Daventry missed the chance to go top of the Premier Division after Stones' second half fightback earned a share of the spoils.

The visitors looked sharp from the off and took a fifth minute lead when Tom Berwick latched onto a through ball and lobbed home keeper Ian Flavell.

Stones equalised after ten minutes with a well worked goal. Steffan Dancy's flick sent Richard Thompson away on the left and he pulled the ball back for Matty Doyle to fire past visiting keeper Joe Mellings.

John Cullen volleyed wide for the visitors from a Ryan Byrne corner while at the other end Jon Stead's cross shot was narrowly wide.

Daventry went back in front after 29 minutes with Josh O'Grady curling the ball home from the edge of the box.

The visitors extended their advantage after 43 minutes with Richard Wesley and Tommy Waldock combing to find playmaker Byrne who neatly sidestepped a defender before shooting hard and low into the corner.

Flavell denied Berwick as the interval approached after the Town striker turned marker Richard Jones.

Stones looked a determined side on resumption and reduced the arrears in the first minute of the second half, Thompson holding off a defender to tee up Stead to fire into the top corner.

Byrne fired over from the edge of the box as Daventry replied but Stones were posing a threat from corners. Carl Bird came forward to head goalward from an Elton Holmes flag kick only to find Mellings well placed to save, but the visiting keeper had no chance after 55 minutes when Jones rose highest to head in from a Kevin Ainslie corner.

 

 

Doyle missed a great chance to give Blackstones the lead after getting on the end of a long throw from Ainslie, while at the other end the well placed Waldock could only make minimal contact with a header in front of a gaping goal.

Right at the death Berwick almost won the contest for Daventry, working hard to win possession only for his fierce shot to narrowly clear the target.
