22/11/09:- Bev Price Memorial Team Championship

Edgewood JC Judokas, Jai Raison & Oliver Bramley teamed up with Ashton Butterfield from Ryecroft JC to form an inexperienced Nottingham Boys Lightweight Team for the Bev Price Memorial Team Championships in Walsall on Sunday 22nd November.  They put in a great performance to achieve a well deserved bronze medal.
With 15 teams entered into the Boys Lightweight event. The teams were split into 4 pools, with Nottingham being drawn in pool 4, against  teams from "Pyrford 1" and "Wirral 1".

Nottingham 3-0 Pryford 1  Jai got the team of to a flying start winning by "Ippon" against Patrick Barnes. Oliver kept up the good start also victorious by "Ippon" against Will Brown. Ashton rounded of a comfortable victory winning his contest against Oliver Platt with an "Ippon".

Nottingham 2-1 Wirral 1   Jai again produced the goods, winning his contest by "Ippon" against Ross Smith. Oliver found the going tough in his contest narrowly losing to David Rankin. That left Ashton needing to win his contest for Nottingham to finish top of their pool. He did in style with an "Ippon" score against Michael Fitzsimmons.

Nottingham 2-1 Pryford 2   In the quarter-final match, Jai started well against Kieran Davidson, scoring "Yuko" before getting caught for "Ippon". Oliver squared the contest after pinning David Cavanagh for "Ippon". This again left Ashton needing a win for the team to get into the semi-finals. An O-Uchi-Gari "Ippon" against Ben Ridler saw them through.

Nottingham 0-3 Pinewood A   In the semi-final match they came up against the favourites for the title. Jai again started well, but was thrown for "Ippon" by Christian Tapper. Oliver was held down for "Ippon" by Tommy Ryan and Ashton was thrown for "Ippon" by Marcus Trafford.

Nottingham 2-1 Erdington   Having to win to secure a bronze medal, it looked good when Erdington came onto the mat with only 2 players. This left Ashton with a bye after Callum Headland's withdrawal. This left either Jai or Oliver to win. Jai again started well but was caught for "Ippon" by Daniel Hemming. Oliver then produced his favourite O-Goshi for "Ippon" against Mark Farrell.
