Aciiieeeeeeeed!!!

Now I guess a lot of people are wondering what this is.  Acid house was another music movement born out of the summer of 88' and I was lucky enough to be a part of it.

The origins came from clubs in Ibiza such as pacha and amnesia and was picked up by British deejays such as Danny Rampling who bought the vibe back to his club shoom.

The music had a hypnotic quality with a thumping house beat, the backbone of which was a machine called a Roland tb303 which created a acidic type baseline effect and used to send clubs into a frenzy as the knobs were twiddled and modulated!

THE MACHINE OF CHOICE

Many other clubs were born out of this sound, one in particular was spectrum, a club run on a Monday night that used to get 2000 punters queuing round the block to get in- which is amazing considering Monday is regarded the worst day for clubs!  I can't put into words how life changing this club was, truly an incredible experience.  It had 2 floors ,the first playing acid house and the top floor playing chillout music and Balearic beats from Ibiza.

Originally an experimental offshoot of Chicago House music (Phuture's 1986 Acid Trax was one influential example), acid house came to denote a sensibility that radically altered club culture worldwide. After the Ecstacy-fuelled summer of 1987 on the Spanish holiday island of Ibiza, several influential British DJs used acid house as a jumping-off point for a new eclecticism. The status-conscious dress codes of '80s clubbing dissolved in all-night raves, where the fashion statement consisted of baggy jeans and hooded tops with garishly blithe logos, and faceless homemade recordings topped the charts with little radio play or media attention. (Some critics anointed acid the "new punk," pointing to its egalitarian, antifashion, experimental, anti-star elements; others called it mindless and apolitical.)

I have included some music examples for you to listen to and as you will hear without acid house there would be no dance music today.fact.If you would like to try out a virtual 303 machine check out the links page and click on rebirth 338.
