Notes on using a single sound card

Ed FM was written before Microsoft's Direct-X drivers allowed applications to open a sound card as many times as it wished. Hence, the only way to play two audio files at the same time was to have two cards.

This is now not the case, and as a result Ed FM can be used successfully with just a single sound card and the relevant drivers. However, there are a couple of drawbacks, the main one being that the volume of each player cannot be controlled individually. As a result, segues can sometimes sound wrong, especially if the "start next" point of a track is set too early. Not withstanding that, you need to do the following to make Ed FM work with a single sound card:

  1. Run the Setup application.
  2. Click the "Preferences" button.
  3. Un-check Fade on segues.
  4. Un-check Fade on switches.
  5. Press OK.
  6. Press the "Quit" button.
