MY PATCH

Hi! I'm Eddie, author of BVAA Web site and this is my little plot of land at the Burn Valley Allotments. Up until the Autumn of 2003 I was tenant of a plot on Hartlepool's Briafield Allotments site. After a long battle with Hartlepool Council all tenants were evicted from the Briarfields site to allow the land to be developed for "executive" housing. I now share this plot at the Burn Valley Allotments with my neighbours Sheila and John.

I took over the patch in the spring of 2004, a little bit late in the season, but I managed to get it cleared and dug over in time for the sewing\planting of some crops. By mid October most of the crops had been harvested and I felt that year one has been a reasonably successful year. I kept a photographic record of year one and have included some of the images on this page.

The Greenhouse, a little the worse for ware, was built, so I am led to believe, sometime in the 'forties; all dowel and joints, not a nail in sight; it is still capable of helping us produce some excellent crops.
Late July - The beans are doing well and have added a little colour to the plot. The peas are about ready to pick and I will soon be lifting a couple of leeks for the pot.
The Marrow - Picked most of the courgette's earlier in the season, couldn't resist letting a couple grow on.
Well we are now in the Spring of 2005 and I will soon need to be updating these pages (must dig the camera out).
