Daydream

by Carrie White

The vision is pure,
Of an exquisite place,
The air is cool and still.
She goes there at times,
Safe in her mind,
Away from all blame.
Perception is dulled,
Freedom greets her,
The senses of peace
Are now complete.

Darkness settles
With no warning,
Takes control.
For a second she stops,
Has she woken?
Or, daydreaming, still?
She wants to fight it,
But cannot win.
It's with her always,
Locking her in.

Now she awakes,
Realisation dawns.
Of the pain and hurt,
She inflicted.
Longing for that time
To be back in the place
