28th Feb 2008 - Ian Wilson

As you are all aware Big Ian Wilson has been with us at Arthurlie since he left Polok FC. We had offered him training facilities and in return he would help us out until the end of the season and we would look at things in the summer. Ian played several games for us, but due to a promotion at work and the increased commitment that were placed on him, he felt he could not commit the level of training and fitness he felt he needed to get back to the high standards he had set while playing at Pollok. So it was with some regret and sadness that he informed us he wished to retire from this level of football to concentrate on his career. In his short spell at Dunterlie he made a real impact and he will be missed, his parting gift was the super penalty save that helped us to three points at Brig O'Lea and may turn out to be a pivitol moment in our season.

All at Arthurlie FC would like to wish Ian all the best in the future.

2nd Feb 2008

Following the injury to John Johnston I have received the following message from Kilsyth player Gary Meechan

Hi My Name is Gary Meechan(Kilsyth player). I was the player involved in the tackle which unfortunately caused a serious injury to John. I would just like to get in touch with John and everyone at Arthurlie and wish him all the best and a speedy recovery. I would also like to state that there was never any intention of injuring a fellow player when making that tackle, i feel it was a 50-50 tackle which the ball was there to be won. Obviously the referee felt otherwise and sent me off, which by the way is irrelevant. All i am concerned about is Johns Welfare and the allegation that i went into that challenge to cause harm, which i categorically deny. . I have the full support of my teamates and manager who have assured me that in no way was it or did it look malicious. If possible, i hope this email can be posted on arthulie forums and of course John and his teamates. I have already tried phoning the Arthurlie match secretary but with no success. I will try again in the morning as to hear of Johns progress. Thanks. Gary Meechan

thanks for this message Gary and all the best for the rest of the season

John Johnston has been released from hospital with the news that he has not broken anything and also has no ligament damage, hopefully we will see him back in action soon.
