at the moment but you're the one who is most obviously flying the flag - I'm talking of course about the Welsh dragon tattoo in the general vicinity of your bottom. What prompted you to have that done?

Bev Cocks: I just wanted something unique to me - lots of girls have dolphins or celtic bands on the lower back, I wanted to have something that represented my heritage and nationality in the best possible way, so I went for the Welsh dragon. I think it looks great where it is. Don't you?
