Animated gifs

 

As a newcomer to the world of computer animation, I've been a bit daunted about the variety of software on offer. Even within the area of gif animation, there are so many packages to chose from. If you're already using Adobe Photoshop, then the Image Ready part of that program can be used; likewise with Jasc Paint Shop Pro, which comes bundled with Animation Pro; but the one I've used for all the animations here is Ulead Gif Animator, in conjunction with Photoshop for making all the frames.

I suppose that the biggest advantage of gifs over any other kind of online animation is that they will run on any system, since the gif file is the original internet graphic standard. No plug-ins necessary. Just any old browser and some patience. Although some of the gifs on this site have up to 100 frames, hopefully they shouldn't require too much patience to view. With the gif's versatile capacity to still look good with very few colours, not too many of these files are much over 50k.
