It's a Cats Life

Meeow, meeow, hello everybody, it's me Jasper. I am seven years old and I am a very handsome tabby cat.

I can say handsome with all due honesty, because my humans keep telling me just how beautiful I am and I think that is a bit much, seeing as I am so masculine, but of course I put up with it to please them because their feelings are so easily hurt if I don't respond in the right way to all their fussing. I have led an interesting life and I think it is time I shared some of my moments with you, so I will start at the beginning.

The first day I was brought to my home, I knew I was on to a very good thing. I had come from a litter of four, two sisters and one brother. My mother was very good to me and also my mothers humans were good but the fuss from the two humans I have now is just beyond. They cuddled me and kissed me, kept telling me I was wonderful , let me sleep on their laps or on the sofa or armchair and they also provided me with a lovely comfortable bed of my own with a soft warm cover that was just for me.

At first they took me wherever they went, it was good fun riding on the back shelf of the car and great when they let me out and I could explore around the ground.
The first time I noticed how strange they were and how easily offended they could get was one day when we had gone out in the car into the countryside. I had dutifully followed them around everywhere and let them feed me and fuss me and, feeling jolly pleased with myself, I decided to take a quick explore around the place on my own. Well, I could walk faster than them.

I saw this very nice tree and decided that it would be fun to see how high I could climb at my very first attempt, so, up I went and almost reached the top. I was very proud of my achivement and I called to the humans to let them know how clever I was.

My goodness me, you would think I had done something wrong. Their faces were a picture, instead of being pleased they were upset, kept saying 'Come down Jasper, there's a good boy!' and making silly kissy kissy noises with their lips and throwing up their hands in despair.
I walked out to the end of a branch to show them how adept I could be. I was meeowing to them all the time to tell them what I was doing but did that please them, no, not at all, they went even more crazy.
Do you know, it really put me off, I suddenly didn't feel too good about being up the tree at all. The wind was blowing the branch and I realised I had climbed very near the top and I was only eight weeks old and I thought it would be rather nice if the lady human would just come up and give me a warm cuddle and perhaps she could carry me down.

Did she do that? Not likely, the more I cried to her to come and get me the more upset she got, but she didn't even start to climb the tree, silly woman, no, didn't even try, just stood there calling to me from below.
The time went on by and it was obvious that nobody was coming up for me and I was fed up by then so I did what I thought was the only sensible thing. I jumped down.........whew! the wind whistled through my ears and I hit the ground with a thump which shook every bone in my little body, then what do you think....yes lady human picked me up cuddled and kissed me made a fuss and said how silly I was to jump like that and that I could have broken my little legs, on and on, she went.

Mind I liked the attention but honestly if only she had the sense to do what I'd asked and climb up the tree to get me then I wouldn't have had to jump would I?

Well, I am a bit tired now, so I am going to curl up for a sleep. Perhaps I'll tell you another story about my life some other time. Purrr Purrr.

The End
