Tournament
Sunday
August 30th the club in partnership with Barclays bank put on a 5 aside football
bonanza fun day with all proceeds going to football coach John Betteridge's
chosen charity (City Hospital Melanoma charity).
In
the morning saw the Linby girls put on an interclub tournament with the winners
and runners up pictured below.

In
the afternoon 2 competitions were played, the ladies tournament won by Linby
Ladies and the men's tournament won by Hickling Hasbeens.

Though
the game was football, what brought everyone together was John Betteridge who
has been diagnosed with cancer and both Linby and Barclays wanted to show there
support and together raised an amazing £884.67 on the day with separate
donations of £50 and £150 making in total £1084.67. Thank you to everyone who
turned up on the day and for your generous support,. It was decided that this
would be an annual event to take place on bank holiday Sunday.
Linby girls do good as Chloe leads the way
Local
girl Chloe Richards 16 and from the Holgate school – has a
passion for sport and wants to become PE teacher. Chloe was selected to
attend the FA’s young leadership camp at the Warwick University.
Chloe, who plays for Linby
Ladies FC, is very clear about what she wants from the camp “I want to become
a stronger leader with more confidence. I feel this could be the thing I lack
when it comes to leading. I like to voice my opinions and make myself heard, but
sometimes I don't feel confident around new people. The camp will help me
gain confidence and able me to meet new people putting my leadership skills into
practice.”
Craig Lee, the Notts FA's Football
Development Officer, commented: “The week combined some formal workshops
designed to educate the young leaders in different disciplines within football - for
example goalkeeping, sport science etc, and also more informal workshops that
are designed as team building and fun-based activities that will encourage the
young leaders to develop their own core skills such as team work, communication
etc. it is a fantastic opportunity for Chloe, and one that I’m sure she will
cherish.”
Andrew
Eastwood, Linby Ladies chairman, commented “ We at Linby are very proud of
Chloe’s achievements she has been at the club for 4 years and over that time
she has developed into a good player and is well liked and respected by her
piers, We like to encourage the girls within the club to go onto leadership and
coaching courses, just last month we have had 2 sixteen year old girls
take there level 1 coaching badges, Lauren Jubb who is now coaching at her local
school and Laura Muir who is coaching at the clubs Saturday morning soccer
school, both girls will make excellent coaches.
Linby
Saturday morning soccer school

The
club launched there soccer school on Titchfield Park for girls aged 5 - 11years.
The sessions were based around the FA 4 corner and LTPD model. The emphasis was
on fun and enjoyment while learning the basic footballing skills. The sessions
were ran by club coaches, Laura Muir, Ray Thompson, Andrew and Carol Eastwood.
The girls have now been entered into the relevant club teams.
12th Presentation
Evening (27th June).
Linby
Colliery Welfare Ladies Football Club held their 12th annual
presentation evening to a sell out crowd of 350 guests at the Festival Hall in
Kirkby-in-Ashfield. The club looked back and celebrated on yet another
successful season, which is even more remarkable as the club do not hold any
trials and is not selective as they work closely to there ethos of providing any
player of any age or ability with the opportunity to play football. The club
celebrated the under 11’s becoming league Champions along with FA shield
runners up, the under 13’s league champions and league cup runners up. The
Under 14’s celebrated by winning the FA Shield and going onto represent
Nottinghamshire in the Tesco u14s cup, the clubs senior side also celebrated
after a tough season with the East Midlands Womens League fair play winners. The
other 6 Linby teams finished no lower than 3rd in there respective
leagues.. Over 200 trophies were presented by special guest, Nottingham Forest
and England Under 23s player Lauren Cresswell, each player received an award as
well as thanking and applauding the many volunteers who work hard to make the
club what it is to day. The clubs top goal scorer was awarded

Club Chairman Andrew
Eastwood commented that success is not just measured by the silverware alone but
by the participation, and by running 9 teams at all age groups this season and
not been selective and allowing and encouraging those who want to play, I think
everyone must agree that the success this season has just been remarkable. The
club this season have seen players take part in a promotional dvd for the FA/Mcdonalds
which was shown at the community shield last season between Man utd and
Portsmouth, we have done sponsored walks, swims and collecting money on the
rotary clubs Santa’s sleigh. The club have finally launched there Saturday
morning soccer school at Titchfield park 10:30 – 12pm for girls aged 5 – 11
years. Andrew
thanked the volunteers, club committee, managers, coaches and backroom staff for
there dedication and hard work, thanks to the parents for their encouragement
and support by applauding good play throughout the season and last but not least
the girls who have worked hard in training and have played some great football
while conducting themselves in a sporting and fair manner by embracing the
FA’s respect campaign.
Rolls

Linby
U11/12s
The
Future Looks Bright!
A
mixture of Under 12’s, Under 11’s and newcomers pulled together to help
Linby produce an amazing performance to win their league and reach the semi
finals of the Rolls Royce 5aside tournament.
In the league qualifying group
Linby played 5 games, conceded zero goals and scored 3.
It was a fantastic overall
performance with all girls giving 100% and showing hard work determination, and
excellent football.
Although they did not win their
semi final I really believe this was the performance of the day and they
deserved a medal for their achievement.
Abigail
Hart showed courage in goal and kept 4 clean sheets
Molly
Slater showed her class and durability playing in 3 different positions
Shaynala
Richardson keeps getting better and would not be beaten in the tackle
Daisy
Dignum played with a smile on her face and did not stop running
Hannah
Elson seemed to get better and more determined with every game
Caitlan
Townsend covered every blade of glass and was my player of the day
Jenna
Liffe showed some fancy footwork and 2 excellent goals
Abbie
Truman played a true captains role - is there a more determined player at Linby?
Special
thanks and congratulations to the under 11’s for helping out the under 12s
today.

Linby
Under 14’s
After
a few weeks without playing Linby Under 14’s chose to play in their rivals
tournament and whilst somehow getting to the final despite struggling to score
much they at least finished far higher than their rivals Rolls who didn’t even
make the knockout stages after finishing bottom of the group.
All the girls performed and
committed themselves well and the defensive duo of Ellie Marriott and Sophie
Beldham were so impressive they played every minute of every game and perhaps
the result in the final showed how tired they were despite their brilliant
efforts.
The midfielders of Lauren
Betteridge, Paige Rogers and Sammy Barlow produced good work between them but
the weeks without playing showed in some of the passing. Up front Eleanor
Brooks, Leah Collingwood and Katrina Bloomer stuck to their task but failed to
find the goals in the group stages. In goal Bec Collingwood worked hard despite
a sore foot and eventually had to concede and withdraw so good old Brooksy
stepped up to play in goal.
The semi final saw Pride Park get
off to a good start but Linby matched them with chances and then with 3 minutes
to go Linby went for do or die at a corner and committed everyone forward, the
ball broke for Pride Park to run in and score and look like they had the winner.
In the last minute Barlow stood strong despite being pushed and pulled and got
the goal following a great turn and shot. Extra time saw nip and tuck until
Linby cleared and Barlow played in Bloomer to rifle home the winner. Brooksy
earned herself player of the day as in the last minute she saved from a corner
and a point blank reaction save that she turned away to ensure Linby were in the
final.
The final was not really a close
affair against a strong Handsworth Girls side who took control early on and
never looked liked yielding as they marked up 3 goals in succession to beat
Linby to the winners trophy.
Scorers – Barlow, Bloomer.
Player of the Tournament –
Eleanor Brooks.
Linby
Under 15s
It
looked like a tough afternoons work for the Under 15's at the Rolls Royce
tournament which they had won for the last two years, as they arrived to find
that the 15's and 16's had been put together to form one grouping.
Immense credit then, that they
reached the semi's with two wins and five draws without conceding a goal!
Goal scores Abi Wetton and Serena Mason.
Another hard fought battle
against fellow under 15's Chesterfield saw Linby reach the final, where despite
a plucky performance, the girls lost out 2 0 to a strong and skilfull Long Eaton
side.
As they were about to head to
the presentation with their heads held high, they were informed that not only
were they runners-up, but had won the Under 15 tournament within the group, as
the highest placed under 15's!
Thoroughly deserved after a
long and tiring afternoon which resulted in Serena, Shannon and Rosie all
finishing with knocks which affected their performances in the latter stages,
and indeed kept Shannon out of the final.
A
special mention also for The Club, whose efforts to secure specialist goalkeeper
coaching appear to be paying off, with Keeper Eleni Gospel clearly showing the
benefits with some confident handling particularly during the early group
matches.
Radcliffe
Tournament.
Linbys
under 10s earned themselves a place in the Final today by playing some fantastic
football with great skill and determination.
Linby
2 v Retford Utd 1
Linby
settled well into the first game with great passing from all the players, but
unfortunately within the first few minutes lack of communication cost Linby a
goal that was scored straight from a Redford corner. Linby fought back and their
first goal came from Chloe Peat’s terrific long throw, which Rae Giffiths got
on the end of to slot coolly into the net. The second was score by Chloe herself
with a powerful shot from the half way line.
Linby
2 v Gedling SB 0
Linby
again got stuck in and with some great defending from Caitlin Townsend and Jamie
Clifford that saw Gedling play in their own half for most of the match.
Linby’s first goal came from Chloe Cope who slotted home a great goal. The
second was a great shot by Daisy Dignum that she blasted into the back of the
net.
Linby
0 v Radcliffe Olympic 1
A
much faster game against a strong side, but Linby stood strong and had some
great chances; unfortunately they could only find the post, crossbar and side
netting on several occasions. Radcliffe managed to score the only goal to
separate two strong sides.
Linby
3 v Vernon FC 1
Linby
met Vernon for the last match in their league place. Linby put on a great
display of football with again all players standing strong and focused. All
three goals came from Chloe Peats long throw, first in which the keeper could
only fumble into the back of the net, second and third saw Rae blast into the
net with great technique.
Semi-Final Linby 2 v Vernon FC 0
Linby
again met Vernon in the semi’s. Again standing their ground from the off. The
first goal came from a well taken corner from Chloe Peat that the keeper could
only help into the net. Second came from another long throw from Chloe, tapped
coolly into the net by Rae.
Final
Linby 1 v Radcliffe Olympics 2
Linby
met Radcliffe for the second time today and knew the final would be a tough
match between two very strong sides. Linby scored first after a great run from
the halfway line by Chloe Peat, leaving 2 players in her wake before shooting
home. Radcliffe fought back and managed to get two well taken goals that left
keeper Chloe Benniston with no chance.
A
fantastic display of football from all the girls today, our work rate improved
and all the team stood strong which earned us our place in the final.
Well done to Chloe Benniston, as always pulling off some great saves, Cailtlin
and Jamie for their great defensive work, Daisy and Chloe Cope for a tireless
effort in midfield and Chloe Peat and Rae for working together to score some
great goals.
Special
thanks to Ellie Batey who supported the team throughout the day.
Linby
Under 11s entered the Radcliffe U12’s
Tournament as part of their pre-season build up.With several players departing
in the summer and playing up an age group, it was always going to be an uphill
task. However the girls exceeded all expectations to reach the semi-finals,
before bowing out on penalties.
Match
One. Calverton B U12’s 1 - 1 Linby
Linby
suffered an early set back with an injury to Chloe Vernon, but her replacement
Sam made an immediate impact to send Courtney Csomer clear to rifle home the
opener. Despite dominating the game Linby were left to rue missed chances when
Calverton grabbed a fortunate equaliser.
Match
Two: Linby 0 - 0 Coalville U12’s
This
was a game dominated by two excellent defences, who gave little away.Abbie
Truman & Shay proved to be a solid combination, which their opponents were
seemingly unable to break down. Both sides seemed content with a draw, but Linby
needed a great save from Ashleigh Hind late in the match to share the spoils.
Match
Three: Linby 4 - 0 Netherfield Blue U11,s.
Against
a side in their own age group, Linby dominated proceedings.Sam, Chloe Vernon,
Jody Blacknell & an own goal completed the rout.
Match
Four: Calverton A U12’s 1 - 0 Linby.
Linby
suffered their first defeat in controversial style.A long range effort from
Calverton was well saved by Ashleigh Hind, but despite having the ball clearly
under control, the referee allowed an on coming player to kick it out of her
hands and the goal to stand. Despite this early set
back Linby produced several great chances, but could not find that vital
equaliser.
Match
Five: Netherfield Gold U11,s 0 - 1 Linby
Against
old rivals, Linby grabbed a vital win. A tremendous
end to end game, saw Linby grab the points late on with a cool finish by
Courtney Csomer.
Match
Six: Nottingham United U12,s 1 - 0 Linby
In
their penultimate game Linby faced the only side with a 100% record. The
Linby girls gave everything but a solitary strike on the break saw them fall
just short.
Match
Seven: Linby 3 - 1 Clifton FC U12,s
In
the final game both sides knew a win could send them through to the semi-finals.
Linby were in no mood to let the opportunity slip and in a
devastating first tore Clifton apart. The corner stone
of the victory was the combination play between Courtney Csomer & Jodie. With
Courtney (2) & Jodie (1) the scorers as Linby raced into a three nil lead.
Clifton stole a late consolation but were full of praise for
their younger opponents at the final whistle.
Semi-final
: Calverton A U12,s 0 - 0 Linby
An
end to end semi-final saw Linby take the early initiative but they were denied
by some last ditch defending. In the second period Linby were forced back down
the slope but great defending by Abbie Truman & Molly Slater kept Calverton
at bay. The stalemate could not be broken in ET, but
Linby needed a great save from Ashleigh Hind.
Unfortunately
the strength of the older girls told from the spot, but Linby did themselves
proud, with every girl playing her part in the tournament.
Steel
City
Tournament
Linby’s
under 16’s in their second tournament
this season again made it to the finals of the Steel City tournament in
Sheffield. Linby first game was against
there hosts Steel City and played out a 0-0 draw. The second game against
Winterton Rangers (Scunthorpe) Linby took the lead and seemed to have the game
wrapped up when a clearance rebounded off a player into the back of the Linby
net for a 1-1 draw. Linbys remaining league games against Steel City B,
Mexborough and Stocksbridge were 0-0 draws despite Linby commanding and having
all the play.
Linby
were drawn against Steel City B in the semi-finals, Steel City started the
better team as keeper Nicole Shortland had to pull off a reaction save to keep
her team in with a fight. Linby soon took the game by the scruff of the neck and
Rachael Wakefields rocket shot could not be held by the keeper and the ball
rolled over the line only for the keeper to quickly drag the ball back, the
referee allowed the goal to much disgruntlement from the opposition. It
needn’t have mattered as Linby went onto score a second goal to secure there
second final in so many tournaments.
The final was Linby v
Steel City A it looked like the hosts party was over when a superb strike from
Laura Muir hit the underside top netting and the ball bouncing back out, the
referee for some reason waved played on. The game continued with Linby creating
the better chances and looked the more likely to score, the full time whistle
went and extra time was played with neither team finding the back of the net.
The 2 teams had to be separated by a penalty shoot out, 6 penalties each could
not separate the teams and it went to sudden death. Linby yet again had what
looked like a certain goal disallowed as the ball hit the inside of the post but
was deemed by the referee not to have gone over the line. Steel City eventually
won the tournament when Linbys shot was saved by the keeper.
Linbys under 13s
yellow went all the way to the semi-finals only to loose out on a penalty
shoot-out
Linbys
seniors started well winning there first game 1-0 and then drawing the next 2
games only to loose there next game 1-0 against a strong Barnsley side. Linbys
final game was a 0-0 draw and narrowly missing out on the semi-final stage.

Game 1 v Lincoln Griffins:
The game started slowly, however it wasn’t long before the players got
in their stride and accustom to the smaller pitch, which then saw a few sighters
from Ellie & Courteney before the pressure told and the goals started to fly
in, with 5 for Courteney & 1 for Ellie. However the whole team played well,
with a good defensive display from Abbie & Molly and hard work / link up
play from Jena, Chloe & Lizzie, as all of the players were rotated. This was
all topped off with the Ashleigh in goal, who never really looked troubled and
didn’t have many quality shots to save.
Final Score:- Linby 6 v Lincoln 0
Game 2 v Leicester City:
Much stronger opposition, however all the players dug deep and worked
well together, even though we slightly lost our shape, which resulted in a
couple of minor errors of judgments and saw Leicester slot home two goals
without reply. Which basically meant that we needed to win our last League game
to take us through into the Semi Final as runners up.
Final Score:- Linby 0 v Leicester 2
Game 3 v Welton Sports & Social Girls:
With the pressure on, every player performed well and maintained their
shape better than the previous game, however even with majority of the
possession we just couldn’t find the way past the goalkeeper, who pulled off
some excellent saves from Lizzie, Ellie, Chloe & Courteney. Abbie &
Molly covered the back superbly and Ashleigh remained very assured in goal.
As the pressure continued, Courteney came to the rescue again and coolly
slotted home her 6th goal of the tournament, to give us the victory
we need to take us into the semi finals.
Final Score:- Linby 1 v Welton 0
Semi Final v Malet (Hull):-
A great physical contest, with some bruising tackles from the opposition,
however the players stuck to the game plan and gradually turned up the pressure,
from some good possession and eventually both Ellie and Courteney slotted home
the winning goals, to put us deservedly into the Final. Again a great display
from Abbie in defense who took numerous hits, but never gave in. Jena ran her
heart out and really commanded the midfield, with back up displays from Chloe
& Lizzie and a good controlled display from Molly in defense in the 2nd
half.
Final Score:- Linby 2 v Malet 0
FINAL v Southwell United:-
Even though this was the final the semi final seemed a tough challenge,
however it was hard to break down the opposition, but fantastic displays again
from Ellie & Courteney, who both scored the softest of goals, saw us
eventually run out WINNERS.
Final Score:- Linby 2 v Southwell
CHAMPIONS AGAIN !!!!.
Priory
Celtic
Tournament
Linby
under 13s Blue
Third
time lucky was the theme of today as Linby under 13’s blue triumphed in the
Plate trophy final today following 2 previous tournaments where they had been
runners up. A scorcher of a day meant the girls had to play in blazing sun but
thankfully blazed a trail to the final and won it 1 – 0.
All
the girls performed outstandingly well and with a few changes saw the
Collingwood twins join the squad and Leah committed herself in attack whilst Bec
pulled off some terrific saves including 3 in the first group game that ensured
Linby finished the game with a draw. The defensive trio of Ellie Marriott, Jade
Benniston and Kirsty Peat rotated and organised themselves well today and
restricted the goal tally against to only 2 goals. The most bizarre one being in
the third game when a comical Benniston fell over the ball and the opposition
stole in for an equaliser. Kirsty
Peat started the ball rolling with goals in the second game after combining well
with Paige Rogers and Lauren Betteridge and hitting a great shot at the keeper
that rebounded off her and went in. Katrina
Bloomer who has been absent with illness for a few weeks showed no signs of
lacking fitness as she pounced on a Charlotte Nolan cross and finished neatly.
Always a possibility of long range goals when playing six a side and Paige
Rogers made it 3 -0 with a cleverly well taken free kick from 20 yards. Game
three was looking a certainty after Nolan had cleverly beat her marker to run in
on goal but a late equaliser left it a draw. Linby had secured their semi final
place and so the loss in the last game was no real issue.
The
semi final was a tough game as Linby came up against the Lincoln City academy
side and faced none other than one of their former players Jade Sheppard. Jade
has improved so much that she also features for the England under 15’s. Her
skill on the ball showed but Linby appeared to have the edge especially as
Rogers hit one of her trademark curling corners that hit the keeper and went in
to give Linby a 1 – 0 win.
The
final was a close affair against a strong Sharley Park side that were quick out
of the blocks but Collingwood in goal ensured that they did not take an early
lead. This game was then dominated by Linby as the likes of Marriott and player
of the day Betteridge battled for everything to keep attacking. The winning goal
was a result of a Betteridge pass that Bloomer controlled brilliantly and
dribbled past 3 players to get it on her right foot and put it in the bottom
corner. A special thanks to striker Eleanor Brooks today who was due to be in
the squad but a managerial mix up left us with to many players and Eleanor
stepped aside but spent the day encouraging and supporting the girls.
Scorers
– Katrina Bloomer 2, Charlotte Nolan, Paige Rogers 2, Kirsty Peat. Player of
the day – Lauren Betteridge.
LINBY
UNDER 16’s
Linby’s
under 16’s stated there campaign with an impressive 3-0 win against
Southchurch, Linbys other league games were won 2-0 against Brixworth, Wollaton
Hall and the hosts Priory Celtic. A great start scoring 9 goals without reply
secured them with the top spot of their league. The competition went into
semi-finals and Linbys under 16s were drawn against Linbys under 15s so one way
or the other Linby were guaranteed a place in the final. The under 16s scored 2
quick goals but the under 15s made them work hard and reduced the lead it
continued in this vein throughout the game with Linbys under 16s securing there
place in the final with a 5 – 2 win.The final saw Linby come up against a team
that they have had many a close game with but on this occasion tired legs were
Linbys downfall as Radcliffe won the tournament 2- 0.Linbys goals: Rachael
Wakefield 4, Laura Muir 3, Rachael Henson 3, Nicole Shortland 1, Emma crump 1,
Rebekah Duckmanton 1, Lauren Jubb 1. Player

Marlborough
Tournament
Linby
entered 4 teams with 3 teams getting to the finals!
Under 11s
(winners)
The
under 11s cruised passed everything put in front of them today to win the
tournament in a comfortable un-defeated style.
Under
12s (Runners up)
The
under 12s sailed through to the semi-final stage and came up against a strong
Leicester City side. Linby a goal down at the break pulled back the equaliser
right from the off which resulted in a tense penalty shoot out, Leicester missed
a penalty and it came down to captain Amber Denny to put her penalty away of
which she did to secure there place in the final against Derby outfit Woodlands.
The final was a tense affair with neither team giving much away and yet again it
went down to the lottery of penalties. This time it was up to Linby to score to
stay in the tournament but under the pressure the shot was screwed wide for
Woodlands to collect the winner’s medals on this occcasion.
Under 13s (Runners
up)
This
week saw Linby Ladies under 13’s blue travel to Leicestershire and drive back
with the runners up trophy from the Marlborough Rovers Tournament.
A dominating display of passing football, goal scoring and goalkeeping
was not quite enough in the final which they narrowly lost 1 – 0. The Linby
players really showed their class and skill in their games with some stunning
passing moves that led to a torrent of goals and ensured yet again that they
finished top of their group and only conceding one goal.
The
group games got off to a great start as Sammy Barlow and Eleanor Brooks made
virtually identical runs to beat the keeper. The team never looked troubled as
Abbi Gale in defence made sure that when the opposition broke she did enough to
reduce any attempts on Lauren Betteridge’s goal. Lauren shared the
goalkeeper’s role with Brooks today and pulled off some great saves that
included one in the final where at full stretch she beat off a powerful shot and
earned perhaps the biggest round of applause all day from both sets of
supporters.
Commanding the midfield today were Sophie Beldham, as well as playing in defence
superbly well, and Paige Rogers and Elle Croucher. Croucher and Rogers seemed to
find their feet very quickly and created chance after chance with their clever
passing and movement.
The
second match was again a comfortable game but somehow ended in a draw after they
let a Barlow 1 -0 lead slip through a goal that came about after a lack of
communication with players. In their final group game the 1 -0 win came after
Rogers, who completely and I mean completely dominated the play finished off a
great free kick into the bottom corner.
Linby
really come alive in the knockout stages and some teams sense that they are in
for tough time. The quarter final saw Beldham and Gale strong at the back and
ensure Betteridge only touched the ball a few times and upfront the 4 winning
goals were dispatched evenly between Barlow and Croucher. All four goals
featured Rogers who at times was just too strong for the opposition and worked
tirelessly to earn herself the player of the day award.
Four goals
again were scored in the semi final shared equally this time by Barlow and
Brooks. Brooks second goal was a cracker as the first attempt was saved she
pounced to literally ‘smash’ the ball into the net.
So the final
came and went like the week before when despite tireless work from everyone,
great passing and shots, and an awesome save by Betteridge Linby could only end
up as runners up after conceding the only goal of the game. Scorers
Eleanor Brooks 3, Paige Rogers, Elle Croucher 2,
Sammy Barlow 6.

SAWTRY
TOURNAMENT
Linby
sent 2 teams (under 12s and 13s) to the Sawtry 5 aside football tournament with
both Linby teams getting to the finals!
Roy
Green Sawtry Sixes Tournament 13th June 2009
Under 13's Yellow competed at their correct age group of under 12's. Paul and
Lee could only take a squad of 8 players with 6 of the girls taking to the field
at any one time. The games were played over a 10 minute period with no half time
break. The Under 12's were divided into 2 leagues consisting of 8 teams in each
league with only the top 2 teams from each division going through to the
semi-finals. The duo decided to take Millie-Rae Vardy,Sarah Bill, Lauren Wilson,
Zoe Hopewell, Amber Denny (c), Courtney Evans, Jessica Wibberley and Sianna
Bennett.
Game
1 v's Whittlesey JFC
What a poor start to the days competition. The Linby girls began the game
attempting to re-adjust to the small pitch have played their first season at
eleven a side. The girls struggled to work any type of openings with the
opposition playing with 3 players constantly at the back. Midway through the
game Jessica had to be replaced through injury by Courtney who was making her
first appearance since returning from Forest Academy. As play was congested in
the middle of the pitch a shot out of the blue was hit by a Whittlesey player,
bounced in front of Sarah and found it's way into the Linby goal.
LOST 0-1
Game
2 v's Kettering Town Girls
The girls quickly made amends for their poor performance and raced into a one
nil lead thanks to an explosive goal from Sarah. Sarah had now changed positions
with Millie-Rae who remained in goal throughout the rest of the tournament.
Sarah received the ball on the half way line, showed good feet to beat her
marker, pushed the ball to her right and unleashed an unstoppable pile driver
that flashed into the roof of the net. The second goal came from good passing
between Jessica and Zoe before playing the ball up to the predatory Courtney.
Courtney composed herself before passing the ball passed the goalkeeper and into
the opposition goal, good to see her back in a Linby shirt and doing what she
does best.
WIN 2-0
Game
3 v's Coundon Court Black
This was a game of frustration for the girls. Throughout the day the girls came
up against teams that were happy to sit back and defend, hoping to catch Linby
on the break. This game was all played in the Coundon half with Millie-Rae not
having to make one save. A Combination of bad luck and good goalkeeping saw
Coundon earn a draw against a much superior Linby team
Draw 0-0
Game
4 v's South Cave FC
At the start of this game South Cave sat at the top of the league having earned
themselves 7 points to Linby's 4. Yet this game showed how brilliant the girls
can play and they scored possibly the best improvised goal that I have ever seen
a girl score. Courtney once again skinned her marker and drilled a cross in from
the left at knee height. Sianna appeared to have ran too far but managed to
raise her left leg and back heel the ball through the keepers legs and into the
net, alas Tevez. Amber began to pull all Linys strings ably assisted by Zoe,
Sarah and Courtney with Jessica and Lauren defending stubbornly when they were
introduced to the games. Linby's second was again scored after constant pressure
on the South Cave goal. Zoe hit a hard shot that could only be parried out into
the path of Sianna who blazed the ball into an unguarded net.
Win 2-0
Game
5 v's BSCFC Swallows
With a fantastic win in the previous game you would have expected Linby to go on
and trounce a team at the bottom of the table. Wrong. Linby appeared very
lethargic and lacked imagination to break down another very defensive team. This
was the last time Linby played at such a low standard. This was also the last
time Jessica played in this tournament due to an elbow injury that she picked up
ice skating the previous day which was aggravated during the first game. Having
sought medical attention at the first aid tent it was decided that Jessica
should rest the injury and play no further part, leaving the management with one
substitution for the last 4 games.
Draw 0-0
Game
6 v's Wouborn Lionesses
This was a must win game to give them a chance of qualifying for the
semi-finals. The girls played this game at a very high tempo. The movement and
passing from the girls was a pleasure to watch as all the girls worked hard for
each other. The goal came early in the game. Zoe received the ball from a throw
in on the right. fed the ball over to the left into the path of the on rushing
Coutney, who hit a powerful shot with her left peg, hard and low into the far
corner of the net. Again, this was another game that Milli-Rae had very little
to do yet her presence in goal appeared to fill her team mates with confidence
as they went on to play some very attractive football.
Win 1-0
Game
7 v's St Ives Rangers
St Ives sat top with 12 points and Linby second on 11 points. 3rd placed South
Cave were on 11 points (with a worse goal difference than Linby) played 4th
place Coundon Court on 9 points. Linby could not lose but if they drew they
needed South Cave and Coundon to draw. Yet again St Ives sat back and allowed
Linby to have possession yet refused to come out and attack the Linby goal. The
game ended in a goalless draw yet the news quickly came back that the other
teams drew giving Linby their place in the Semi-Finals.
draw 0-0
Semi-Final
v's Coundon Court Red
Coundon Court Red finished top of their league with a haul of 17 points. They
walked into the semi's unbeaten and full of confidence, yet they obviously
hadn't faced the quality of Linby Ladies. The girls quickly controlled the pace
of the game with their pass and move football and dominated the whole game. Zoe
opened the scoring after some fantastic football between Sianna and Amber giving
her the opportunity to hit a shot that the keeper could not stop. A fantastic
pass from Courtney found the unmarked Zoe once more who's shot could only be
parried into the path of Sianna who again made no mistake from close range.
win 2-0
Final
v's Hungate Rovers
This will be remembered as the Millie-Rae final. The game had a draw written all
over it with both sets of girls visibly shattered from 90 minutes of football,
played at high tempo's, in red hot conditions. An additional 5 minutes of extra
time had to be played before the game went to penalties.Hungate stepped up to
take the first penalty which was blazed high and wide. Linby's first was
dispatched comfortably by Sianna, 0-1. Hungate's second was easily saved by
Millie-Rae and Courtney also had her shot saved by the Hungate keeper, 0-1.
Hungate stepped up to take the 3rd penalty only to see her powerfully driven
shot shot saved expertly with a strong right hand by Millie-Rae, which saw the
ball strike the upright and out of play. WHAT A SAVE, even Linby's founder
member, Peter Shilton, would have been happy with that save. Amber then stroked
her penalty home to give Linby a 0-2 lead. Hungate then eventually managed to
beat Millie-Rae with their 4th penalty before Lauren wrapped the game up with
the winning penalty. It's ironic that the only goal scored against Millie-Rae
all tournament was the last kick that the opposition had.

LINBY
LADIES UNDER 13’s Blue
A hot
summers day greeted Linby Ladies under 13’s blue after they travelled south to
Cambridgeshire today for the second year running with one objective. To defend
the title of champions they won in 2008 but after a great display of football,
guts and determination were narrowly beaten 2 – 1 in the final to finish
credible runners up.
All the girls performed outstandingly and committed themselves in a professional
way as you would expect from a Linby team which this year included some goal
celebrations of back flips and cartwheels that had the spectators applauding.
They also applauded time after time as the passing and moving of the team was a
joy to watch.
A total of 7 league format games
were played and Linby finished at the top after securing four wins and three
draws whilst only conceding one goal. The defensive pair for most of the day saw
Jade Benniston and player of the day Kirsty Peat showing formidable
determination and organisation to keep the opposition out. Where teams pushed
forward in some games and created chances keeper Gabi Oxley got behind the
attempts in the Linby goal. The midfield trio of Lauren Betteridge, Paige Rogers
and Charlotte Nolan rotated superbly and commanded the majority of games with
clever positioning and neat that at times quite literally carved teams up. Today
saw Sammy Barlow and Eleanor Brooks up front and both worked hard to rain
attempts in on goal against the opposition.
The first 2 games ended in draws
as Linby steadily got into their stride and Betteridge was the first to get on
the score sheet in game two. The next two games resulted in a maximum of six
points as Betteridge again got one following a slick move involving Peat and
Rogers. Nolan’s hard work paid off with a goal and Brooks cleverly turned to
bag her first. Following a goalless draw next the sixth game proved a walk over
for Linby as Brooks and Nolan, who got 2 goals, finished off the opposition. The
final league was a formality as Linby were now in the semi-finals and they won
it 1-0 thanks to a goal by Barlow.
The
semi final never honestly looked liked troubling Linby but somehow it was a
nervous affair as shot after shot form Linby never seemed to result in a goal
until with 2 minutes to go Rogers riffled in a great corner that got a
deflection and gave Linby a one nil win.
The
final was a close affair against a strong Coundon Girls side who somehow managed
to field a player that had not been seen at the tournament all day until the
final??
Nolan was quick out of the blocks
and scored on 3 mins to give Linby the lead. Linby held well despite pressure
from Coundon but following a free kick awarded just outside the box the same
‘mystery’ player easily side footed into the net as the Linby wall never
really got organised. With minutes to go Barlow was fouled in midfield but the
free kick was not given and Coundon broke free to get the winner through their
‘mystery’ player. Yet again Linby Under 13’s Blue came home with a trophy
and show signs of more to come in the summer.
Scorers – Barlow, Betteridge 2,
Brooks 2, Nolan 4.
Player
of the day – Kirsty Peat.
OADBY
AND WIGSTON TOURNAMENT
Under
11s:
Linby 1 v Oadby Wigston
A 0
The first game of the tournament saw Linby
dominate the whole of the match. Georgie Boyce took her first turn in goal but
hardly laid a glove on the ball. Jaime and Caitlin bossed the defence with Chloe
Peat and Daisy in midfield giving plenty of options for the attack of Chloe Cope
and Ruth. Ruth scored the only goal of the game, a lovely solo effort, beating 2
players and passing the ball into the net. Ellie Brown also made her debut as a
substitute slotting into the midfield.
Linby 0 v Bedworth Eagles 1
A very different match against the Eagles,
who were a very strong side. A well took goal that Georgie could do nothing
about was all that separated the teams. A decent overall performance but Linby
should learn to use their strength more against the bigger teams.
Linby 3 v ISE Lodge 0
Linby
had now shaken off the rustiness of the opening matches and with Chloe Peat in
goal making some great saves and the rest of the team responding well. Georgie
scored the first, a great shot that flew into the net. Caitlin scored a great
individual goal, taking the ball from defence and when the opposition backed off
shot and scored. The third was from a cross shot from Georgie that Chloe Cope
delicately flicked past the keeper.
Linby
0 v Rugby 0
Chloe
Peat was again in goal and kept Linby in it with several good saves. Daisy also
put in another good game as her confidence grew. Linby had some chances but
couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net.
Linby
0 v Oadby & Wigston B 1 –
semi final
Not
the best game of the day from Linby. With Georgie in goal this time Linby never
really got into their stride, a well taken goal from Oadby after a quick
breakaway was all that was needed to keep Linby out of the final. Linby tried to
get a goal back but a stubborn Oadby back 4never let them get a look in, despite
good work from Caitlin and Jaime pushing Linby forward at every opportunity
Well done girls. Despite the
weather a decent performance from you all.
Daisy Dignum was player of the tournament for her hard work, her best
performance for the team so far. A big thanks to Georgie and Chloe Peat for
filling in goal and congratulations to Ellie Brown on her debut for the team and
joining us very at short notice.

Andrew
to manage Linbys first team!
Andrew
is a founder member of the club and has been the club chairman throughout this
time. He has been involved in coaching youth football for over 14 years and in
that time has coached at all age groups as well as working for the past 4 years
at the centre of excellence.
Taking
on the clubs senior first team is a new challenge for Andrew as last season he
managed and coached the clubs successful under 16s side. Andrew comments: Its no
secret that since winning promotion two seasons ago into the East Midlands
league we have struggled to be competitive. The players have worked hard and
shown a loyalty and a great team spirit but with such a small squad it was
inevitable that players would pick up knocks and we struggled from time to time
to field a full-strengthened team. With the resignation of the senior team
manager I felt the time was right to take up the challenge, I’m excited about
the new season with the under 16s coming through and with the experienced
players from last season, there is now a nice mixture of both youth and
experience. The key also is to have a large squad of players to give us a chance
by playing a full fit team with players on the bench, I’m also very pleased to
have on board a qualified team of people around me who will give support to both
the players and myself.

Linby
take on the rep squad.
The
might of Linby Ladies Under 13’s blue was asked to play in the Nottinghamshire
Girls Festival Rep Squads games today after one of the sides dropped out. The
girls as usual stepped up to the mark and played against 2 strong Under 14’s
teams and you guessed it won one and lost one. We class that as runners up,
thank you very much. Slightly under strength given the short notice and Katrina
Bloomer, Kirsty Peat and Elle Croucher were unable to attend but still missed by
the team. Huge thanks to Amber Denny of the Under 13’s blue who stepped into
the squad and looked completely at ease and fitted in perfectly. Linby’s first
game was against the Nott’s Rep squad and they produced some fantastic
football to take the win. Down the left Charlotte Nolan, Sammy Barlow and Paige
Rogers created havoc with their movement and passing. Only 8 mins in and Rogers
sent in a great cross that Eleanor Brooks hit first time and just as we were
convinced it was in the keeper got a hand to it. The rep squad settled
eventually and began to set up some chances but in the main were thwarted by the
complete dominance of Sophie Beldham at left back and Abbi Gale at right back
who forced virtually all of their runs out down the wing. In the centre of
defence the partnership of Ellie Marriott and Jade Benniston shone as they let
literally nothing through at the back. Bec Collingwood was on top form and had a
quiet first half with her reliability. Lauren Betteridge decided to spend the
game outwitting the rep team midfielders and working well with Leah Collingwood
and Gabi Oxley up front. Both Collingwood and Oxley got stuck in moved the ball
well despite having to play in different positions again. Before the half ended
Amber Denny came on and used her natural skill to compete and pass the ball
well. The second half saw Linby battle in the
heat and decide to dominate more than the first half. 10 mins in and work down
the left saw a cross delivered that was not dealt with and Denny struck it
sweetly with her left foot to give us the lead. All of the girls continued to
battle and stuck to the game plan of moving the ball by neat passing. Within the
last 5 mins the Rep Squad put in some good moves and created two good chances
that were brilliantly saved by Bec Collingwood. A great performance that
guaranteed the girls a win, and a more than credible day out.
The
second game saw Linby up against the pick of the bunch from the entire South
Wales football teams. With only 2 subs available to Linby and 6 to the South
Wales side it was always going to be tough. The game started well for Linby as
they once again stuck to the passing game and Rogers, Barlow and Nolan played
some great football. Betteridge was working well up front and trying to win
everything and keep Linby in possession with the help of Oxley and Brooks down
the right. 5 mins in and the strength and age of the South Wales team showed as
their clever passing and skill paid off and they scored 2 goals that left Linby
with a lot to do. They continued with their pressure and despite some awesome
defending by the back four and especially Player of the day Sophie Beldham Linby
let one more through and finished the half 3 – 0 down. Half time was slightly
marred by some comments by players to others about who was at fault for the
goals when nobody was to blame in these circumstances. The second half was a
test to keep the score down and keep trying to make chances which at times Linby
did but without managing to get a goal. One or two decisions seem to go against
Linby and we sensed that the inevitable would come and after Marriott was fouled
but not given the free kick it left the back open for South Wales to score. The
last 10 mins saw South Wales have lots of efforts on goal but the applause was
for Bec Collinwood who pulled off half a dozen terrific saves. South Wales
finished well for their fifth goal and the game ended with everybody seeing how
strong Linby’s under 13’s are at all levels.

Talent camp beckons Linby Trio!

Three
ex Linby players have been selceted to attend the England talent camp at Rugby
on November 1st. Alice
Clarke who has played for Linby for a number of years had to make a very
difficult decision at the start of this season to leave her club and join
Derbyshire girl's centre of excellence, with the dream of one day being
selected to play for her country. Everyone at the club are delighted at the
news that Alice has been selected to attend. Jade Sheppard, another talented
player who has played for Linby and currently playing for Lincoln center of
excellence has also been selected along with Rachael Murray who is making her
second appearance at the camp, Rachael played for Linby for 3 seasons and is
now currently playing for Nottingham Forest centre of excellence. Everyone at
the club are proud of these girls and what they have achieved so far, we all
wish them all the very best and will follow there progress with much interest.

tournament with 20 teams entered Linbys under 13s came home with the runners up
trophy. The under 13s Yellow won the Southwell tournament. In July Linby entered
five teams into the Leicester Tournament with the under 9s collecting runners up
and the 12s and 13s winning there age groups. In August the girls of Linby
Ladies football club found themselves in the finals at all age groups entered in
the Market Warsop football tournament. The under 11s lost out to a solitary goal
in the final against Middlebrook a side from Sheffield. The under 12s cruised
past all there opposition undefeated and rarely troubled to win the tournament
and the Under 13s despite starting slowly won the tournament on penalties. Team
GB had there super Saturday but Linby had there super Sunday at the Rolls Royce
tournament with Linbys Under 12s, 13s, 14s and 16s collecting the winners
trophies and just last Sunday saw the under 13s win the Oadby and Wigston

Linby
Ladies Under 13 blue traveled into Leicester for the third time this summer and
for the second time had an afternoons drive home with the winner’s trophy
thanks to a great team performance. This was a pre season tournament playing 9 a
side on a full size pitch and a chance to get into the running ready for the new
season.
Quicker out the blocks this week Linby were passing and moving early on and set
up a number of chances that showed the opposition what to expect.
On four minutes following some good work from Katrina Bloomer she set up
Charlotte Nolan for the opening goal. Well into their stride now Sammy Barlow
finished neatly following a well-worked short corner and then an inch perfect
pass from Eleanor Brooks found Lauren Betteridge who finished sharply.
The second game was to be the making of Linby as the defensive line of Ellie
Marriott, Jade Benniston and Sophie Beldham won every ball at the back and
played clever passes to set up each Linby attack.
Barlow sensed her chance to shine and scored 4 goals, the best after a
great passing move between Beldham and Bloomer. Paige Rogers, in her last game
for Linby before she deservedly progresses to the Centre of Excellence, scored 2
excellent goals after combining well with Gabi Oxley and Marriott. In between
their goals Nolan bagged another following Bloomers intelligent play at a short
corner.
The third game saw a spirited Coundon try to unsettle Linby early on but the
defence worked hard to cover their attacks and again set up more Linby pressure.
A resolute goalkeeper for Coundon saw her make numerous good saves and as time
went on Linby were unable to find that killer goal.
The final game was there for the taking for Linby to win the tournament and
they duly applied themselves when Bloomer took aim from Betteridges flick on to
bury a 15 yard shot in the back of the net. Moments later Marriott played some
neat close control football to take it past 2 defenders and finish with a great
left foot shot. Another impressive outing for the girls, and
thanks to the parents once again for their support, especially Geoff Bloomer who
represented Linby in the games as linesman. A
big thanks to Paige Rogers who leaves Linby with an excellent record of goal
scoring and the plaudits of being a class player every time she has worn a Linby
shirt. She will be missed but deserves her chance at the next level. Well done
Paige.
Under
16s
Due to a
number of players away on holiday Linbys under 16s could only field a team of 9
players. Despite there efforts and workrate there was going to be holes
appearing all over the pitch and Linby would needed to capatalise on any set
pieces that came there way. In the first game Linby were trailing by a quality
goal from a strong Marlborough Rovers, Linby equalised from a corner from Laura
Cumberpatch which was headed home on the back post from Hannah Bicknell.
Marlborough replied to win the game 2 – 1. The girls lost the next game 2 –
0 to Wymondham Hearts and then produced a gutsy performance against Humberston
Rangers. Linby took the lead again from a set piece from a free kick which Laura
Cumberpatch lofted into the far corner. Linbys 9 players were frustrating the 11
players of Humberston as Linby were playing as they had the extra players,
Humberston having no time on the ball and Linby keeping possession with lots of
movement and short passing throughout the entire pitch. Cruelly Humberston
equalised in the last remaining minutes. Linbys final game was against the hosts
Oadby and Wigston. The girls were determined to leave the tournament on a high
and this they did out playing there opposition and winning convincingly with 2
goals thanks to lightning pace from Rosie Bingley and a thunderous shot from
Bernedette Piper.
Playing
the whole tournament with 9 players Linby received praise from the tournament
referees as the girls played as always with sportsmanship above all and a real
determination and gutsy performance throughout, just think what they could have
done with a full team. Well done! (Emma Crump, Lauren Jubb, Suzie Gelson, Laura
Muir, Hannah Bicknell, Bernedette Piper, Rachel Wakefield, Laura Cumberpatch
and Rosie Bingley)

Team
GB may have had there super Saturday but Linby had there super Sunday with 4 of
the 6 teams entered into the Rolls Royce football tournament coming away with

without loosing a single game.

UNDER

Another
fantastic victory for Linby under 13’s in what has been a very successful
tournament season 1 semi-final, 1 runners-up and 4 victories and still one to
play!
Congratulations
to all players today as they thoroughly deserved to win even after the worst
possible start in the first game against Wollaton as we imploded to concede to 2
goals in the first minute – we continue to be notoriously slow starters!
However after goals from Sammy and Katrina Bloomer later in the game we didn’t
look back. Sheffield team Handsworth were comfortably beaten 1 nil with another
strike from the ever improving Sammy. Then goals from Maddy Cusack. Sammy and
PaigeRogers gave us a convincing win against Castle Donington. Chesterfield
Girls were the next to feel the force of Linby Sammy again came up with the
solitary goal to seal the win. Neighbours Rolls Royce were then beaten by the
same score with a goal from a good strike (on the second attempt) from Lauren
Betteridge.
Top of the league with 4 wins and one score
draw saw Linby on 14 points with nearest rivals Wollaton and Handsworth on 9
points highlighted Linby’s superiority. But we had won nothing and had to do
it all again with a potential banana skin against Rolls Royce. It very nearly
turned out that way as Linby took a good lead with a goal from Maddy but then
somehow gifted Rolls with an equalizer half way through the game. Linby showed
their spirit and determination and got a deserved winner from an excellent and
technically very difficult volley from Paige.
The Final
: A very competitive Handsworth Team seemed
to lift their game in the final but Linby matched them all the way. To be fair
both teams played well and it was difficult to separate them and unfortunately
it went all the way to penalties again to provide the winner.
Gabby Oxley proved her worth yet again as
our heroin of 2008 tournament footy calmly saved the first Handsworth penalty
then forced the next to strike over the bar. Meanwhile our brave Linby penalty
takers were Paige who crashed home the first, Sammy who smashed in the second
and Jade Benniston who did not have to take one but put her name down and no
doubt would have scored!

girls had their characteristically steady start, but again pulled out the stops
when required to defeat their nearest contenders in the round robin
tournament. Despite a nervous wait for the result of the last game to be played,
the jubilant Linby girls bagged their fourth tournament win out of four,
staggeringly, without losing a match in any of them.
UNDER
15
Only 4
teams in the under 15 tournament saw Linby play some good football and finished
in a comfortable 3rd position.
UNDER
16
The under
16s made a lightning start against Sheffield united when Rachael Henson rounded
the keeper to score within 9 seconds of the start. Everything was undone in the
second game with a shock defeat at the hands of Netherfield. The next 3 games
ended in 0-0 draws against Radcliffe, Chesterfield and Shirebrook. Linby found
there shooting boots for their game against Mansfield Town with a comfortable 2-0 win. Another goalless draw against
Sheffield Steelers left Linby needing at least a draw to secure the
knockout stage, but they were up against tough opposition in Paris girls an
outfit from Liverpool. Despite a brave effort Linby could not contain there
opposition and conceded in the last minute. Linbys progression in the tournament
was now dependant on other results. With the results in, Linby scrapped through
into 4th position on goal difference and were drawn in the
semi-finals against Paris who had been undefeated all day.
Linby
were not intimidated and took the game to Paris and were the better team
creating chances and rarely troubled at the back. It took a little bit of magic
created by Rachael Henson who dribbled the ball into the box and hit
a shot from an acute angle which found the far bottom corner. Paris
piled on the pressure in the dying minutes and Linby had to defend in numbers,
with Nicole Shortland pulling of some heroic saves to secure her teams place in
the final. Linby were up against a capable Chesterfield side in the final.
Despite Linby having the better of the play Chesterfield looked dangerous on
the counter with their pacey strikers. Normal time could not separate the two
teams and it went to 5 minutes extra time. A change at the break saw Rachel
Wakefield come on into midfield and immediately made an impact and thumped the
ball into the back of the Chesterfield net. The opposition tried to rally round
but Linby kept composed and played the game out to secure what was just a
fantastic result and much deserved tournament winners.
Linby Film Stars.

Last
week a selection of girls from Linby’s under 9s, 10s, and 11s were invited to
take part in the filming of an FA Level one coaching DVD. The girls were filmed
for 2 days where they were coached by some of the best grassroots coaches in the
country. The DVD is to be used as an FA educational programme for coaches making
there first steps on the coaching ladder, the DVD will be used throughout the
entire country. The
girls who did a tremendous job were asked to come along at the end of the week
to take part in a film for sponsors Mcdonalds, the film is to be used at this
weekends community shield game against Manchester united and Portsmouth. Linby
coach Carol Eastwood was filmed coaching the Linby girls as they were put
through their paces, a number of girls where interviewed and demonstrated there
skills by performing a number of kick ups. The film will be shown on a large
screen before and at half time at Wembley Stadium this Sunday and there just
might be the chance of snippets being broadcasted on the live coverage on TV.
Linby
Do it again! (Market Warsop Aug 3rd)
The
formidable girls of Linby Ladies football club yet again found themselves in the
finals at all age groups entered into the Market Warsop football tournament last
Sunday. The under 11s (see report below) lost out to a solitary goal in the
final against Middlebrook a side from Sheffield. The under 12s cruised past all
there opposition undefeated and rarely troubled to win the tournament and the
Under 13s despite starting slowly won the tournament on penalties (see report
below)
Linby
Under 13’s Blue - Report
Fresh
from their last tournament victory Linby Ladies under 13’s blue decided to
enter yet another and play the same excellent football, to win the Market Warsop
Tournament. At some times playing against adversity and shameful decision making
all the girls performed outstandingly and committed themselves in a professional
way as you would expect from a Linby team, thanks largely to their captain Ellie
Marriott.
A quick start in the first group game for Sheffield Wednesday saw them take an
early lead and never looked like being troubled by Linby. Paige Rogers was
spritely down the wing and supported well by Charlotte Nolan but unfortunately
their passes into Katrina Bloomer and Sammy Barlow could not find the net.
The second game saw our players begin to gel and Jade Benniston and Kirsty Peat
dealt strongly at the back and play sensibly into the midfielder’s feet of
Ellie Croucher and Rogers. Strong work on the left from Sophie Beldham saw her
put in a great cross that Croucher slotted in the corner for 1 – 0.
Gabi Oxley had to get behind some attempts in the Linby goal and in the
second period a mix up with the defence was enough for Arnold to equalise.
Sensing they had to push on to qualify their next game saw Kirsty Peat destroy
the opposition with a hat trick following tremendous runs and dribbling. Katrina
Bloomer got on the score sheet with a well taking shot on the turn and Linby
were in their stride. Playing
Sheffield Wednesday again in the league proved this time to be the making of
Linby. This game was quite literally dominated by Rogers who spent the entire
game taking players on a beating them with skill to set up 2 goals that were
finished by Nolan and Sammy Barlow. The last 2 games saw Nolan get a goal for a
win against Arnold Yellow and thanks to Oxley’s saves in goal earned a draw
against Arnold Blue.
Finishing level on points with Wednesday meant a final was needed to decide the
winner. Probably the strangest final ever was witnessed, that and some crazy
behaviour by the Wednesday manager and parents who twice took their girls off
the pitch in an attempt to disrupt a game they were losing thanks to a great
early goal by Bloomer.
After spending 5 minutes kicking, pushing and pulling at Nolan her patience
snapped and a swipe of the arm resulted in her sportingly leaving the field of
play and leaving Linby with a player down.
Why some parents see fit to scream at the ref to get a player sent off
defies belief at this level. Still
not happy Wednesday players decided to use foul and abusive language to the ref
and not receive a caution, followed by a throw in they disagreed with leading
them to leave the field. They now insisted on returning to play if the score was
reverted to 0-0 was even more bizarre. The
ref did nothing than let them play on until they equalised and then blew the
final whistle. I hold nothing back when I
say if you want to see one team act professionally and step up and score 3
cracking penalties look no further than Linby Ladies Under 13 blue.
If you want to see a team self destruct thanks to having Oxley in our
goal look at Sheffield Wednesday!!
In a word Linby – Winners!!!
Market
Warsop Tournament Under 11s Report.
Group
Match 1
- Linby
2 v 0 Sherwood
With
several players unavailable this was always going to a difficult tournament for
Linby and an opening match with local rivals was going to be a real test.
However Linby began in tremendous style by taking an early lead. From a quickly
taken throw on the left Sarah Duffield released Paige Housley down the right and
when Paige laid the ball neatly into the Sherwood penalty area it was Sarah who
raced onto it and fired the ball into the net. Early in the second half Abbie
Truman released Paige down the right and she again sent Sarah clear, who
finished cooly by flicking the ball past the Sherwood keeper.
Sherwood responded superbly but their best
effort was inches wide, as their striker was pressurised by Molly Slater
Match
2
- Linby
0 v 1 Middlewood.
Any
idea of the tournament being easy was quashed in Linby's second fixture against
Sheffield based Middlewood. Goalkeeper Ashleigh Hind was forced into action
early in the game as she prevented the ball from entering the roof of the net.
However minutes later Linby found themselves a goal behind. Ashleigh again made
a great stop but unfortunately the rebound fell at the feet of an onrushing
Middlewood forward, who made no mistake from 5 yards. The goal seemed to knock
Linby's confidence and the girls were unable to find their passing game and as a
result could find no way back into the match.
Match
3
- Robin
Hood Colts 0 v 0 Linby.
Match
3 was dominated by two excellent defensive performances
, Molly Slater & Abbie Truman were
superb at the back for Linby and with Chloe Vernon dominant in midfield Linby
were hopeful of stealing all three points. However Robin Hood were extremely
well organised and it was no surprise that they would go through the competition
without conceding a goal.
Match
4
- Linby
0 v 0 Arnold Town
Linby
entered the match knowing that a draw with Arnold in their final game would see
them progress to the Semi-Final. Early in the game Chloe Vernon forced the
Arnold keeper to make a great save at her near post and when Sarah latched onto
the rebound it looked a certain goal. However the keeper had other ideas
and responded with another stunning stop. Arnold then countered but Molly was on
hand to thwart them with a great block. At half time Linby introduced the fresh
legs of Jodie Blacknell and Chloe Booth, but they spent much of the half
defending as Arnold forced the pace. Linby showed real fighting qualities to
hold out for the draw and a deserved place in the semi finals.
Semi-Final
- Wollaton 0 v 1 Linby
Linby
stunned Wollaton early in the Semi-Final when Paige Housley again released Sarah
down the left. Sarah hit a long range effort which dipped viciously at the
last moment, giving the Wollaton keeper no chance. In the second period the
team defended brilliantly from front to back, with Chloe Booth a revelation on
the right hand side of midfield.
Final
- Middlebrook 1 v 0 Linby
Linby
almost stole an early lead when Chloe Vernons firmly hit shot from range was
pushed wide by the Middlebrook keeper. However moments later it was Ashleigh in
action as she made a sharp stop, diving to her right. As Middlebrook found their
rhythm Abbie and Molly made several crucial challenges to keep them at bay. Just
before the interval Linby failed to clear the ball and a cross from a
Middlewood player crashed over the line off the underside of the bar. Linby
almost responded immediately as Sarah had a shot cleared off the line.
In the second half Linby carried the game
to their opponents. Firstly Chloe Vernon released Jodie whose effort was blocked
at the near post.
Then Chloe Booth sent a cracking pass into
the Middlewood box, which Jodie steered inches wide. At the other end Ashleigh
was again called into action to save smartly, as Middlewood sought to finish the
tie on the counter. Jenna Iliffie then gathered the ball on the left and went on
a tremendous run, before her shot was blocked for a corner. Linby were then
denied by the woodwork as Sarah saw her long range cannon back off the crossbar
following some excellent work in midfield from Chloe Vernon. The final whistle
came to soon for Linby who had to settle for runners up, despite a brave fight
back.
With
several regulars missing it was a great effort from the girls to reach the final
and showed that the depth of the squad is improving rapidly, with everyone
making valuable contributions throughout the tournament. Well done girls!!

Leicester City Ladies
Football Tournament
(Sunday
6th July)
Linby Under 9’s
Tournament finalist yet again!
Linby
Ladies Under 9’s battled through
wind & rain to reach the final of the Leicester City Ladies FC tournament.
Linby earned a 0-0 draw against
Woodlands FC after a shaky start in wet conditions. Linby improved their
formation against a strong West Bridgford Colts side but conceded to go one goal
down. Linby showed some great character & levelled the game 1-1 with Rae
Griffiths converting a well struck corner & Chloe Benniston pulling of some
excellent saves to keep Linby in the game. Linby’s 3rd game against
Oadby & Wigston saw them earn a good 1-0 result with Natasha Allen lining up
with Caitlin Townsend in defence providing a solid back line. After more
torrential downpours Linby faced Arnold Town. & ran out 1-0 winners again
thanks to good work from the midfield of Chloe Cope & Katie Morton. Rae
Griffiths again got the only goal after linking up well with Chloe Peat. Linby
had now found their rhythm & despatched Deeping Diamonds with a good team
display,Rae scoring twice & Natasha Allen also netting a rebound. The
semi-final against Oadby & Wigston Dynamos resulted in a 0-0 draw AET with
penalties to decide the winners. It was 3-3 after the first set of 5 penalties
with sudden death next. Linby kept their cool & scored their first 2
penalties, Chloe Benniston saved Oadby’s 2nd to send Linby into the
final. Linby played well in the final with West Bridgford scoring the only goal
of the game. Linby kept going with the whole team digging deep, defending well
and attacking at every opportunity but just couldn’t get that last touch for a
goal. On the final whistle the West Bridgford crowd were ecstatic at finally
beating a Linby side this year. Well done girls you showed great character in
really difficult conditions. The communication between you all and the way you
covered each other’s positions was great to watch.
Golden Goal beats Linbys under 11s.
Linbys
under 11s were playing some breathtaking football as they won their league and
breezed through their qualifying stages. The met with the hosts Leicester City
in the semi-final stage and despite being the better team Linby could not find
the back of the net. The game went into extra time and the golden goal. On a
counter attack the Leicester striker found a little space and collected the ball
to finish well to beat the Linby keeper and dispatch them from the tournament.
Linby under 12’s seal a fantastic day with a superb
victory.
Along
the way they overcame some real quality competition showing excellent football
and real determination and spirit.
Finished top of table in qualifier
drawing first two when we really dominated but struggled to out ball in the net,
then winning 3rd game by four but really could have ten but for
excellent goalkeeping. This lead to a quarter final that we again dominated and
again could have had ten!
The semi final was against class
opposition Penn Colts from Wolverhampton – to say they were unhappy was an
understatement having won their league without conceding a goal – but we duly
sent them back to Wolverhampton – their manager showing a lack of respect to
Linby by saying they never got going – we never let them in it!!
The final was against old and familiar
foe in the shape of Bedford Girls who we beat on penalties in the Sawtry final
and drew with in the league qualification then beating them on penalties to win
top spot in the league (showing the strength of our qualifying league).
It was always going to be close but to
be fair Bedford never troubled us and they didn’t get a shot on goal. When
Maddy Cusack found some space in front of goal she unleashed an unstoppable shot
to win it!
3 out of 3 ain’t bad for
Linby’s under 13s. Linby ladies under 13’s yellow travelled to a wet Leicester
city tournament
but
even the heavy thundery showers couldn't stop the superb flowing passing
moves,
with Linby breezing through the group and quarter final stage they
came
up against a well organised Deeping Diamonds team in the semi final
eventually
winning 1-0. so though to a tough final against Southwell, 0-0
after
extra time, on to penalties with Linby finally winning 4-2. Three
tournaments entered
so far with 3 winners medals, can’t be bad,
well done.
Penalties are just not our thing! Say the under 15s.
The under 15s playing in the under 16s tournament won their league and
were awarded a bye in the 1st knockout stage. They met Soilhull in
the quarterfinals and where dispatched from the tournament on penalties after
normal and extra time could not split the two sides. The under 15’s just
don’t do penalties as they were beaten in the final of the Priory Celtic
Tournament on penalties just a month ago.
Southwell
Football Tournament
Linbys
Under 13s yellow represented the club and came home with silverware by winning
the tournament.
Linby
do it again at the Marlborough Rovers Tournament
Rain
and more rain greeted Linby Ladies under 13’s blue after they travelled to
Leicestershire today and drove back with the runners up trophy from the
Marlborough Rovers Tournament. An
excellent run tournament helped the spirits on a wet and cold day and as usual
the Linby players showed their class and skill in their games with some stunning
passing moves that led to a torrent of goals.
A quick start in the first group
game is an understatement as within 5 seconds of the kick off Maddy Cusack
passed to Captain Charlotte Nolan who took on two players and scored. A chance
to get in their stride in this game saw Ellie Marriott score a hat trick and
Cusack to open her account for a 5 – 0 win.
The second game was an equally class display with Cusack bagging two more and
Eleanor Brooks benefiting after a good low shot.
Rotating the goalkeepers each game proved easy for Linby and in the third game
Jade Beniston set up Cusack for the first goal and then a run down the wing
followed by an inch perfect pass from Nolan gave Cusack her second. Linby were
grateful to an own goal for their third goal before Brooks poached on the line
for number 4.
The fourth game was the tightest
as Linby looked for a clean sweep but were rattled early on when they went one
down. Cool defending from Benniston
made sure Linby held their nerve and clever passing from Abbi Gale set up Cusack
for an equaliser. Fortune again favoured Linby as pressure on the defender by
Sophie Beldham caused another own goal and sealed a Linby win.
Sensing they had a real chance
Marriott took less than a minute to score in the quarter final and cool finishes
from Nolan and Gale ensured a semi final place.
The semi final was against one of
the many Leicester City teams but the confidence and skill of Linby prevailed
and a goal each for Nolan and Cusack was enough for the win.
The final was a close affair
against another Leicester side and it looked good early on as Nolan took full
advantage of a getting on the end of a smart Marriott and Cusack move to take
the lead. A free kick awarded to
Leicester was well taken from 10 yards and the game was level. The second half
saw a scrappy affair with the game stopping and starting on the refs whistle but
a decisive 2 on 1 move by Leicester saw them score with less than a minute to go
and the game was up.
Special thanks to Lauren
Betteridge who wasn’t in the squad today but came along and supported the team
well.
Linby
should be pleased with yet again getting a trophy and being runners up in a
tournament that saw 20 teams competing in their age group.
What
a start to the summer tournaments
as all
teams make the finals.
Priory
Celtic Tournament ( Saturday June 7th)
Linby Ladies FC entered 5 teams into the Priory
Celtic 6 aside football tournament and Linby almost made it a clean sweep with
all 5 teams getting into the finals only for the under 15s to miss out on
winners medals as they were beaten 12 – 11 in a tense penalty shoot-out
against derby outfit St Georges.
Under 9s:
Undefeated throughout the day, beating Castle Donnigton 8-0, Sherwood 2-0 and
drawing 0-0 with Westbridgford. Linby despatched of Priory 2-0 in the semi
finals. Linby met up with a Vernon Colts in the final in normal time the result
stood at 1-1 and it went to penalties. 3 penalties a piece with Vernon stepping
up first and scoring, Linby replied with a great penalty from Georgie Boyce,
Vernon’s second hit the post, Linbys second penalty was confidentially taken
by Caitlen Townsend , Vernon needed to score to stay in the competition but
Linbys keeper Chloe Benniston had other ideas and pulled off a great save to win
the tournament for her team. Goal scorers on the day: Chloe Peat 5, Rae
Griffiths 5, Georgie Boyce 2, Caitlin Townsend 2, and Chloe Cope 1. Scored 15
goals conceded 2.
Under
10s:
cruised their way to the final and met up with local rivals Rolls Royce. Rolls
had the better chances hitting the woodwork but a brilliant solo effort and a
terrific finish from Ellie Betteridge sealed the win and Linbys 2nd
winners trophy of the day.
Under
11s:
Not playing their best football in the qualifying rounds and only just scrapped
through to the knockout stages. But from here on Linby turned on the style and
coasted their way to the final where they came up against Notts city schools and
in a close contest Linby found the killer punch to collect Linbys 3rd
winners trophy.
Under
13s Yellow:
Stuttered and spluttered through 5 qualifying matches without showing true form,
but peaked magnificently in the semi finals to dispatch Netherfield 7 – 1
before continuing the form to beat old rivals Southwell 4 – 0 in an awesome
display in the final.
Under
15s:
Linby played some superb football out classing and dispatching their opposition
in style to win the qualifying group. Linby beating Netherfield 5-2, Keyworth
2-0, Clifton 4-0, Brixworth 4-0. They beat Keyworth Green 5-0 in the quarters
and Radcliffe 2-0 in the semi finals. Linby opposition was St Georges in the
final and Linby started well and were 2-0 up at the break and felt they were
playing well enough to win the tournament but in a freak 2 minutes St Georges
scored 2 goals to equalise, with the competition ripe St Georges had a player
sent off, but there was not enough time on the clock for Linby to capitalise.
The penalty shoot out looked as it was going to go on all night as both teams
could not be separated, but one team had to miss at some stage and cruelly it
was Linby loosing out 12-11. Goals scored on the day: Charlotte Clarke 10 who
scored in every game, Rachael Murray 10, Laura Cumberpatch 5, Rachael Henson 4,
Laura Muir 2, Suzie Gelson 1, Bernadette Piper 1. Scoring 33 and conceding 13.
Sawtry
Tournament ( Sunday June 8th)
A
hot summers day greeted Linby Ladies under 13’s blue after they travelled
south to Cambridgeshire today and cheerfully drove back with the winners trophy
from the Sawtry Colts Tournament. All the girls performed outstandingly and
committed themselves in a professional way as you would expect from a Linby
team. A quick start in the first group game saw Captain Charlotte Nolan find the
net after 3 minutes and with all the girls keen to shine it was enough for a
winning start. The second game was an identical score line with this time
Eleanor Brooks benefiting after a good low shot was fumbled by the keeper. The
third group game saw Jade Beniston busier in defence to good effect and Gabi
Oxley getting behind some attempts in the Linby goal. A corner form Buckden
Juniors was slotted home in between a static Linby team and the game ended in a
1 -0 defeat. Sensing they had to push on to qualify their fourth game saw one of
the goals of the day when Beniston lined up for a free kick and rifled it home
thanks to clever positioning in front of the keeper by Lauren Betteridge. The
last two league games saw Nolan again get an early goal that was followed up by
two more well placed shots from Kirsty Peat and Katrina Bloomer for a 3 - 1 win
and then a brace a piece in the last game for Nolan and Paige Rogers was enough
for a convincing win.
The semi final
was against St Ives Rangers who never honestly looked liked troubling Linby
especially after Beniston scored on 3 mins with a 40 yard rocket that bounced
and deceived the keeper to finish in the net. Some slick passing and moving from
all the team made for an entertaining game and resulted in Betteridge shooting
in for a 2 – 0 win.
The final was a close affair against a strong
Bedford Girls side and both teams had chances. Bloomer and Nolan went close and
Oxley pulled off two good saves to keep the tie alive. Extra time could not
separate the teams so the dreaded penalty shoot came. The shoot out was an even affair until Oxley brilliantly
saved the third Bedford attempt, and then after all the Linby players scored
their spot kicks Oxley held her nerve to take the last penalty that she cracked
home for a well deserved Linby victory.
Scotland Tour
2008
The
club played in the Scotland Girls South West Under 13 League Cup and Shield
competition. As Linby were guests they were not allowed to win the competition
as there games were officially frendlies. On the tournament fixture list Linby
were down as England as this gave the tournament a international feel. The
football on this hot and sunny day was at a high standard and both Linby u13
teams were beaten in their opening games, they need not have worried as from
here on they won 6 and drew 2 of their remaining 8 games. Linby’s goals came
from Laura Muir 2, Jade Sheppard 1, Rosie Bingley 1, Siana Bennett 1, Katrina
Bloomer 1, Alice West 1, Courtney Evans 5. The goal of the day came from a
thunderous shot from Laura Muir on the half way line which hit the far top
corner of the net. Linby’s opposition were clubs from Hamilton, Kilmarnock,
Dumfries, East Kilbride, Kilbirnie and their host Kilwinning Sports club.
Trophies were awarded to the winners of the cup and shield with Linby collecting
the fair play award of the day.
Linbys under 10s were also in action playing a couple of friendly games
winning the first 2-1 and drawing the second 0-0. It was a very successful day
as the girls from Linby not only did their club proud but their country too.

On the Sunday the club went on a
ground tour of Ibrox the home of Rangers football club, they got to see the
impressive trophy room as well as the home dressing room where they bumped into
the Broxy the clubs mascot who very kindly posed for a number of photographs. The
club have been on a number of football tours but this Scottish tour was to be
one if not the best tour, the girls as always were impeccably behaved doing
their club and country proud, the hospitality and friendliness from the Scottish
teams was first class. We hope to see a number of the Scottish clubs down at
Church Lane next year as we will look to offer the same hand of friendship as we
received from them. As well as being enjoyable it was also a tiring trip with
some unable to keep up with the pace.

Congratulations
to the clubs under 10's and 11's in winning the double!

The
under 10's pictured above collect the league cup from England footballer
Cassey Stonner, the under 10's defeated Derby County 1 - 0 from the penalty
spot with Sara Duffield hitting a confident shot into the top left corner. The
clubs under 11's also colleted silverware beating Arnold 3 -1, Linby didn't
have it all there own way as Arnold scored 1st and were a tuff nut to crack
but when Jess Wibberley threaded the ball just inside the near post Linby went
on to score two further goals from Sianna Benett and a terrific header from
Courtney Evans. The under 9s were also in action and made it undefeated to the
league cup tournament final and in extra time lost out to a couple of goals
from Vernon Colts. Just the other side of the river Trent the clubs under 13's
Blue made it to the semi-finals of the Victoria trophy. The day before Linbys
under 13s Blue and under 9s took part in two skills sessions on Nottingham's
market square. Big thanks to these girls for there support and professionalism
on the day.
Young
Linby footballer Eleanor Brooks is taking on a huge challenge by attempting to
climb Ben Nevis to raise money for her football club.

Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Great Britain. The summit is 1,344 metres (4,406
ft) above sea level.
On
August 9th 2008 I am climbing the mountain with my Dad, Uncle and Auntie to raise money for Linby
Ladies Football Club.
Please sponsor me for this climb. It’s going to be hard so the more I
raise the harder I will try!!! THANK
YOU.
Eleanor .
You
can pledge your support via the guest book or see Eleanor at training. We all
wish her well!
Linbo
on the park
Linby's
club mascot Linbo the bee was at Titchfield park along with some of the players
from the under 13s blue promoting the club by handing out flyers. Tuesday March
18th saw a free roller skating rink erected on the park along with various
stalls and displays. Big thank you to everyone who helped out on the day.

Womens
FA Cup Final
Sunday March 16th saw

Proud Linby involved at the Lane
There
were some proud local footballers involved at England v Belarus international
at Meadow Lane

Girls from Linby's Under 13s and Under 14s were selected as ball girls for
the England U19's friendly match against Belarus at Meadow Lane.
It was a great night all round. "The girls thoroughly enjoyed the
experience as well as getting close to the action - which turned out to be an
impressive display by England winning 4 - 0. "We
would like to say a big thank you to Graham Moran at Notts County's Football
in the Community for making it happen."
England call-up for
Linby's Rachael Murray
Linby Colliery Welfare Ladies
F.C went a step closer to realising their ambitions of producing an England
player, when 13 year old Rachael Murray got the call up to attend the England
under 15 camp. 30 girls from around the country were selected to attend the week
long camp at Reading. Coach Andrew Eastwood commented that he and everyone at
the club were delighted for Rachael, she has been at Linby for the past 3
seasons and has scored a number of special goals and has been instrumental in
many many more.
From
very early on Rachael was identified as a top class footballer
who would be capable of full filling her footballing ambitions.
Rachael’s first touch and control along with her vision and distribution of
the ball has been a real joy over the seasons, but just as important she has a
good attitude and is a very nice leveled headed girl.
The
club and her team mates will miss her this season as Rachael will go on to play
full time at the centre of excellence, everyone at Linby wishes Rachael well and
we will all be watching her progress with much interest.
Linby
now have a number of girls playing centre of excellence football at Lincoln,
Forest and at Chesterfield. The club has formed strong links with the
Chesterfield centre and are looking to adopt
the FA’s 4 corner player development model as well as working closely
with the centre’s coaching programme. Chairman Andrew Eastwood is excited
about the future as he feels that there are a number of players who are capable
of following in Rachael’s foot steps and one day soon we will have a Linby
player playing for her country.

Club Chairman Andrew
Eastwood commented that success does not happen by chance or good fortune. It
occurs because of the calibre of volunteers that work tirelessly, week in, week
out throughout the season. Whether this is in administration, fund raising,
media, refereeing, coaching or management, The club are lucky to have people
involved who are prepared to go that extra mile to provide a quality place for
the girls to play their football. I have been asked if Linby was an academy and
been told that Linby is an amateur club which is run professionally. Of course
I am very proud, as should everyone else be connected with this club, we
continue together to raise the standards both on and off the field. The quality
both on and off the field is tremendous, the club have girls playing centre of
excellence football and representing their school, county and their league.
The club is forging links with the girls centre
of excellence enabling Linby Ladies to become a pathway to excellence club,
which will give their players the best opportunity to progress and it’s a real
ambition of the club to have a player one day playing for her country. Linby
will be running teams at all age groups in the Notts girls and ladies football
league as well as a senior side in the East Midlands Womens Football League.
Congratulations
to everyone involved, staff and parents for your continued support and,
especially the girls who have been magnificent and a credit to this very special
club.

What a bank holiday
week-end of football!
Saturday:
Saw
a number of the Linby girls take up the football skill challenge at Nottingham's
market square with a family fun theme and the Radio Trent Black Thunders. The
Under 14's and Seniors were involved in one of six Footie Chick regional 5 aside
football tournaments. The seniors getting to the semi-finals and putting
on a terrific display and going out on a penalty shoot-out. The
under 14's were in unstoppable mood as they out played their opposition with
some breath taking football. Undefeated scoring 35 goals and conceding only 5
saw them win the tournament and secure a place in the national finals in
Manchester on June 16th.

Sunday:
Linby's
talented under 10's were looking to do the cup double as earlier in the season
they lifted the FA County shield by beating Priory Celtic 3 - 1. Linby were up
against unknown opposition as Stapleford Villa play in division 2 and on paper
Linby were the favorites. It was to be a real cup final as it was end to end
stuff with Linby having more of the ball and creating the best chances only to
be denied by outstanding goalkeeping. Linby had chances cleared off the line and
shots hitting the woodwork. All square at full time saw the game go into extra
time and we had to wait till the second period for Linby's Alice West to finally
break the deadlock with a well taken goal, coolly slotting the ball past the
keeper. With 3 minutes remaining Linby were now on fire and went on full out
attack as Alice made it two and in the last remaining minute Sarah Bill finished
off the scoring for a 3-0 win and the team lifted the league cup for the second
season in succession.

Monday:
Womens
FA cup final at the city ground between Arsenal and Charlton Ladies was
witnessed by a record 24,500 attendance. The game was a great advert for womens
football as both teams produced excellent football, Charlton took an early lead
but Arsenal fired in 4 goals to complete a remarkable season.

High Flying Linby Under 11's had a
fun packed day as they were guests of Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. The
girls had a tour of the ground, lunch at the pitch diner and watched the game.
After the match on the way out they were quickly interviewed for the TV
"BBC East Midlands today" which was shown on the Monday after.

the presence of special guest, Josanne Potter. Jo a local girl currently plays
for Charlton Athletic and England, she mixed with the girls and made a number of
new friends. The younger girl's were lucky enough to play a game of football
with Jo, how many young players can say they have played football with an
England player? The club where very appreciative of Jo's time and made a small presentation.
Later in the day the men put on a football game with past and present players
from the club.
For

Summer
Tournaments.
Linby's
teams have made their mark on this Summer tournaments as they have picked up
silverware where ever they go:
Castle
Donnington Invitation Tournament:

Linby
entered 2 teams into the Castle Donnington tournament and both teams met each
other in the final. Normal time could not separate the 2 sides, it went down to
the lottery of penalties.
Cotgrave
Tournament:

The
Cotgrave Tournament was an unbelievable day as all Linby teams entered got to
their finals. The under 9's collected the winners cup while the under 10's had
to settle for the runners up loosing out on penalties to Radcliffe. The Under
11's were undefeated and disposed of league champions Westbridgford. The under
12's only slip up was going behind to Arnold in the semi-final and finding the
equaliser in the dying minute. The girls found the golden goal in extra time and
won the final to collect silverware. The Under 13's cruised passed their
oppositions not conceding a single goal to win the tournament for the third
time.
Ashfield
Festival of Sport:

The
Ashfiled Tournament saw both the under 9's and 10's in action. The under 9's
cruised passed Little Eaton Diamonds and Rolls Royce but had to settle for
runners up spot as they conceded a last minute goal to Priory Celtic. The under
10's were undefeated comfortably beating Priory Celtic, Little Eaton Diamonds
and beating Rolls Royce 2-1 in the final game to collect the winners trophy from
legendary England 1966 world cup player Alan Ball.
Victoria
Trophy:
Saw
all Linby teams entered put up a good display by being competitive against
quality teams. Linby Seniors just failed to qualify despite not conceding a
goal. The under 13's were playing in the under 14,s league and the Under
12,s having some good results. The under 10,s who keep improving with every game
got through to the semi-finals and were beaten by the eventual tournament
winners Cambridge.
Radcliffe
Tournament:

Enjoyable
day saw again Linby's teams entered putting on a fine display. The Under 13's
loosing out at the semi-final stage while the under 11's playing at the under
12's age group got through to the final after a nail biting penalty shoot-out.
The girls had to settle for a well deserved runners-up spot as they lost out to
Leamington Spa F.C. The Under 10's also got to their final after a penalty shoot out
at the semi-final stage against Arnold. The final could not separate the two
finalists and it went to the lottery of penalties with Netherfield being
victorious and Linby collecting the runners up spot. Both Senior teams were in
action on the Sunday and just missed out on qualification to the knockout stage
by finishing 5th.
Brampton
Rovers Tournament:
A
very early morning start last Saturday saw the new Linby Ladies under 11’s
rewarded with an excellent pre season tournament win at Brampton Rovers in
Chesterfield and signs of a promising season ahead.
Right
from the first game the girls were a force to be reckoned with and the new
players of Jade Sheppard and Elle Croucher fitted perfectly into the squad and
scored vital goals that enabled them to progress to the semi finals by winning
their group and not losing a single game.
Midfield
forces of Charlotte Nolan, Amber Denny and Lucy Clay controlled each game and
fed strikers Courtney Evans and Emily Keeling with plenty of chances that
resulted in some stylish finishing.
A
change in keeper also allowed Eleanor Brooks a spell up front and a well taken
goal while the Linby defence was once again commanded by Captain Ellie Marriott.
Their
swan song was a near perfect semi final that saw them score six goals, and after
a goalless final, the game and silverware was won in extra time with a goal from
Jade Sheppard.
The
team have now played 5 pre season tournaments and never finished less than semi
finalists whilst being champions in two of them
Hucknall
Rolls Royce Tournament:

In
the final summer tournament of 2006 saw Linby's under 10's and 12's bring home the
silverware. The under 10's scored 11 goals without reply to win the tournament
(see report below) The under 12's left it too the final game and needing to beat
Westbridgford. The dying seconds and Linbys last chance came to Kirsty Wilkins
on the half way line who hit a thunderous shot which hit the back of the
Bridgford net to win the tournament.
Linby
Under 10's report:
Squad:
Paisley, Jessica, Alice, Tia, Amber, Chloe, Charlotte, Courtney.
In
the final tournament of the summer the new U10’s came out on top once again;
Linby had a tough start against Little Eaton which resulting in a 0-0 stalemate,
but it wasn’t long before Linby got in to there passing stride with a 6-0
thumping over local rivals Rolls Royce; up next where Netherfield but they could
not live with our passing game and a comfortable 3-0 win. Radcliffe Olympic
posed our biggest threat but Linby matched them in every department; this game
was a midfield battle where neither side gave an inch resulting in 0-0 scoreline;
new side Vernon Colts entered the fray and put up a good fight but Linby passed
the ball around nicely to record a 2-0 victory.
After
all the games had been completed three teams remained undefeated Little Eaton,
Radcliffe and Linby all three teams never conceded a goal but Linby’s
firepower saw them score eleven goals six more than there nearest rivals
Radcliffe; once again Linby proved that they are the team to beat.
Well
done to all the girls for another tournament win, Lee and I are very proud of
the girl’s achievements this summer; three tournaments entered resulting in
two wins and a runner’s up spot.
I
would also like to take this opportunity in welcoming Jessica back to the club
she is a fantastic player and will make a great addition to the team. Paul.

Club Chairman, Andrew
Eastwood remarked that with all this success on the pitch it is also very
pleasing to see more and more girls coming to the club. They are obviously
enjoying their time and for that I thank the team managers and coaches for
working so hard to include as many girls in their training and making it
interesting and fun. This club is very well respected within the footballing
fraternity and I like to think that we are at the forefront of girls football.
The long term athlete development programme and the SAQ training that the club
has undertaken is already showing the benefits. We will continue to raise the
standards with the Charter Standard accreditation being something that we are
very proud of and also our links with the girls centre of excellence.
To
compliment the success that the club is having, the out of date facilities at
their Church Lane ground are under review. The dilapidated wooden club house and
porta-cabin changing rooms have seen better days. Along with the support of the
football foundation plans are underway to replace the existing facilities with a
purpose brick built building with 4 changing rooms, toilets and meeting room.
The club are currently seeking sponsorship and support to raise the funds to
make their plans reality.
What
a Season as the under 9's do the double!
Congratulations
to Linby's under 15's who won their league sportsmanship award, they can also
take heart from knowing that they finished 4th and are the top Nottinghamshire
team in their league. Congratulations also go to Linby's under 11's who came
runners up in a very strong league. What a season the under 9's have had, not
only winning their league but also clinching the double as they beat Pegasus 2-1
in the league knock out cup competition. The final was held at Calverton Miners
Welfare, Linby took the lead in the first period from an excellent solo effort
from Amber Denny. Linby increased their lead in the second period from an
excellent finish from Amber. Player of the match was awarded to defender Ellie
Betteridge who was outstanding. The Pegasus keeper was also having a storming
game as she made save after save. In the last remaining 5 minutes Pegasus was
awarded a consolation goal. For the full match report see the fixtures
page.

Linby's
under 9's can look back on a terrific season winning the league championship
scoring 77 league goals and conceding only 5. Well done to each and everyone of
you and congratulations to Carol, Paul and Gary on a successful and most
enjoyable season.
Where
in the Money!

Linby pocket the money thanks to
the efforts of the staff at Hucknall's branch of Barclays bank. Joanne
Betteridge, Angela Shaw and Janet Wilson ran a stall on Hucknall's flea market,
selling everything from bric-a-brac to childrens toys and clothes, and raised
£101. Thanks to Barclays pound for pound charity scheme the money was doubled
and a cheque was presented to the club for £202. The money is to go into the
clubs development fund towards the plans to redevelop the Church Lane
ground. Everyone at Linby Ladies F.C would like to thank Joanne and the staff at
Barclays for their efforts and the very kind donation.
UEFA 2006 Women’s
U19 European Championship
Qualifying Round One
Pirelli Stadium, Burton Albion
1 October 2005
Two early goals by Dani Bird set
England up for a comfortable victory that ended a hugely satisfying Euro
tournament for Mo Marley’s youngsters. With a 100 per cent record from their
three games, 17 goals scored and none conceded, it was mission accomplished. To
make their week in the Midlands even more memorable, England twice set new
attendance records for women’s U19 matches in this country. The highest ever
crowd of 1,250 at Burton’s Pirelli Stadium on Saturday meant that almost 3,000
fans watched the three England games at the four-nation tournament. “The girls
loved playing in front of big and enthusiastic crowds,” said U19 Coach Marley,
“and it was great to see such an interest from people in the Midlands.”
The result meant that England qualified for the second
qualifying round as clear winners of the group, with Scotland also going through
as runners-up. Linby organised a coach trip to the England, Scotland game and
the girls were lucky enough to be sitting with the England Womens first team.
Names like Rachel Unitt, Karen Carney etc who obliged in signing autographs and
posing for photos. Pictured below is 2 of the Linby U13 girls with England's
Karen Carney.

Nottinghamshire Charter
Standard Awards 2005

Linby collected 4 awards with Karen Walker winning an FA
Volunteer Workforce award, Carol Eastwood receiving a workforce nomination.
Andrew Eastwood collecting the Nottinghamshire FA Charter Standard Coach of the
year and Katie King winning the overall Nottinghamshire FA Young Leader award.
Our friends at Hucknall Sports won the Charter Standard Development Club award.
