Ed FM examples
Here you can download audio clips of Ed FM performing some of it's automated
features. The files are stored in the MP3 format, so you'll need a player
like Winamp or something similiar to
hear them.
Segue
When one track reaches the end, the next one starts. The first track is faded
over a configurable time. It's actually slightly more complicated; if you
imagine the "Record-Jingle-Record" scenario, there's a possibility that the
if the jingle is quite short, the first record wont have finished by the time
the jingle has, meaning that the playout line won't be free. Ed FM will
detect this situation and fade out the record quicker than usual to make sure
the player is ready by the time the jingle finishes.
Sweeper
There are 2 main types of sweeper as far as Ed FM is concerned. The first is
where the sweeper itself is longer than the intro of the record it is to be
played over. The sweeper is started at the end of the first record, and the
second record is started at the right time so that the sweeper will end just
before the vocals start. This is also extremely useful for pre-recorded
links. Crashing the vocals is a thing of the past! Like the segue, Ed FM
will detect any problems that could arise from only having 2 playout lines,
and will prematurely fade the first record if necessary.
The second type is where the sweeper is shorter than the intro of the second
record. The two records are segued as in the first example, and the sweeper
is started during the intro of the second record, so that the sweeper will end
just before the vocals start. Once again, player collisions are detected and
eliminated.
Tag
The tag is not really an automated feature. It is designed to be used with
beds that have a tag, a good example of this is a travel bed, since the actual
length of the bulletin varies. When the tag is started, the bed is faded
very quickly, giving a smooth transition. Ed FM makes sure the tag has
started before fading the bed, making sure there are no gaps. The example
here also performs a segue into the next record.
