THE HERTFORD ART SOCIETY
WINTER PROGRAMME  2008/09

Visitors are very welcome at non-painting evenings (asterisked); charge: £2


Meetings are at the Cowbridge Halls, Cowbridge, Hertford on Tuesday evenings, 7.30 - 9.30 p.m.
New members joining from September pay a reduced subscription for that year
On practical evenings bring an easel or lean your board/pad on a table or chair.
Critiques: One recent work may be brought by members only.
Please help with the putting out/clearing up of chairs, making coffee, sweeping up at the end of session etc.  Please talk to the speakers, visitors and new members.

Alan Burgess, landscape painter

*September 23rd  Talk
Bruce Ronaldson, art lecturer and painter,  will talk about
'Space, Illusion & Reality'

September 30th    Life drawing/painting With tuition from
Tony Price, Head of Art, Chancellor's School


October 7th Life drawing/painting Continuation of the previous week's session

*October 14th Members' evening Critique by
James Willis, artist and art lecturer

*October 21st  Talk - an evening with
Bill Dean
Bill Dean, semi-professional artist & fellow struggler (his words)
will describe how he sets about the process of painting & the art
of creating paintings that sell

October 28th  Workshop - Portrait
Drawing (of model)
Keith Morton, professional painter and tutor, will start with
a 20 minute talk; then offer guidance to members as they draw

November 1st - 2nd Members' Show - Millbridge Rooms (handing-in 31st Oct)

November 4th Clothed Model Drawing or Painting the
Mayor of Hertford - Kim Darby

Angela Godfrey will talk about her life as a professional sculptor

*November 25th Demonstration
Roger Dellar, professional figurative artist,  will give a demonstration in oils, entitled 'People in pictures'

December 2nd Clothed model With tuition by Mike Goring, lecturer and artist

December 9th Still Life Drawing/painting from still life arrangements

December 16th Christmas Party Bring a piece of work from any working evening in 2008;
the prize - free membership for the next year.

Clare Gittings, Education Officr at the National Portrait Gallery, will
give an illustrated talk on the painting of groups of people in previous centuries; and discuss the BP portrait awards of 2004 & 2005

January 27th Workshop
John Chalkley, professional artist & illustrator,  will lead a workshop, creating abstract pictures
