Arthurlie 3 Bo'ness 2 Scottish cup semi final 1981, Brockville (att 12,000) Arthurlie went into this match after a tough cup run that had seen them dispatch top sides like Ballieston, Blantyre vics and Benburb. They went behind to a Grant Peacock goal on 24 minutes and were unable to break down the Bo'ness side who kept this lead till half time. The second half was only 1 minute old when Arthurlie inside left Jackie Heaney headed home from a an Archie Lochrie corner, 46mins 1-1. After looking the more likely the 'lie suffered a cruel blow when Ian Miller of Bo'ness took a corner, which curled at the last second to slip past defender Isaac Graham at the near post, 57 mins 2-1 Bo'ness. A very determined Arthurlie then went all out for the equaliser, which duly arrived a mere three minutes later. Heaney picked the ball up in midfield and passed to Grant McIntosh who chipped the stranded Crooks in the Bo'ness goal, 60 mins 2-2. Then with only nine minutes of this pulsatating cup tie remaining Archie Lochrie ran on to a pass from substitute Henderson, waltzed past two Bo'ness defenders and stroked the ball past Crooks for a memorable goal. The huge support that had came through from Barrhead went crazy as they realised the 'lie were on their way to the final at Hampden. I was only 13 when I went through to watch the semi final that night and ended up hooked on the 'lie....Ed McDonald
Arthurlie V Pollok League cup quarter final replay 1995, Dunterlie Park Submitted by Robert Anderson, ex Arthurlie and Pollok, now at Neilston
The replay at Dunterlie was a classic. Pollok took the lead early on, Arthurlie replied to go 2-1 up when Pollok equalized late to force the tie into extra time. We went 3-2 up and held on against six man forward line until the last kick of the ball when Pollok equalized again. The game should have gone into penalty kicks but the ref felt it was becoming too dark so ordered another replay. Since the game hadn't reached it's natural conclusion the tie was deemed abandoned therefore had to be played at Dunterlie again a few days later. (Bank holiday Monday, big crowd). I can't recall the scorers although I think wee Grady scored a couple. Several tired legs produced another cracker with Pollok taking the lead again, this time mid way through the second half. Despite piling on the pressure Arthurlie survived a couple of scares before Robert Anderson stepped up with five minutes left to nod home the equalizer. This supercharged Arthurlie and with two minutes left yer man strode on to a corner kick to bullet a header home from the edge of the box. Thank you and goodnight!!! I wonder why you remember this game Robert?? Roy of the rovers stuff!! If anybody has any matches they want
to see on this page, drop me a line and I'll do my best to include them
They don't have to involve Arthurlie |
