Maurice Cope Classical Guitar and Lute

By R Webb

Maurice Cope was once described as a 'poet using the string as his pen' Whenever and wherever he plays his audiences are always drawn to the warmth, beautiful sound and sense of proportion in his playing.

He is noted for his skill in transcribing, arranging and performing music from the Renaissance and Baroque on the classical guitar. His interpretations of music from this period explore the guitar’s wonderful shades of dynamic expression, subtle timbre and strength of sound. His performances reveal a beautiful transcendent melancholy, a mood in which the guitar is much in sympathy with its many predecessors, including the lute and the baroque guitar.

His playing has been heard in many Countries where his concerts have been well received. To date he has released thirteen recordings, details of these, plus sample tracks can be found here on this site.

Maurice studied the classical guitar and musical composition at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama London under Antonio Albanes and later with Hector Quine. His composition studies were completed under Professor Adrian Thorne.
