Brrr, excellent stormy weather descriptions in this story, I did start to feel quite cold in places! In some ways mirroring real life as events like this have been reported, tragically. Courageous, sad and stunning all in one. I liked it very much. Sez The prose is quite old-fashioned in a way, until the wireless was mentioned and the sub surfaced I thought we were in the 19th century perhaps. But that gives us a clearer picture of the life Sarah has had. She has probably never been to school, only learning what she knows from books, and the rest of her time spent on the trawler. There is no location mentioned but I imagined it to be in Scotland. I read this piece 3 times and it got better each time. I was glad to see the funny poetry by Ed Rackstraw though, as both of the stories seem to deal with death and the things that drive us. I look forward to seeing more of Ed's work. Lyn Hales |
