Dorothy Edwards
Although she only wrote two books (Rhapsody (1927) and Winter Sonata (1928)) Edwards showed outstanding literary promise. Sadly though her talent would remain unfulfilled after she threw herself under a train near Caerphilly in 1934. A suicide note was found in her pocket, it read: "I am killing myself because I have never sincerely loved any human being all my life. I have accepted kindness and friendship and even love without gratitude and given nothing in return." Curiously she committed the act barefoot and police never found any trace of her shoes.

Alun Lewis
Poet and short story writer penned some of the most memorable poetry of WW2. In his prophetic poem The Suicide he wrote:
"And he would take no respite from
The immaculate Gestapo of his brain."
He shot himself in 1944.

Peg Entwistle
Peg Entwistle's suicide has become part of Hollywood folklore. The girl from Port Talbot, after a series of failed auditions, threw herself off the Hollywood sign. Tragically the day after her death a letter arrived at her home offering her a part in a play. Doh!

Peter George
After the success of Dr Strangelove (based upon his novel Red Alert) George shot himself in the mouth. According to writer Terry Southern the Welshman had a drink problem. His obsession with a nuclear holocaust and his experiences in WW2 (his plane was shot down) point toward a depressive personality.

Pete Ham
The man who wrote the words I Can't Live if Living is Without You hanged himself in his garage studio after protracted contractual wranglings with his record company. His ashes were scattered in Morriston Cemetary, Swansea. Fellow member of rock group Badfinger Tommy Evans would also hang himself.

Rachel Roberts
Died of a drink and drugs overdose in 1980. It wasn't her first attempt at suicide but it was certainly her most successful.

Ronald Lewis
Former leading man in Fifties and Sixties British cinema, Lewis fell upon hard times and killed himself in his Pimlico flat in 1982.

Richie Edwards
In 1995 the car of Manic Street Preacher Edwards was found abandoned at a notorious suicide spot near the Severn Bridge. His body has never been recovered. Speculation as to the authenticity of this episode has continued unabated ever since.

John Lee
In January 2002, Feeder drummer John Lee hanged himself with a metal dog chain from the garage rafters of his Miami home. Three suicide notes were pinned to his shirt. He had been suffering from depression.
