The club's exact date of foundation is unknown but the first
recorded success came in 1918-19, when just two points were dropped
in winning the Peterborough League.
The club appears to have gone backwards from that, spending
many years in very junior football in the Stamford and District,
and Bourne and District Leagues. Championships were few and far
between, although the club did win the final Stamford League prior
to the outbreak of war.
The club then achieved little of note until stepping up to the
Peterborough League again, and in 1962 the 2nd Division was won
with 38 points from a possible 46. However, the next item of silverware
was a long time coming; it was in 1976 before the Division One
title came to Lincoln Road. 56 points from 34 matches, coupled
with the impressive facilities on offer at Lincoln Road, saw the
club step up to the Premier Division.
The club quickly adjusted to the higher level, usually finishing
near the top although never taking the title. Entry to the F.A.
Vase was obtained in the late 70's and, with the excellent ground
at Lincoln Road, the decision was taken to join the UCL in 1984.
After finishing 4th in our first season, Stones enjoyed a fine
Knockout Cup run in 1985-86, losing to Stamford in the semi-final,
after ousting mighty Irthlingborough Diamonds in the previous
round. In 1988 Stones made it to the Premier Division, finishing
Division One runner-up to Timken Duston, thanks to a last day
home win over Higham Town.
Floodlights were installed in 1990, with Aston Villa providing
the opposition on a memorable night for the club. We were now
competing in the F.A. Cup, and a famous victory over Bishops Stortford
was achieved in 1991. We won our first Senior honours in 1993,
beating neighbours Bourne Town to win the Lincolnshire Senior
Cup 'A'. Since getting into the Premier Division the Stones have
never finished higher than sixth position and the club's next
ambition is to better that, as soon as possible. The name was
changed to Blackstones F.C. in the summer of 1998.
Season 2002-03 proved to be memorable both on and off the field.
The Social Club finally managed to secure the freehold of Lincoln
Road and both sides reached the Finals of their respective League
Knockout Cups. The Reserves lost to S & L 3-2 after extra-time
but the First Team produced a stunning performance to defeat highly
fancied Buckingham Town 4-0 at Northampton Spencer to secure their
first major Trophy for ten years.
Season 2003-04 saw the 1st Team win the Lincs Senior Cup 'A'
once more and the Reserves won the League Knockout Cup for the
third time.
