Tashi Gepel Monastery - photo by Maria Antonia Sironi Tashi Gepel Monastery, in Shigatse area. During the last few years the monastery has received the help of Eco Himal. During our last visit we were happy to find that the number of the monks had increased. The Buddhist philosophy school to train young monks is still running. They asked us for some help to fit a new classroom to allow new students to attend the course. We also are helping some young monks with their basic education.

Rongbuk Monastery - photo by Carlo Meazza Rongbuk Monastery
The restoration of the monastery was supported by Eco Himal Austria some years ago, and now 30 monks and nuns live there. During our last visit they told us that they did not have, at the moment, any needs. However they presented an important request for the development of the religious life of the monastery and for the believers living in the valley. They have asked us to support the building of a big statue of Padmasambava, the great saint of the Tibetan Buddhism to whom the monastery is dedicated. They have already built the room in which to locate the statue and where the worship rituals take place.

Chambaling Monastery - photo by Patrizia Broggi Chambaling Monastery (Lhoka prefecture)
In the 15th century Chambaling monastery was a big monastic centre that had more than 6000 monks. Now only a few monks are living there, but they are restoring the building, and requested help to refurbish part of the buildings they were restoring (eg. the common kitchen) and especially the old main wall (graved prayer stones).
