Guillermo Davis "El Iyawo"

Guillermo Davis 'el iyawo' has been based in the UK since 2001 and in York since 2007. He is a leading exponent of Cuban Dance in the UK as an independent professional dancer and teacher, choreographer and artistic director. He teaches in York his Carnival Comparsa the Cuban Carnival Comparsa ¡SÍAA-KARÁAA! He specialises in Afro-Cuban and Haitian dance and Cuban popular dance including Salsa and Carnival dance.

His stage name 'El Iyawo' means 'son of a saint' in Yoruba. He is from Guantanamo, East Cuba.

Davis teaches Cuban dance forms from Salsa through to Afro-Cuban dance and Haitian Vodu. He is much loved by his students both here and in Cuba. He works with adults and children (4years upwards) from beginners to professional performers with amatuer dancers and professionals and preparing young dancers for professional performance.

Before becoming a founder member of Danza Libre Company in Guantanamo in 1989. He worked for a number of years in the Cuban 'Movement of Amateur Artists' as choreographer and teacher of dance. He was a member of Danza Libre until 2001.
