Reviews of The Last Day

The strength of a theme in this story -survival - is tested by its ability to describe and inscribe itself in language, and in the obsessive forms and rhythms this language finds itself voiced in. It is, more than anything, the sense of inevitable loss which provides the occasion this thoughtful work; they enact and continue to re-enact an insoluble conflict between the idea that in language there is no difference among past, present, literature and life, and the disturbing losses resulting from too fervent a belief in that fact. The result is a post-modern lyricism as daring and frightening as it is consoling.

I enjoyed reading this well written story. I liked the way the descriptions of the people and places allowed the reader to be able to imagine the people and the scenes, much like watching a movie. I liked the characters, they were nice people. I followed them through this story wanting to spend more time with them but they were ethereal so we had to go our seperate ways. I look forward to further work from this author.

I read "The Last Day", and found it a delightful story. partially because of its' English style. As an American, I find that refreshing. I was pulled along into the story, until at the end I wondered if it was really going to be his "last day", or did the main character decide to keep on living because of his new friend? That is assuming he had decided to commit suicide that day! Thank you for the thought provoking story!
