Seniors:         Linby 0  v   Steel City 6                     POM: Laura Allcock

Baptism of fire as Linby played their first league match in the East Midlands Womens North Division 1 at Church Lane against Sheffield outfit, Steel City Wanderers. Linby with a number of players missing due to injury or work commitments started nervously and struggled to string a number of passes together. The visitors soon found themselves 2 goals up and though Linby had good spells throughout the first half, their was not enough of them and they failed to test the keeper. The second period was better with good defending from the back four which was typified by a strong performance from Della Dickinson. Linby from times showed good first time quick passing which resulted in Linby's best chance coming when Zoe Herbert who launched a shot which skimmed the wrong side of the crossbar. Linby's keeper Laura Allcock had an excellent game as she pulled off some terrific saves which earned her player of the match.

Under 10's:   Linby 2  v   Derby County 1                               POM: Chloe Vernon

Linbys under 9s made a great start to there season at home to Derby County. Linby started well against a strong / fit Derby side, with a lot of hard work, intelligent passing and good control. Abbie Truman and Paige Housley handled the pressure well at the back after starting up hill, which enabled Ellie Betteridge to roam the pitch and drive forward. This then allowed player of the match Chloe Vernon to boss the midfield and feed both Molly Clifford & Courteney Csomor, to run the lines and get forward at every opportunity. The First half was a battle of the wills, with Linby just coming out on top. In form goalkeeper Ashleigh Hind had little to deal with. However the second half saw Linby start the stronger and pressurize the Derby goal, which eventually resulted in a superbly finished shot on the far post by Molly Clifford, which totally lifted and re-energised the whole team. From then on the midfield continually drove forward and with the energy & back up of Ellie Betteridge, Linby created some space for Chloe Vernon on the edge of the box, who let fly with a belta, right into the roof of the net, to make it 2 - 0. Derby's fresh legs eventually started to show and with 10minutes left on the clock, scored and well taken goal to make the Final Score 2 - 1 to Linby. I would just like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the team for their hard work and for the rest of the club / parents for their wonderful support, it really created a great atmosphere and a marvelous advertisement for Girls Football............COME ON LINBY !!!!!.

Under 11's:   Linby 10  v  Westbridgford 0      Friendly due to Bridgford not having cards.

Under 13B:   Linby 4  v   Clifton 1                                            POM: Jade Benniston

A much deserved win for Linby under 13’s Blue who are playing up a year due to their success last season and the number of players in their squad. Linby soon got into their rhythm with some good passing and moving from the defence through to the forwards. Some key learns from last weeks friendly were to keep a good shape at the back but also defend in every position when not in possession - this was evident from the work rate of every Linby player. Linby deservedly took the lead on 13 minutes after pressure on the Clifton goal, the ball fell nicely to Abbie Gale who deftly chipped the ball into the far corner. It is difficult to recall a chance on Linby’s goal as the back four, made up of Jodie Norman, Ellie Marriott, Jade Beniston and Kirsty Peat were simply too strong  and clever for the Clifton forwards as they defended well individually and together as a unit – the defence looked solid winning tackles and most of the headers. Further pressure on the Clifton defence caused them to concede a free kick just outside the area. Jade Beniston then stepped up and hit a thunderous ‘Beckham’ style shot which their Keeper did well to get her hands on but was unable to stop going into the far corner - sealing a fantastic player of the day debut for Jade who never put a foot wrong. Lauren Betteridge was playing as a central target player and showed good vision to pick out Charlotte Nolan and Annie Statham with through balls that they both could and perhaps should have converted. 2 nil at half time and we just wanted more of the same in the second half! Eleanor Brooks showed why she wanted to play out this season with some good movement and speed down the right – she could really be one to watch as her fitness and confidence grows. We didn’t have to wait long for the next goal when on 38 minutes Paige Rogers latched on to a ball in the area the Keeper saved well but Paige didn’t give up and when the ball came to her again just inside the box she showed excellent technique and crashed the ball into the far corner. Another debutant and another goal! Linby continued to play well and create chances but conceded a goal on 45 minutes when a Clifton player drilled the ball low into the corner. This did not phase Linby or their new keeper Jess Severn who continued to distribute the ball well and clear her line when required. Both Ashleigh Cameron and Gabbi Oxley are looking more composed as they continue to develop and look more comfortable with the 11 a side format – it will be interesting to see how they progress further. Some changes were made to the team shape with Ellie Marriott moving into midfield showing good determination and work rate and Charlotte Nolan helping out in the middle of defence. Further chances came to Katrina Bloomer who turned sharply in the box but was foiled by the keeper and Lauren Betteridge who somehow missed from about a yard out. Undeterred Lauren was determined to score and got her reward when through on goal she coolly hit the ball into the net. A fantastic start to the season lets hope we can further develop both individually and as a Team.

Under 13Y:   Southwell  2  v   Linby 0                                    POM: Molly Abrahams

The weather may have been sunny and bright, but the Under 13 Yellow start to the season proved to be a little gloomy. The first half started tentatively with a couple of Linby efforts going close: A corner that almost drifted in at the far post, and a rasping drive from 20 yards from Beth Carnegie. Southwell then hit the post to sound an alarm call. After Sophie Whitley hit a 20 yard free-kick there was a short spell where the girls seemed to have picked up their passing game, but the majority of the half seemed to be end to end “hoofball” with Southwell winning most of the 50-50’s. The second half started with a couple of chances again for Linby with the home keeper coming sharply off her line to foil Androulla Kokkinou and Abi Wetton going close with a rare well worked move. Keeper for the second half, Eleni Gospel did enough to force a Southwell striker to shoot wide before being beaten with a similar effort shortly afterwards. Alex Francis poked just wide from a corner as the girls tried to up the tempo in the search for an equaliser, but it was Southwell who broke away and it needed a swift dart from her box and kick from the keeper to keep the deficit at just one. There was no stopping the effort that followed however. A Southwell forward lost her marker, turned and crashed an unstoppable shot high into the net. Linby huffed and puffed but were unable to fight their way back into the match. Although the Southwell manger confessed after the game that he thought his side were lucky to hang on in the second half. The girls can, and will, play much more fluently than this and the results will surely follow.

Under 14's:   Southwell 0  v   Linby 4                                        POM: Emma Lycett

The under 14’s started their 2077 – 08 campaign with only ten fit players and no first choice goal keeper, but came away from Southwell United with an excellent 4-0 victory.  With a change in formation the girls were on the attack from the off and Jasmin Bear soon had a shot go just wide.  After 15 minutes the girl’s pressure paid off when a Jasmin Bear corner was flicked on by Rebecca Collis and the ball ended up in the net off a defender.  The girls kept up the pressure and but could not get the second goal.  First Rebecca Collis launch a shot that just dipped over the cross bar, this was followed by another Jasmin Bear shot going just wide.  Emma Lycett then threaded a through ball to Rebecca Collis who found Megan Smith who saw her shot go just wide.  Any attack mounted by Southwell was dealt with by the impressive Shannon Colley and Kayley Shaw leaving Beth Tennant with little do in goal. The second half started as the first half finished with the girls going all out for the second goal, first Kayley Shaw had a shot wide, and Megan Smith had a good shot well save at the post.  The breakthrough came after 15 minutes when another Jasmin Bear corner was met by Rachel Eggleshaw, who fired home from six yards.  Emma Lycett then found Jasmin Bear, who intern Found Rebecca lane who finished from a tight angle just inside the six yard box.  Excellent covering from Kayley Shaw then snuffed out an attack from Southwell.  Megan Smith then had a shot hit the bar; this was followed shortly after with Rachel Eggleshaw hitting the post.  With minutes to go Shannon Colley put a through ball to Rebecca Lane who claimed her second and Linbys fourth from just inside the box to earn a well deserved win.  Player of the match went to the ever improving Emma Lycett.

Under 15's:   Beeston 1  v   Linby 6                                       POM: Nicole Shortland

Linbys under 15s kicked off their season on a sunny afternoon and without the luxury of substitutions away to a physical Beeston side, who won promotion last season into division 1. The first half saw a Linby side putting in 100% effort as they denied their opposition no time on the ball. Half way through the first half Linby found the back of the net as Suzie Gelson passed wide to Jade Gash who hit a first time cross in front of goal which found Nicole Shortland coming in on the far post to tap home. Linby continued to work hard in the second period and were awarded with their second as Bernadette Pipers shot rebounded off the keeper for striker Charlotte Clarke to slot the ball into the back of the net. Beeston replied and had a good spell of 10 minutes and pulled a goal back as they bundled Linbys keeper Katherine Asbury and the ball over the line. Linby responded and went on the rampage which was started from a throw in over the top of which Bernedette Piper turned and hit a thunderous volley into the top far corner. Linbys 4th came when Nicole received the ball in a wide position and ran the ball into the box and struck a sweet left foot shot into the far bottom corner. Charlotte Clarke got Linbys 5th as she received a delightfull through ball pass from Rachael Henson and with just the keeper to beat she sent the keeper the wrong way with a cheeky step over and slotted home with her left foot.. Linby rounded off their first game of the season with their 6th goal and Charlotte Clarkes hat-trick when Laura Muir ran the ball down the flank hit a cross  which Nicole dummied for Charlotte to tap in from the far post. Excellent team performance today with specail mentions to Amira Fanous who was outstanding at right back, Jade Gash working and battling hard down the right, Rachael Henson busy and strong in midfield and player of the match Nicole Shortland who ran and battled throughout the entire game.

Under 16's:   Linby 0  v   Lincoln 10

Linbys under 16s had a difficult morning only able to field 8 players due to holidays, injuries and a registration card mix up. Lincoln came for the win and with a squad of 16 they didn't take any prisoners. The girls of Linby can take heart as they only conceded 3 goals in the second period. Big thanks to Phil Cumberpatch for his efforts today, managing the team as well as running the line, we could do with a few more like you, thank you from all the girls.

Seniors:        Linby 2  v   Allestree 1                                       POM: Rachel Radford

The second match of the senior ladies campaign against Allestree, saw a more fired up squad than the previous week. From the first kick the message was sent to the opposition that we were here to win!! Linby piled on the pressure and was given their first opportunity to score within the first 5 minutes of the game, when Robyn Sewell shot thundered towards the keeper who pulled of a good save to deny our first goal. Linby's constant attack eventually paid off when an inch perfect ball delivered by Rachel Radford met Zoe Herbert who brought it down and slotted it away like a seasoned professional to give a 1 : 0 lead going into half time. Fantastic first half performance by Robyn.
Allestree started the second half stronger than the first creating a few chances of there own but our back four remained strong and defiant. Laura Allcock in goal pulled off some good saves throughout the second half but was eventually foiled by a headed goal with only 10 minutes of the game remaining 1 : 1.
Linby had a very quick reply to the Allestree goal starting from the centre kick Rachel Radford delivered another fantastic ball to Courtney Walters (second half sub) who rifled the ball at goal which hit the cross bar but was put eventually over the line by Leah Smithson (second half sub). 2 : 1 An amazing performance by all. Player of the match went to Rachel Radford.

Under 10's:   Donnington  0  v   Linby  11                          POM: Molly Clifford

Following a good result last week, the girls were in high spirit and nothing was going to stop them from playing football. The game started well for the girls and with some great passes and positional play Sara Duffield had scored her HAT TRICK within the first 10minutes, which left Linby well in control. After 15minutes Chelsie Gash came on for Sara and played well down the right hand side, feeding Molly Clifford, who with good link up play had scored twice herself and set up two more, with assistance of Chloe Vernon for Courteney Csomor and Chelsie Gash (Chelsie’s first goal for the club – well done). Then following a quiet first half for the defenders, Ellie Betteridge swapped with goalkeeper Ashleigh Hind and Paige Housley took over from Abbie Truman for the first 10minutes before moving up to striker. The girls remained very controlled in the second half and continued to pass and move, to create space for each other, which resulted in another four goals, one for Chelsie, Courteney and Sara and another for Molly Clifford to round off her HAT TRICK and seal the ‘player of the match’. Again credit to all of the girls for their hard work and team spirit, and to all of the supporting parents for their assistance.

Goal Scorers:- Sara Duffield (4) Molly Clifford (3) Courteney Csomor (2) Chelsie Gash (2)

Under 11's:   Stapleford  1  v   Linby  8                           POM: Alice West

A great start to the season for Linby U11’s coming out 8-1 winners away to Stapleford Villa – a stuttering start from both sides but it was Linby who started to apply the pressure – The first goal came from a headed clearance from new signing Millie Fugler – the ball fell to Courtney Evans who played a neat pass to Alice West who coolly slotted home the first of the day – Sarah Bill opened up the Stapleford defence with a good run and from an acute angle fired the ball home for number two – Linby were now in full stride and the Stapleford defence did extremely well to deny further goals – the Stapleford keeper had another great game thwarting the Linby strike force time and again – Millie and Jessica Wibberley have struck up a great partnership in defence in such a short period of time – proving what a good signing Millie has turned out to be – goal number three was a managers dream a pass from Jessica to Sarah who released the ball at the right time to Alice who squared a pass through to Courtney who finished at the first time of asking – Chloe Newcombe played well again in goal commanding her area well and distributing the ball out nicely – Amber Denny as always played some great through balls for the Linby – her vision and timing is a joy to watch – Stapleford never gave up and worked some great moves of there own towards the end of the half but strong defending from Millie and Jess kept them at bay – Alice West once again found the back of the net from another well worked move  - Amber played a great ball splitting the Stapleford defence in half and there was Alice to fire home her brace – half time 4-0 – Birthday girl Elle Brooks swapped shirts with Chloe, Poppy Sheppard came in to defence Paisley Strang and Sianna Bennett occupied midfield and Lauren Wilson took up the strikers role – Stapleford Villa came out fighting in the second half and Linby had to stay strong to keep to deny them a goal – Elle Brooks improves all the time in goal and her handling just gets better – Sianna and Paisley worked well together providing ammunition to Lauren who first goal was a peach! With the keeper closing her down quickly Lauren had the vision and skill to neatly chip over the advancing keeper ‘that’s one to remember’ this seemed to inspire Lauren and she scored her second and Linby’s sixth with another great pass from Sianna – it wasn’t long before Lauren had her hat-trick – Emily Radford and Tia Marriott entered the game and stood strong in defence and midfield - Emily’s confidence improves every week and Tia’s passing just gets better – once again Poppy’s timing of the tackle is second to none and her passing is improving - Lauren Wilson wrapped up a great performance by scoring her fourth – if Lauren can keep this form going we are looking at the clubs top goal scorer - four goals in around ten minutes isn’t bad – it reminded me of a little player called Solskaer who once scored four in eight minutes against a team against I forget the name of J - Stapleford Villa continued to attack at every opportunity and were rewarded with a consolation goal a good throw and a well timed run opened up the Linby defence and the Stapleford striker buried her chance – a great game all round with good football from both sides – Linby need to keep up this form throughout the season which should see us in the mix come the end of April POM – A tough call today with several players in contention – but this player is a joy to watch – brave as a lion and strong as an ox - Alice West has all the attributes to become a fantastic player – I’m so glad that I have had the pleasure to coach and watch this girl improve over the years – you deserve all the praise that comes your way – well done Alice, Goal scorers: Lauren Wilson 4, Alice West 2, Courtney Evans 1,  Sarah Bill 1

Under 13Y:    Linby  9   v   Westbridgford  1                           POM: Anna Howarth

The girls got back in the groove with a vengeance today and it was a slightly understrength Bridgford that felt the power of Abi Wetton in particular and an impressive all-round performance in general. Who could have foretold what was to come when the visitors forced three corners in succession in the opening two minutes. Having seen off this early pressure, Linby forced a number saves from the accomplished Bridgford keeper, before Abi Wetton turned in the opening goal in the sixth minute.  Katie Abrahams and then the resurgent Anna Howarth both went close before Abi Wetton was denied by the keeper with a vicious free kick from well outside the box. Linby were becoming more and more dominant and it was no surprise when Wetton pounced for her second when a corner from Androulla Kokkinou bounced awkwardly and was not cleared. On the odd occasion when Bridgford were able to get into the Linby half, the defence stood firm with Serena Mason in imperious form. Alice Clarke went very close with a volley and followed up to half volley the ball home, narrowly failing to cash in a bet with Derek ”tightwallet” Howarth that she would score with a volley this season!   Kokkinou hit the post before the irrepressible Wetton netted two more, one with her head, to make the half time score a comfortable and deserved 5-0 The second half opened as the first had closed when Sophie Whitley had a shot well saved before going one better than last week and scoring direct from a corner. Hazel Bowen pushed a shot wide before Alice Clarke looped in a belter from all of 25 yards. On rare foray into the Linby half, A Bridgford player was illegally halted by Kirsty Wilkins, and the resultant penalty duly dispatched to make the score 7-1. The impressive Visiting keeper went on to deny Kokkinou, Bowen and Tammi Heathcote before Sophie Whitley proded home number 8. There was just time for the keeper to pull off another fine save to deny the unlucky Kokkinou, before the sprightly Alex Francis took the ball round the keeper to round off the scoring.  A highly satisfactory afternoon was rounded off with a couple of well earned drinks in the late afternoon sunshine at Goosedale. This being on the direct instruction of our esteemed Chairman!

Goal scorers: Abi Wetton 4, Alice Clarke 2, Sophie Whitley 2, Alex Francis 1.

Under 15's:   Linby 4  v   Calverton  1                                     POM: Suzie Gelson

A scrappy first half which was hampered by the strong cross wind, saw Linby having a terrible first period. The weather was a leveler for visitors Calverton who were battling hard and took a well taken goal as the ball was threaded through the static Linby defence. Calverton could have had a second when the striker was through with just Linby's keeper Katherine Asbury to beat, Katherine stood tall and pulled off a terrific point blank save. After the half time team talk  Linby came out and finally started to compete by pressing the ball and stringing a few passes together. Linby were pilling on the pressure but had to wait midway through the second period to open there account thanks to a great finish from Charlotte Clarke. The girls began to win the 50/50 balls with Rachael Henson stopping the ball going behind and captain Suzie Gelson bossing the midfield. Nicole Shortland was knocking on some first time balls through for strike partner Charlotte Clarke to run onto. On the opposite flank Linbys Jade Gash was getting herself into good positions and with a good opportunity to score just needing to connect with her left foot. Linby stepped up a gear and went on to secure all 3 points with goals from Charlotte Clarke, Laura Muir and an in swinging corner from Laura Cumberpatch. Lessons need to be learned if we are to be successful this season, player of the match was awarded to Suzie Gelson for battling throughout and her never give up attitude. Goal scorers: Charlotte Clarke 2, Laura Cumberpatch 1, Laura Muir 1.

Under 16's:   Long Eaton 7  v   Linby 0                                  POM: Jess Bailey

Linby's under 16s traveled away to West Park the home of Long Eaton. Despite going down to an early goal Linby defended well with full backs Catherine Harvey and Sophie Cook tracking back and working hard, Jess Bailey was sweeping up well as she pulled off some timely tackles to deny the opposition a shooting opportunity. Despite all Linbys efforts and some great saves from Tanya Hardy they conceded 2 more goal. The second period with the wind on there backs Linby began to create some goal scoring chances with the best coming from Becky Garland and Charlotte Turner. Linby conceded 4 goals in the final period but the visitors never gave up and continued to work to the final whistle, well done girls from a proud manager.

Seniors:        Linby 1  v   Westbridgford 2  (FA CUP)          POM: Megan Davies

An unchanged side from the previous game saw the senior ladies start their first round of the F.A. cup against West Bridgford. The visitors opened the first half and immediately went on the attack, All was going well until Linby conceded their first corner after 6 minutes, which saw West Bridgford rattle Linby's defence and slot in their first goal 1 - 0. Linby restarted and went looking for the equalizer, but West Bridgford had other ideas and started to pile on the pressure, but Linby's solid defence kept them at bay, for the next 10 minutes, with fantastic performances from Alisa walker, Della Dickinson, Emma Hunka and Megan Davies. Slowly but surely the tables where turning and Linby started playing classy football playing the ball around and starting to create chances of their own with shots coming from Laura Knight (c) and Zoe Herbert. A strong performance saw Rebecca Brooks dominate the left flank, providing excellent crosses into the box which got their defence on the back foot. Half time score 1 - 0 to West Bridgford. Half time Substitution saw Robyn sewell strike fear into the defence with powerful runs down the right. Eventually Linby's hard work paid off when the ball arrived to Zoe who hit a wonder strike from outside the 18 yard box which saw the keeper scramble but the shot was just too good! 1 -1. Chances after chances were created by Linby and the second half was ours for the taking. but it simply was not to be!, when against the run of play Bridgford had a wonder strike of their own and even Goal keeper Laura Allcock's faultless performance could not see her stop the ball from going in with only 5 minutes of the game remaining 2 - 1 Linby's heads did not drop once and they tried with every last effort to get the game into extra time however time was not with us and the game ended 2 - 1 to the visitors.  With us out of the F A . cup were just going to have to go and win the league now!! Megan Davies's solid game earned her player of the match. Goal scorer: Zoe Herbert

Under 11's:   Woodlands  0   v   Linby  1                    POM: Millie Fugler

For the first time ever our very own Cloughie was missing from the touch line today, but if you listened carefully you could hear him giving out instructions all the way from Portugal.  Right from the kick off the game exploded into what was to be a great game of football.  End to end in the first five minuets saw Jessica Wibberley and Millie Fugler being called upon to coolly clear any trouble that came their way.  This is turning out to be a great defensive partnership that Linby have at the back. But going forward Linby found it very difficult to break the Woodlands back three, who stood strong all game and a goalkeeper who was having a good game. With some now trademark runs down the right side Sarah Bill  was doing her best to try and find a hole in the Woodlands defence. Alice West playing down the left side was having a great game you could see the determination on this girl’s face today always giving 100% for the team. Amber Denny in the centre worked very hard all game constantly looking for that killer pass but also doing her defensive duties learning all the time its not just about going forward.  Lauren Wilson was doing her best up front causing Woodlands defenders all sorts of problems and to be fair to Lauren was not rewarded with a goal today for all her efforts.  As we went into halftime at 0 - 0 the girls knew they were in the toughest game they had played in for a long time.  The second half saw a few changes, Poppy Shepard and her new found confidence gets better week after week simply cleaning up at the back.  Sianna Bennett came in on the left side of midfield doing exactly what was asked of her and had a couple of chances on goal, working really hard for her team mates.  Time was going by and still 0 - 0 and although Linby had most of the possession Woodlands still posed the threat of a counter attack, it was getting very tense.  Alice West came back on to go up front and well into the second half Amber Denny found that killer pass she was looking for and Alice West coolly slotted home AT LAST!  But all this attacking football would have gone to waste if it wasn’t for our Clogger Chloe between the sticks pulling off some fantastic saves, you were brilliant today Chloe, you kept us in the game.  A lot of credit has to go to Woodlands today who gave Linby a real fight with bundles of energy not letting Linby settle on the ball, but it was a great game of football and for my first game in the hot seat I couldn’t have asked for anything more from girls, you all made me very proud today girls well done.  A quick thank you to all the parents today for their support through the match and supportive comments afterwards,  it means a lot to me.  And a special thanks to Gazza a real help to us all every week. Player of the match awarded to Millie Fugler, today this girl played with her heart on her sleeve and never got beat once, her energy and passion inspired the girls to keep going forward and was the rock in the Linby side today.  To Millie, defending actually means something, so well done a truly awe inspiring performance.

Goal Scorer: Alice West.

Under 13B:    Rushcliffe  2  v   Linby  9                          POM: Eleanor Brooks

Can the season really be this good?

A depleted side as a result of sickness did not hinder a much deserved 9 – 2 away win for Linby under 13’s Blue who are showing no signs of struggling so far playing up a year this season. Linby’s determination to pass the ball and move as units evidently plays to their advantage when they get results like this.  Players like Elle Croucher and Eleanor Brooks thrive on the space they get and enjoy the wing play so much it assists the midfielders of Paige Rogers and Charlotte Nolan who both soon got into their rhythm with some good passing and tackling. After Lauren Betteridge went close early on it was down to Rogers to net the first in the 7th minute when she latched on to a cleared ball and planted over the keeper from 30 yards.  From this it seemed like every Linby move was an action replay as either Croucher or Brooks were carrying the ball and putting in crosses, one of which was moved on to Nolan who powered through and scored Linby’s second. Credit to Rushcliffe who put the defence under pressure as they played some lovely through balls that Ellie Marriott and Jade Beniston dealt with thanks to the way they communicate. Sensing that the same would be needed in the second half Linby moved players around to give each other a breather due to the lack of substitutes, and the likes of Gabi Oxley worked tirelessly in different positions to keep Linby in control. 2 minutes in and following good work from Betteridge it came to Brooks who scored after she followed up from a rebound to score at a tight angle.  This was the start that opened the gates to more goals and non more deserved for Betteridge who latched onto a great goal kick by Jess Severn to run 40 yards and coolly slot past the keeper. Minutes later Nolan worked her magic to score her second and then Marriott moved up from defence to latch onto a Brooks cross to slam home Linby’s sixth. Rushcliffe’s determination paid off as there persistent through balls created problems and they scored their first.  Sensing a fight back Betteridge received a ball from the ever busy Abbi Gale and scored her second.   The move of the day involved a double one –two with Beniston and player of the match Brooks that ended up with Beniston cracking in a 25 yard special.  Rushcliffe repeated their through ball again and scored before Betteridge kept her composure to end the game with a well deserved hat trick. Goal Scorers: Lauren Betteridge 3, Charlotte Nolan 2, Jade Beniston 1, Paige Rogers 1, Eleanor Brooks 1, Ellie Marriott 1,

Under 16's:   Linby 0  v   Mansfield  3                                  POM: Tanya Hardy

Linby's under 16's continue to improve as they put in a good team performance as they entertained Mansfield Town at Church Lane. Things were pretty much even as both teams created chances and it was end to end stuff for the first 20 minutes. Linby were defending well but were dealt a cruel blow as an in swinging corner assisted by the wind found the back of the Linby net. Linby didn't allow heads to drop as they continued to battle, with Lauri Jo Dennis winning balls in the middle of the pitch and Charlotte Turner going close. Just before the break Mansfield increased there lead. The second period saw Linby step up a gear and put in a terrific performance only conceding 1 other goal and could have scored a number of their own but were denied by the flag and were guilty of not pulling the trigger a little quicker. Outstanding performance from Linby's goalkeeper Tanya Hardy which earned her player of the match, the back four lead by their captain worked well together, keep improving as our first goal and a win is just around the corner.

Seniors:        Heanor   2  v   Linby  0                                    POM: Megan Davies

For the first time this season Linby attended todays game with a full squad of players, to take on mighty Heanor town. Linby started out the same way they did in the F.A. cup match the week before, full of determination looking for their second win of the season. Heanor tried to pressure Linby in the first 5 minutes but Linby controlled the game from the back showing the opposition how to keep the ball and play it out! There was great link up play between Alisa Walker, Rebecca Wilson and Courtney Walters down the right and Megan Davies, Della DickInson and Rebecca Brooks down the left.
Courtney Walters left defenders flat footed chasing her shadows when she attacked forward with the ball and Linby's first chance fell to Laura Knight who's shot was saved, only just, by the keepers right boot!!! Anna Smith, Rachel Radford, Rebecca Brooks and Courtney's through balls opened up Heanors defence allowing Zoe Herbert and Laura Knight to keep the pressure in Heanor's half. Linby went into half time the happier of the two teams and looking the stronger. Half time score 0 - 0.
An unchanged side saw Linby attack the second half the same way they ended the first half with great one-two passes all over the field, out playing the opposition, winning important challenges and even when they did break through Linby's defence Laura Allcock made some amazing save that even, patron of the club. Peter Shilton would be proud of. A heavy tackle saw an early departure for Laura Knight, in her place the speedy legs of Robyn Sewell was let loose to try and reek havoc to their defence and five minute later Emma Hunka replaced Rebecca Wilson who showed that she is nearly fully recovered from injury. A rare opening in defence saw Heanor seize on their first chance on goal slotting it home passed a fully stretched keeper 1 - 0 An un-rocked Linby went looking for an instant reply and Zoe's fancy footwork nearly saw them equalize, the keeper pulling of a first class save to deny the effort. Just when we looked like we might get back into the game Heanor found another rare gap in defence after a miss placed goal kick  which saw them put away their second with only 20 minutes left in the game 2 - 0 An early knock to Rachel Radford saw Rebecca Mussett replace her to try and ignite a come back, but lLnby was dealt a late blow when Rebecca Brooks first rate performance came to an abrupt end when she was tackled out of the game with a badly sprained ankle. But a goal just did not come Linby's way and the final score finished 2 - 0 to Heanor Town. The over all performance of the ladies is encouraging for the season ahead Wins are surely going come our way, if we keep on playing in the same manor. Another fantastic performance got Megan Davies player of the match from the Linby Coaches. Again it was a tough choice. The Player of the match awarded by the opposition went to Della Dickinson. well played to all the players.

Under 9's:     Arnold  0  v   Linby  1                                                POM: Leia Ward

A great start to Linby's under 9's season playing away to a large Arnold squad of players. Linby took charge right from the off and created some good goal scoring chances. Caitlen Townsend and Jamie Clifford where solid in defence denying Arnold strikers with any chances. Chloe Peat and Leia Ward linked up well, passing and moving which lead to Chloe having a strike on goal only to be denied by the keeper. All square at the break with Linby more determined in the second period fighting for every ball. Linby finally found the break through when Leia Ward went on a solo run and hit the ball into the bottom corner. Player of the match was awarded to Leia for her excellent work rate.

Great start to the season girls, well done!

Goals: Leia Ward

Under 10's:   Arnold Yellow  0  v   Linby  3                            POM: Sara Duffield

The game started well for Linby, with a Hat Trick from Player of the Match Sara Duffield within the first 15minutes. Which was  just rewards for the hard work by the defenders, Ellie Betteridge & Abbie Truman and excellent team play by the midfielders, with Chloe Vernon not only making some superb passes, but also tracking back and pressurising the opposition into mistakes, which enabled both Courteney Csomor & Molly Clifford to feed perfectly timed runs from striker Sara Duffield. The second half was more of a hard fought contest, with Arnold finding their own passes and pushing forward, which created some good chances at goal, only to be well dealt with by Ashleigh Hind, who had a generally quiet game. Paige Housley & Chelsie Gash came on and settled into the midfield straight way, creating chances and making excellent forward and backward runs up and down the wings. Both players had opportunities at goal, which if it wasn’t for the good defending & goalkeeping by Arnold, we could have seen a higher score. The individual ability of the girls was amazing. However collectively they are becoming an excellent and highly intelligent Football  team, with awareness of each others positions and strengths. WELL DONE GIRLS!!!

Goals: Sara Duffield 3.

Under 11's Mansfield  1  v  Linby  18                         POM:   Jessica Wibberley

Cloughie was back from his international duties for today’s clash away to Mansfield Town and with a full strength squad of fourteen players he was chomping at the bit to get going. The whistle went to start the game and before the ref had stopped blowing Alice West had made it one nil and that was pretty much the way the game panned out. Some fantastic football saw Lauren Wilson, Sianna Bennet and Alice West get thirteen goals between them and not to be out done Tia Marriott with some great battling and hard work got herself on the score sheet. With all fourteen players present the second period saw a complete change in personnel but with much the same out come as the first half.  Millie was well in control defending at the back. Some great interplay from Courtney Evans and Amber Denny created another three goals. Ellie Brooks was in goal and improves with every game.  Amy Humphrey's was having the game of her life really working the left flank and enjoying her football. Then the third section again a change in personnel saw a different line up.  Ellie Brooks stayed between the sticks allowing Chloe "Cloggers" Newcombe  to have a good run out and she really got stuck in, which was shown by the redness of her face.  Paisley Strang ran her socks off and got a goal by sticking in there and winning a goalmouth scramble.  Sarah Bill  worked the midfield tirelessly as she always doe's and Poppy Shepard at the back making tackles like Bobby Moore.  Again all the girls giving 110% for Linby and each other and gaining another three points well done girls. All credit to Mansfield Town Ladies today, although short on players they never stopped running and kept their heads held high. POM:  A special mention and a massive well done today to Jess, a player that really makes the difference a great reader of the game a great player of the game and a great sportswoman of the game and the best left foot in the game you were awesome today Jess well done. Goals: Sianna Bennett 5, Alice West 4, Lauren Wilson 4, Courtney Evans 2, Paisley Strang 1, Amber Denny 1,  Tia Marriott 1.

Under 13B:   Linby  8  v   Ruddington 1                              POM: Paige Rogers

Linby show great skill, team work and togetherness to overcome a tough physical Ruddington Team. With Kirsty Peat back from illness it was clear that she was keen to make an impression on the game, and on 6 minutes went flying down the left wing to beat 2 defenders and supply an inch perfect pass for Lauren Betteridge to slot the ball home. This set the tone for much of the 1st half as Kirsty linked up with Gabbi Oxley and Charlotte Nolan on number of occasions to send good crosses into the box. Eleanor Brooks was also busy on the right wing and set up a penalty when she supplied a cross/shot that a Ruddington defender handled in the area. Jade Benniston stepped up to slot the ball into the right corner as cool as you like! Ruddington then got a goal back from a strong shot from just outside the box, wrong footing Keeper Jess Severn. Jess is continuing to develop in goal showing good ability stopping another long range effort 5 minutes later. On 27 minutes Kirsty Peat again broke clear of the defence and at a slight angle crashed the ball into the top corner for a much deserved goal. Linby continued to press and play their now accustomed passing football and were rewarded again on 30 minutes when Ashleigh Cameron controlled a cross and coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner. The defence were rarely troubled with Ellie Marriott and Jade Benniston forming a great partnership and understanding at the heart of the defence, and Abbie Gale slotting in at right back after a great performance last week always busy and eager. The second half was a repeat in terms of Linby’s possession and wing play. Eleanor Brooks linked up with Charlotte Nolan down the right and Charlotte continued to crash the ball into the roof of the net 5 minutes into the second half. Paige Rogers was running the midfield with her short passes and superb quality on the ball and it was no surprise when she sent Ashleigh Cameron through on goal to score her second with a good first touch and a bit of good fortune to slot the ball home. It was good to see Jodie Norman back in the team after illness last week as she came on to replace Abbie Gale at right back. She was determined and battled hard throughout the game. El Croucher started the game upfront and showed some good touches, but it was when she was dropped back to midfield that she found time and space in the box to pass the ball into bottom corner to seal another solid performance. Lauren Betteridge got the final goal of the game with a tap in with her ‘favoured left foot’ after a good shot across the keeper by Eleanor Brooks. The management can’t praise Linby enough with their passing football and cool finishing they really are a joy to watch. The biggest challenge over the last few games has been to award the Player of the match, but Paige Rogers showed great quality and vision on the ball proving it is not all about scoring goals. A fantastic team performance. Scorers: Lauren Betteridge 2 , Jade Benniston , Kirsty Peat , Ashleigh Cameron 2 , Charlotte Nolan , El Croucher

Under 13Y:   Church Warsop  3  v   Linby  6                POM: Androulla Kokkinou

This was a curious match with Linby seeming to have the game in the bag only to let the home side back in on more than one occasion.  The girls finishing however could not be faulted, and the in-form Abi Wetton, who netted five to follow up four in the previous game, is going to make a fortune if her Dad offers to “double her money” for a hat trick each week!

The game started brightly with the visitors forcing a corner straight from the kick off. After only three minutes Androulla Kokkinou scored the opener after playing a one-two. Five minute later, Abi latched onto a long ball and gave the keeper no chance. With Linby looking comfortable, the home side started to  gain a little possession but seemed to offer no real threat. Halfway through the first half Warsop scored a bizarre goal with their first genuine chance. As a striker bore down on goal, she was involved in a collision with Serena Mason, it looked like a bad injury but as Keeper Eleni Gospel stayed out to check on the prone attacker, the ball ran loose and was poked home. Play to the whistle! After a delay of 3 minutes, the game re-started, but it seemed to have affected the Linby Girls’ concentration and after a number of long through balls had caused problems, the home side scored a fine equaliser after a forty yard run. Despite being caught in possession, a few times, the visitors went in at the interval 3-2 up thanks to another clinical finish from Wetton. “You are better than this!”  the girls were told at half time, and so it proved. The first action of note in the second half was a nasty clash of heads which left Hazel Bowen with the makings of a cracking black eye but the home girl leaving the field with blood pouring from her nose. The girls were having some good possession now and fine work from Kokkinou again set up Wetton to make it 4-2.  For the second time when Linby could have gone on to win comfortably, they allowed the home team back into the game, and at 4-3 the nerves were jangling again. The same striker almost equalised straight away, and there was then a period of end-to-end play with Linby being denied twice in quick succession. A brilliant save then denied Alice Clarke before Abi Wetton stabbed home her fourth to relieve the pressure. Sophie Whitley was brought down after a run towards goal and Abi Wetton, brimming with confidence, struck the post with the resulting free kick from at least half a mile out!  There was just time for Abi to put the seal on the win before the final whistle with her fifth, and Linby’s sixth.

Goals: Abi Wetton 5, Androulla Kokkinou 1.

Under 14's:   Wollaton 8  v   Linby  1                                     POM:  Laura Massey

The under 14’s started their game against Wollaton with only 11players and players playing out of position but started as they finished their last and were in control for the first 10 – 15 minutes.  Jasmine Bear released Rebecca Lane who was just unable to find a shot.  Kayley Shaw then found Megan Smith who was them overwhelmed before she could pass the ball.  Slowly Wollaton clawed their way back into the game and forced Simone Jackson to make a stunning save tipping the ball over the bar.  Wollaton then took the lead when an attacker beat her marker to give Simone no chance from close range.  They soon netted a second 5 minutes before half time to lead at half time 2-0. The second half started the same as the first with the girls on top.  First Rebecca Lane found Rebecca Collis who’s shot went just wide, this was followed by a Jasmin Bear shot that also went wide.  They then won a corner which was swung in by Jasmin; the ball beat everyone and fell to Rachel Eggleshaw who fired into the roof of the net to make it 2-1.  The girls kept up the pressure but were unable to find a way through.  The superior numbers of the Wollaton squad (7 subs) soon began to tell and they increased the lead with the best goal of the day when a cross was met with a brilliant head into the top corner giving Simone no chance at all, they then scored a further 5 goals in the closing 10 minutes.  The Wollaton manger after the game praised the girls for a battling performance.  Player of the match went to Laura Massey for a brilliant defensive performance and making a number of  last ditch saving tackles.

Goals: Rachel Eggleshaw

Under 15's:   Linby 3  v   Radcliffe  4                         POM: Rebekah Duckmanton

A disappointing result for Linby's under 15's as they entertained tough opposition Radcliffe Olympic. The game was end to end stuff  for much of the first period with both teams creating goal scoring chances, Radcliffe denied by top class goal keeping from Katherine Asbury and at the other end, poor finishing and unlucky efforts with Laura Cumberpatch going close with a terrific left foot strike dipping over the keeper to shave the wrong side of the crossbar. Radcliffe finally broke the deadlock as Linbys defence stopped and invited the shot, Linby shell shocked conceded a second goal just before the break. A few changes made saw Linby's Rachael Murray making a guest appearance as their was no center of excellence football this week-end,  she did not disappoint. Radcliffe committed a foul 20 yards out and though everyone knew were the ball was going the opposition could do nothing about it as Rachael hit a lofted shot into the far top corner. Radcliffe are a side who will never lie down and they pilled on the pressure once more and increased their lead. Linby at times were playing good passing football with Suzie Gelson and Rachael Murray linking up well as was Rachael Henson and Bernedette Piper o the opposite flank. Linby pulled a goal back when Rachael Murray twisted and turned her marker to hit a shot into the far top corner leaving the Radcliffe keeper with no chance. Radcliife replied with a sloppy goal and Linby once again had to go chasing the game. With the clock ticking a few positional changes were made, bringing Laura Muir into mid-field which was to release Rachael Murray into the final attacking third. A timely through ball from mid-field found Rachael Murray who had the keeper to beat and cheekily lobbed the advancing keeper for Linby's 3rd and Rachael's hat-trick. A final frantic 5 minutes were to follow but time finally ran out for a final score of Linby 3 v Radcliffe 4. Linby;s player of the match was awarded to Rebekah Duckmanton who had an outstanding game as left back throughout the entire game. Goals: Rachael Murray 3.

Under 16's:   Pegasus  2  v   Linby  1                              POM: Catherine Harvey

Linby's under 16s gave a good account of themselves as they continue to improve, this week they traveled to Pegasus Youth F.C in Sandiacre. Linby fielding 10 players due to 2 players having Everton season tickets (why? LOL) the visitors took the lead almost immediately from the centre kick as Becky Garland unleashed a thunderous shot into the Pegasus net. The remainder of the first period was end to end football with Pegasus chances denied by great defending from the back four of Jaycee Robinson, Jess Bailey, Charlotte Husselbee and a player of the match performance from Catherine Harvey. The second period continued much like the first with Linby almost increasing their lead when Lauri Jo Dennis hit a dipping shot from 18 yards out which went the wrong side of the crossbar. midway through the second period Pegasus broke through the Linby defence and made all things square. The game was looking like all points were to be shared but tired legs and concentration lacking in the final 10 minutes gifted Pegasus with a cruel winner. Excellent team performance, just think what it would have been with a full team and the luxury of substitutes? maybe next time!

Goals: Becky Garland

Under 10's:    Linby  10  v   Ilkeston  1                              POM: Courtney Csomor

Following two away games, we were back at home against Ilkeston and the girls started the first half very slowly with a lot of missed opportunities. However, eventually the ball broke to Sara Duffield, who finished off with her usual accuracy. Then we seemed to go to sleep and gave away a very soft corner which lead to a sloppy goal at the near post for Ilkeston. This annoyed the Linby girls, and fired them back into action, and with some better passing, lead to the second goal for Sara Duffield and the first of the day by Captain Molly Clifford. From then on we started playing more like our old selves, with Vice Captain Chloe Vernon controlling the midfield and Abbie Truman & Paige Housley settling down into their new defensive partnership, following the absence of Ellie Betterridge. Courteney Csomor came on 5 minutes before half time and produced some beautiful runs and link up play, before Sara Duffield scored her third HAT TRICK of the season and Molly Clifford scored her second goal of the game to make the half time score 5 – 1 to Linby. The second half progressed from the way we finished in the first, with a better team ethic and following some excellent runs out of defense by Abbie Truman, saw Sara Duffield bursting down the left wing before crossing the ball for Courteney Csomor to fire home, her first of her FOUR goals. Which with another from Molly Clifford (second hat trick of the season) saw the final score 10 – 1 to Linby and well deserved Player of Match to super sub Courteney Csomor. Also during the second half further substitutions were made with Chelsie Gash coming back on the pitch and showing everyone how much of a valued player of the team she is, and what a great squad of footballer all the girls are all turning out to be. A big thank you goes out to Geoff Truman for referring, and to all of the other parents for their support and assistance with things like the match subs, game play and the first raffle of the season, so thanks again to you all. Goal Scorers: Courteney Csomor 4, Sara Duffield 3, Molly Clifford 3.

Under 11's:    Linby  14  v   Ilkeston  1                                    POM: Amber Denny

After delaying the kick-off for half an hour the Linby girls were revved up and ready to go.  But the delay was well worth the wait because right from the word go the girls showed the crowd and the managers a fantastic display of how football should be played. Right from safe hands Chloe Newcombe in goal making some brilliant saves kept the opposition at bay. Millie Fugler in defence just breeds confidence into the team and had another great game for Linby today. Sarah Bill was working the right flank and was playing out her skin finding the simple pass into space for her team mates to run onto, Sarah always works her socks off for Linby and today was no exception. Courtney Evans added to her tally today getting back to what she does best and that’s scoring goals her speed and vision of where to be to stick the ball in the back of the net is second to none. Amber Denny in the centre of the park was having the game of her life constantly looking for ways in which to break down Ilkeston and feed her team mates the ball. Alice West playing with her usual grit and determination was an absolute joy to watch. Going in at half time eight goals to the good.  The second half saw changes to the line up Paisley Strang picking up where Amber left off, playing simple football to devastating effect. Poppy Shepard at the back cleaning up anything that came her way. Tia Marriott worked hard for her team mates down the left flank and produced a good performance. Lauren Wilson up front using her strength and vision added to her goal tally and kept the Ilkeston defenders on their toe’s. Sianna Bennett played on the right wing produced some great turns and first touches of the ball and credit to Sianna who got injured with a late tackle but bravely got up and carried on. Amy Humphreys came on and got straight into the game making some great tackles and putting all the things she is learning in training into practice showing she is improving with every game. It truly was a great display of football today girls and hats off to Ilkeston how never gave up and never let there heads down but the u11s were simply on fire today, well done to all the girls.

Player of the match was awarded to Amber Denny, Leading by example she led her team brilliantly today and back to her best. Amber (LAMPARD) Denny covered every blade of grass twice today and played some fantastic football, along the way you lifted your own standards to another level today lets take this into the next game and lift it again well done Amber.

Goal scorers: Courtney Evans 4, Amber Denny 3, Lauren Wilson 2, Sianna Bennett 2, Millie Fugler 1, Paisley Strang 1, Sarah Bill 1.

Under 13B:    Linby  2  v   Allestree  3                             POM: Jade Beniston

After an excellent start to the season Linby under 13’s Blue met their match today and were narrowly beaten by Allestree Ladies in a classic end to end battle. Linby were not as quick out of the blocks as in previous weeks and fell to a sucker punch on 3 minutes when an Allestree through ball left the defenders flat footed and allowed an easy goal to give them the lead. Thankfully this sparked Linby into life and from the back Jade Beniston was pushing balls to the midfielders of Charlotte Nolan and Paige Rogers who were linking well with the forward line. From good pressure Lauren Betteridge kept the ball alive up front and when it fell to Ashleigh Cameron she was unlucky to shoot wide. Linby scorned more than one effort that would have got a goal with Eleanor Brooks and Katrina Bloomer having chances.  Towards the end of the half a classic counter move from an Allestree corner resulted in Nolan racing the full length of the pitch to get on the end of a Betteridge pass to equalise. Linby were on the up and minutes later a great goal kick from Severn was met with slick passing between Bloomer and Betteridge who again supplied Nolan to race into the box and put Linby 2-1 up. Pressure continued before the break from Allestree but Severn worked hard to make some good saves and distribute the ball way. The second half had all the makings of a classic and Linby had to work hard as injuries and sick players forced changes but with the likes of Abbi Gale and Brooks on the wings kept possession well to provide chances that should have been taken. The backs of Jodie Norman and Kirsty Peat were solid in their roles today again and keep the pressure on with tackles and passes.  Sensing a goal was needed to seal the game it nearly came following a neat pass from Gabi Oxley to Cameron but was forced wide as she attempted a strike. The telling moments then came as legs tired and a bit of concentration wavered as twice Allestree twice played the same ball over the defence who were powerless to stop runs on goal from the visitors to win the game 3- 2. Goal Scorer: Charlotte Nolan 2

Under 13Y:    Linby 6  v   Ilkeston  1                              POM: Sophie Whitley

This had all the makings of a tough game, with Ilkeston having a 100% record in their first three games and putting fifteen past Mansfield last week. It is to the girls’ immense credit that they saw off the challenge of the visitors. After giving away a soft goal to go behind in the first half they went on to produce what coach Whitley described as probably the best game he had seen them play. Ilkeston were first on the attack, before Shannon Garlick went close. It soon became apparent that the visitors were a well-disciplined side, marking tightly and quick in the tackle. Up front they had powerful forwards capable of strongly challenging for through balls. Gradually though, the Linby girls passing and determination began to reap rewards, with chances for Androulla Kokkinou and Abi Wetton, playing up front together again. Anna Howarth and Shannon were also linking up well down the left so it was against the run of play that Ilkeston took the lead after a poor clearance from keeper Eleni Gospel was seized on and slotted home. Heads did not drop however, and almost immediately Androulla went close at the other end, and from the resulting corner the visitors conceded an own goal in a six-yard box melee. It was no more than Linby deserved and as Alice Clarke and Sophie Whitley started to gain control of the midfield the Linby girls forced a series of corners and were unfortunate not to have more to show for their efforts at half time. With both sides up for the win at the start of the second half it was Linby who went closest first with Abi finally getting some of her trademark power behind a shot to force the keeper into an excellent save, then hitting a free-kick into the side netting. The game was developing into the same pattern as the first half with Linby playing the better football but Ilkeston still looking capable of producing something with their power. Deservedly Linby went in front 10 minutes in, as Androulla’s shot was well saved but Abi was there to poke home. Linby were having the best of it now but needed another goal to make sure. Sophie Whitley was denied by another good save, before Abi gave the keeper no chance with a shot high into the net. This was the platform the girls needed to go on and make their class tell, and Abi scored again from a delightful long through ball from the ever enthusiastic Tammi Heathcote. At 4 - 1 there was no way back for Ilkeston and as their heads began to drop Katie Abrahams  popped up to coolly slot in number five. Alex Francis went close, Androulla blasted into the side netting and Tammi shot wide as the Linby girls rampaged forward. It was a sign of the girls dominance that after one catch in the first five minutes of the second half, Linby keeper Eleni did not touch the ball again! When the Ilkeston attack did venture over the halfway line they were either stopped by Kirsty Wilkins or outpaced and thoroughly demoralised by Serena Mason. In the last couple of minutes Tammi went close before Katie rounded things off with a sixth. Special mention for converted keeper Kate Marriott, who had a solid game and took some excellent corners in the second half. Goal Scorers: Own goal, Abi Wetton 3, Katie Abrahams 2.

Under 14's:   Linby  3  v   Arnold  8                                   POM: Rebecca Lane

The under 14’s were again playing with 10 players and no regular goal keeper played some brilliant football before going down 8-3 to Arnold Town Blue.  Arnold was soon on the attack only to be denied a goal within the first 5 minutes due a corner going out of play.  The soon made amends by taking a two goal lead within the first 10 minutes.  This sparked a comeback by the girls, in their first attack Jasmin Bear crossed from the right and found an unmarked Megan Smith who finished making the score 1-2.  This gave the girls heart and soon had the Arnold defence all over the place when Jasmin Bear found Rebecca Collis whose shot went wide, however, the scores were soon level when the Arnold keeper dropped the ball for Rachel Eggleshaw to force the ball over the line from close range.  With the bit between their teeth they took the game to Arnold and pegged them back.  Arnold then launched an attack, and with the Linby defence failing to clear they found the back of the net to make it 2-3, this was soon followed by another goal to make it 2-4 at half time. The girls started the second half defending, but were soon able to launch an attack when Kayley Shaw cleared up field and found Rebecca Lane, who turned inside to find Jasmin, her pass found Rebecca Collis who was foiled by a last ditch tackle.  With the girls now playing some wonderful football they enjoyed their best part of the game.  Laura Massey the found Rebecca Lane whose perfect pass released Rachel Eggleshaw, Rachel beat her marker and finished coolly into the far corner to make it 3-4.  With the defence in fine form and stand in goal keeper Bethany Tennant outstanding Arnold were being held.  But again for the second week, the opposition’s superior numbers made it count and Arnold ran in another 4 goals in the last 15 minutes to make the final score 3-8.  Again with the ability to change players this could have been a different game with the girls playing some brilliant one touch football and holding their own for long periods of the game.  Player of the match went to Rebecca Lane, who was all over the field from defence to attack.  Special thanks to Bethany Tennant who volunteered to play in goal and who was in outstanding playing in a position that she is not used to. Goal Scorers: Megan Smith 1, Rachel Eggleshaw 2.

Under 15's:  Pelican  1  v   Linby  2                                     POM: Charlotte Clarke

Linby's under 15's bounced back from the disappointing result last week to beat a physical and tough opposition in Pelican F.C. The first period saw the game sway one way then the other as both sides had goal scoring chances, Pelican denied by a top class save from keeper Katherine Asbury and Linby's best chance from a penalty which was hit wide. Pelican threatened and finally took the lead with a through ball hit to their pacey striker who out ran Linby's defence to slot the ball around the keeper. Linby battled hard and maintained a high tempo by pressing the ball at every opportunity and shaded the first period with their chances and possession but unfortunately nothing to show for it. The second half was a different story as within the first 6 minutes Linby's Laura Muir ran the ball forward onto the edge of the Pelican box and hit a wonderful lofted shot into the top corner. Linby did not look back and began to play quality football typified in midfield by Laura Muir, Rachael Henson and Nicole Shortland in attack. In defence Linby's back four looked strong and in control with Jade Gash playing right back in place of the injured Amira Fanous, with Emma Crump and Chloe Richards playing centre halfs and Rebekah Duckmanton left back. Captain Suzie Gelson battled for every ball and was instrumental in Linby going forward. Linby secured the three points when striker Charlotte Clarke juggled the ball forward on her head over the Pelican defender for the ball to drop to her feet and confidentially slotted the ball into the far bottom corner. A good team performance and a valuable 3 points with the player of the match being awarded to Charlotte Clarke who worked tirelessly throughout.

Goal Scorer: Laura Muir 1, Charlotte Clarke 1.

Under 16's:   Linby  0   v   Retford  6                                         POM: Sophie Cook

Having seen only recent scores and not the full picture a well-organised Retford side turned up at Church Lane today expecting an easy game. I am pleased to say that after a tough evenly matched first half they were given somewhat of a rude awakening by the continued improvement of the Linby under 16 girls. Each and every player stuck to their task with rugged determination and Linby were unlucky to go into the break 2 nil down with goalkeeper Tanya Hardy making good saves when required, behind a defence well organised by Charlotte Husselbee,  Both full backs Catherine "orange boots" Harvey and Jaycee "pedigree" Robinson working hard again. Linby were unlucky going forward on a number of occasions with the final ball going astray and did not test the Retford keeper as we would have hoped. The second half got off to a bad start with Linby caught napping just after the break and Retford scored two quick goals to double their tally, the first time all season we have given goals away “for free”. However as requested Linby did not let their heads drop and produced some of their best passing football of the season with Jess Bailey and Lauri Jo Dennis  battling well in the centre of midfield. In search of a goal Linby went to a 4 - 3 - 3 formation this produced lots of good attacks particularly down the right with some great passing between Jaycee Robinson, Louise Rivett and Charlotte Turner (“Pedigree”, “Cahill” and “Blondie” ) resulting in the Retford goal keeper having to make some excellent saves from Kitty Oldham, Charlotte Turner and Becky Garland. Further changes in search of that goal saw the manager stretch the defence further. This tactical error saw the opposition score two good goals from quick breaks as Linby tired. (It will be very interesting to see how we get on when we have enough players to make substitutions and changes and can keep going to the end) Despite this Linby worked hard to the end, no one more so than player of the match Sophie Cook who despite a knock chased everything, battled hard and gave nothing away “for free” (for the second week running Jaycee "Pedigree" Robinson coming a very close second). The team was set different targets today and despite the result these targets were met by each individual and the team continues to improve. Those who read only the scores will hopefully be in for the same surprise as Retford when they come up against an ever-improving Linby side. Well played Girls keep it up.

Seniors:  Linby  3  v   Welbeck  10                                        POM: Zoe Herbert

Linby took on the might of Welbeck, as they came to Church Lane unbeaten so far in the league. Linby started off their usual self, strong and defiant from the back, lead by Della Dickinson, captain for today's match, coming under heavy fire early on but not budging an inch!! Linby opened up the best strike on goal when Zoe Herbert struck the cross bar from out side of the 18 yard box. However Welbecks players out wide had very good burst of speed and where able to get round the defence to open the scoring 1 - 0. Linby picked them self up and started to create chances, excellent link up play with Courtney Walters and Zoe Herbert put their defence under pressure. the hard work was paid off when a throw in lead to Fern Lockyer playing a low whipped cross in the box, which saw Courtney get on the end of it 1 - 1.
Just when we thought that Linby where going to have a good run of their own Welbecks wings attacked again opening the defence once again to score there second 2 - 1 The half was even between the two teams and Leia Smithson even the score when some good pressure in the final third saw Leia take on one or two players then slot it in the back of the net 2 - 2. Linby kept on the pressure and could have taken the lead a couple of times then an un pressured ball on the edge of Linby's box saw a well taken goal from Welbeck to put then back in the lead 3 - 2 going in to half time. Early substitution saw Rebecca Brooks come on in for Megan Davies who came off ( with injury) and saw Fern Lockyer drop back in defence. Welbeck came out with all guns blazing and they started to turn the screw on the defence putting in there 4, 5 and 6 goals in quick succession!! 6 - 2 Goal keeper Laura Allcock was struggling with an early injury in the first half which saw her find it hard to come off her line quick enough! Laura Knight replaced Fern pushing Rachel Radford back in to defence to win balls like she was in the centre of the park. When goal 7 an 8 went in against us, Laura called it time so it left Rebecca Brooks to play the hero and don the goal keeper top and gloves. 8 - 2 Robyn Sewell replaced the injured keeper. For the next 20 minutes of the game Linby held there own and showed some good spells then Zoe Herbert slotted in the goal of the season, so far, from out side the 18 yard box a beautiful curling shot right into the top right hand corner worthy of of goal of the month on match of the day ( if only we recorded it!!!).
Linby looked like they where going to pull the lead back creating more openings but were unable to get on the end of them. Robyn made a menace of herself up front with her pace and quick feet but was unable to break them down any more. Welbeck then twisted the knife deeper by finishing us off with there 9th and 10th goal Linby where out of time for any more comebacks for the day they all gave 100% some team is going to be on the end of a Linby on slaught very soon. final score 10 - 3 Player of the match went to Zoe Herbert Well played all. Goal Scorers: Leia Smithson 1, Courtney Walters 1, Zoe Herbert 1. <
