Despite the score line Linby played some good football

A
game that Linby felt they were good for 3 points. Linby took the lead and remained
in the lead until the last few dying minutes when Lenton found the equaliser.
Linby were unlucky having a goal disallowed for offside? and also Lenton's
equaliser was reported to be kicked from the grasps of the keeper. An excellent
Linby team performance, we look forward to the return fixture.

A score line that
flatters the home side. The game started in the dark and without linesman, 2
minutes into the game the referee awarded Steel City a goal though the ball did
not cross the line? After protesting for a while the referee agreed to halt the
game until the floodlights were switched on but still refused to play with
linesman. The game became a farce as there were a number of times players were
offside but the referee failed to keep up with play. Linby were beaten by the
better side but not by 9 goals.

POM: Kaitlin O'Dowd
The
opening score line by no way gives the true picture of the first game for the
newly formed under 10’s team. The team started with a strong run from Isabella
Anderson, who was only denied the opening goal by the opposing goalkeeper. Leah
O’Dowd was called into action shortly after that with a great save to keep the
score level. Kaitlin O’Dowd was strong and determined whether in defence or
attack, chasing and intercepting any ball that came across her path. Olivia
Bowen had several chances on goal, while Hannah Brown and Erin Gale were strong
in defence with help from Nicole Christian. However it was West Bridgeford who
scored the first goal with a break away move. But Linby didn’t stop trying
with Olivia, Isabella and Kaitlin all having good chances on goal. West
Bridgeford scored again but Linby fought back with a strong run from Erin
passing the ball for Olivia to score. Leah made some great saves to keep Linby
in the game but a very tired Linby side saw two more goals go in before full
time. The girl’s commitment and determination showed they can work as a team,
with each player never giving up. A very positive start to the season. Well done
Girls.

11s: Linby 1 v Radcliffe 5
POM: Daisy Dignum
The
first game of the season saw Linby take on Radcliffe on a beautiful sunny day.
Keeper
Chloe Benniston was soon in action as Radcliffe started brightly, Caitlin
Townsend and Daisy Dignum were kept busy at the back but stood strong for 20
minutes until Radciffe took a deserved lead. Jaime Clifford and Chloe Peat in
midfield battled well but had to defend more than set up attacks, Georgie and
Chloe Thorn Miles did their best up front but Linby couldn’t string enough
passes together to really threaten the Radcliffe keeper. Keeper Chloe kept Linby
in the game with some excellent saves while Daisy continued her form from last
year, battling for every ball and never giving an inch.
Hannah
Elson and Hollie Bidwell made their Linby debuts today and tried to get into the
game but a determined Radcliffe never let Linby settle. Radcliffe made it 2-0
before half time to leave Linby with a fight on their hands.
The
second half saw Jaime drop back into defence allowing Caitlin to team up with
Chloe Peat in the middle. Some great play by these two saw Georgie score
Linby’s only goal and the team start to play together. Another great attack,
with Linby working the ball from the back saw a great cross from Chloe Peat just
glance off Georgies head to go wide. Caitlin continued to run the ball at every
opportunity but Radcliffe hit back and scored another 3 goals while Linby again
lost their concentration.
A
good individual display by the team but today they lacked team work and never
got their passing game going.
Player
of the match went to Daisy Dignum who had a great game at the back, battling
well and showing some skillful touches on the ball. Goal:

12s: Linby 1 v Robin
Hood 1 POM:
Molly Slater & Chloe Vernon
A
disappointing draw is how I would describe this as Linby deserved so much more!
However credit to Robin Hood Colts who battled and fought for every ball.
Linby started the game fairly
quietly but could easily have been 2 or 3 up in the first 10 minutes. Molly
Slater had very little to in goal but big thanks to both Molly and Chloe Vernon
for going in goal.
Linby eventually took the lead on
20 minutes when Elizabeth Williams latched on to a rebound from a shot from
Abbie Truman and coolly slotted home to mark an excellent first game for the
club!
Abbie and Jena Iliffe played well
together at the back with Courtney Csomor running the game from her new central
midfield role.
Before half time Linby also blooded 2 other debutants, Shay Richardson and Megan
Sugarman who both coped very well!
The second half continued to
frustrate the home team as they worked good opportunities and played some
quality football only to be denied by the Robin Hood Keeper and some lack of
quality in front of goal. Unfortunately, they paid the price when a long ball
was converted by Colts.
Paige Housley and Jodie Blacknell
worked well in midfield and their efforts and work rate should have been enough
to earn Linby all the points but it was not to be!

POM: Lauren Wilson
Having
played at a higher age group last season and finishing a fantastic third, Linby
have been promoted this season to the Notts Girls and Ladies League first
division and are now playing in their normal age range. Linby started their
league campaign against Arnold Town having had a busy week of arranged
friendlies. Linby played against Rainworth Tigers and Calverton Miners Welfare
in the passed week, scoring 29 goals without any reply. Having found the magic
formula at the end of last season Paul and Lee continued with their 4 - 4 - 2
system starting with the following line up.
Katie Haligan started in goal for the absent Ellie Brooke. Shannon Bird making
her debut at right back with Amy Humphries starting on the left leaving the
physical pairing of Lauren Wilson and Sarah Bill in the centre of defence.
Millie-Rae Vardy started the game on the right side of midfield, Zoe Hopewell on
the left with Jessica Wibberley and Amber Denny (Captain) in the centre leaving
the little and large pairing of Sianna Bennett and returning Courtney Evans up
front. This left last season sportswomen of the year, Sophie Wardle, Megan
Colebrook and Emma Morrell on the bench itching to get on. Having seen the girls
play in the recent friendlies you'd have thought Linby would have looked to have
dominated this game from the first whistle, but you are wrong. Linby appeared to
be consumed with nerves and struggled to get their passing game going on a very
small pitch. The pitch did not help Linby as the centre of the park was heavily
congested making it difficult for the cultured duo of Amber and Jess to spray
the ball out wide to Zoe and Millie-Rae, yet I also think you have to give
credit to the Arnold girls who did not give the creative players in the Linby
side, time on the ball. That said, Linby continued to battle even though their
flowing football was faltering. Linby's first goal came from a hopeful ball out
of the back. Shannon did well to intercept a pass and punted the ball down
field. The Arnold defender miss read the flight of the ball as it dropped over
her head and invitingly into the path of Sianna. With her first touch of the
game Sianna moved the ball out of her feet before shooting across the keeper
from a narrow angle and finding the far corner of the Arnold net 1-0. Linby's
second goal was another well taken finish. Sianna was allowed time on the edge
of the 18 yard box and hit her shot against the post which fell invitingly to
Courtney, who's predatory instincts once again kicked in. With her first touch
she unleashed a powerful shot with her left peg which the goalkeeper could not
handle. 2-0. It was 3-0 shortly after. Amber had now began to find her touch to
go with her work rate. She beat her player on the right, pulled the ball back to
the edge of the box and Sianna hit the ball first time. The keeper failed to read
the spin on the ball and could only watch as it rolled over the line. Arnold's
goal eventually came towards the end of the first half and ironically was scored
by an old Linby favourite, Paisley. The Linby defence failed to clear their
lines from a corner allowing Paisley to slam the ball home from close range,
3-1. Linby went into the half time break ahead but were not playing anywhere
near their best. Having received the hairdryer treatment from the management,
the girls started the second half a lot more positively. Amy had now been
replaced by Emma at left back but the rest of the side remained the same. Linby
started the second period looking like a different side. The girls looked more
relaxed and began to control the play through midfield. Teams always look more
confident when they have faith in their back line and Linby defence held strong
through out the second half, being well marshaled by Lauren with Katie having an
outstanding game as stand in keeper. Katie looked as though she has always been
a keeper and her kicking was fantastic both out of her hands and on the deck. A
great bit of football down linby's left brought them their fourth of the match.
Courtney's good exchange of passing allowed her to swing a dangerous ball into
the box with her left foot. As the Arnold defence stood watching the ball
Millie-Rae reacted quickest by getting across the front of her defender to
volley the ball high into the Arnold goal, 4-1. As the Arnold girls tired Linby
looked more and more dangerous. Jess was playing fantastic in the holding
midfield roll with Zoe now playing in a more forward position having swapped
with Courtney. Yet it was Zoe who was to be replaced next by Megan, giving the
Linby attack fresh legs and adding more pace in place of the 'Tevez' style play
of Zoe (that's a compliment Zoe). Amber, now with more time and space found the
feet of Sianna on the edge of the Arnold penalty area. Sianna did one of her
crazy leg turns to make her self space for a shot before unleashing a pile
driver that nearly burst the Arnold net, great goal, 5-1. A long throw by
Shannon paved the way for Linby's 6th. The throw was helped on by Millie-Rae and
eagerly chased by Sianna who showed good composure to place the ball passed the
keeper once inside the Arnold penalty area, 6-1. Amber, having felt the effects
of 'man flu' eventually gave way for Sohie who was soon making her presence felt
by putting in some very good tackles. Linby's final goal was scored near to the
end of the game. A 'big boot' into the penalty area was again brought down by
Sianna. Sianna feigned to shot, buying her some space to roll the ball into the
corner of the goal, 7-1. Arnold Town had a good go at mixing things up with the
Linby girls and for 35 minutes made life difficult for Linby to play their
attractive football. That said, Linby did improve in the second half and began
to looked very dangerous as they battled through. It has always been the sign of
s good team when they can still win convincingly when they aren't at their best,
well done girls.Goal scorers Sianna - 5, Courtney - 1, Millie-Rae - 1.

On a hot energy sapping day, the 11 girls of the
Under 15's bravely fought back from a goal down to record a comprehensive win
in their first game at their new Ravenshead home. The opening exchanges were
fairly even with both sides creating half chances, but as the game progressed
Linby began to turn the screw and were unlucky as Kate Marriott hit the bar
and Rosie Bingley also went close. It was against the run of play when
Mansfield took the lead as Serena Mason was caught in a "tangle of
legs" leaving the Mansfield striker to run on and confidently slot the
ball past a stranded Eleni Gospel. Bex Hill had a run and shot before Rosie
broke away and slotted the ball home with aplomb to deservedly level things
for Linby. The Linby girls fitness showed in the second half as they mounted
wave after wave of attacks with their own defence and keeper holding firm when
called upon. Kate had already shot across the face of goal before Jodie
Shatliff put a ball through for Abi Wetton who made no mistake to put
Linby ahead. Abi's second was more spectacular as she curled one in from
distance leaving the keeper with no hope of reaching it. Although Linby
now had a two goal cushion Mansfield did not give up, but as the heat and
rock hard pitch began to take its toll, the Linby girls finished much the
stronger and showed that they could compete with the physical, as well as the
skilfull side of the game. Jodie put the icing on the cake with a fourth after
being the first to react to a goalmouth melee after good approach play by Alex
Francis. All in all a good workout and a deserved win for the girls, who
displayed courage, determination, skill and brilliant team spirit to notch
three points. Good also to see the injured Hazel Bowen turn out to support her
team-mates. Well done to all of you!

We started brightly and could of been 3 goals
up in the first 10mins as it was we scored only 1 with Leighanne Powles
scoring our first goal of the season after a nice through ball
from Laura "LJ" Cumberpatch but we switched off and within
2mins Keyworth were back on level terms after the ball got caught between our Keeper
and the Keyworth forward and she poked the ball in to the net. This woke us up
and again we dominated and after a terrific corner from Jasmin Bear,
Beth Wilcockson shot was parried by the keeper but Chloe Linney
scrambled the ball home to make it 1-2 to us. We continued to press and could
have been well in front but the Keyworth keeper made some good saves and
some wayward shooting the score was 1-2 at half time. The second
half started and we didn't, Keyworth came flying at us and if not for some
last ditch defending we would of found our self's back level or going
behind, but we didn't and after a good shot by Beth Wilcockson and equally a
good stop by the Keyworth keeper we won a corner and again Jaz took it
and scored. Again we dominated and could have scored a hat full, with
10mins to go we won another corner and again Chloe was there to scramble the
ball home to make it 1- 4.

Again another
score line that doesn't reflect the entire game as Linby throughout battled and
had good spells of possession. Linby started well frustrating Rise park with
some excellent defending and hitting the visitors on the counter. The game was
evenly contested and it wasn't until the 35th minute when Rise Park opened the
scoring with a scrappy goal from a corner, there second came from an unfortunate
clearance which rebounded off a Linby player into the path of the Rise Park
striker. There 3rd was a good goal just before the break. The second period saw
Linby start well yet again and playing with more of an attacking feel as player
of the match Leia Smithson started to cause Rise Park a few problems. Though
Rise Park went on to score a further 4 goals Linbys young squad can take heart
on a much improved performance on there mid week game and with a little fine
tuning it wont be long before they are contesting for points..

Under 9’s started there first game of the season in the Notts Girls and Ladies
League away to Sherwood.
The girls where in high spirits, they battled hard from the first kick of
the ball, they excelled all expectations playing with determination and
stringing passes together also making clear shots on goal, only to be denied for
there efforts. Linby camped in the Sherwood half, winning attacks and were very
unlucky on numerous occasions. Linby keeper Jessica Thompson took care of
Sherwood efforts keeping her team in the game. Player of the Match Tansy
Cresswell had a really strong game in defence clearing Sherwood’s attacks with
no problem; she battled hard and has a wicked right foot, making great
clearances. Mia Ayees and Elena Gale played there role moving forward covering
every angle.
Casey Bailey and Siobhan Simms kept the tempo of the game flowing using
space and skilful play twisting and turning the opposition, Olivia Anderson kept
her position well playing striker, also relief goal keeper in the second half.
Jade Tilford had fantastic runs towards goal, keeping her eye on the ball only
to be pushed off the ball by tough opposition. Well done girls this was an
excellent start to the season.

The
hardest thing to accept about today result has to be the fact that although the
team were behind from very early on their battling spirit and determination
didn’t gain them any reward. Right from the kick off it was obvious that today
was not going to go our way. The efforts of Leah in goal kept the hope alive.
Ruth, Hollie and Hannah gave their all in defence while Kaitlin, Isabella, Erin,
Nicole and Olivia all sent time on the pitch playing an important role within
midfield and up front but the experience of a team that had players from last
seasons U10’s proved to be too great for the girls. A
great effort from all the girls saw smiles on the faces of players, parents and
manager and a great deal of hope for the future games. I am so proud of you all.

11s: Derby White 2
v Linby 1
POM: Jaimie Clifford
Linby
took on Derby white in their second league outing and came away without any
points but with a lot of pride in an improved performance. Both teams started
brightly setting an attacking tone for the rest of the match. Keeper Chloe
Benniston was soon in action as Derby shot at every opportunity, fortunately
mostly wide. Georgie Boyce had Linby’s first attempt, a snap shot from an
acute angle. Jaime Clifford and Chloe Peat were kept busy at the back but both
stood strong as Derby pushed Linby looking for the first goal.
Caitlin Townsend
and Daisy Dignum had to battle hard in midfield, helped by Georgie.
Chloe Cope played
well up front keeping the Derby defenders busy with some good running. Hannah
Elson was brought on midway through the half and worked well to set Georgie up
but a good save from the Derby keeper kept the score down.
Chloe Thorn Miles then came on and again played well in the middle but
couldn’t stop Derby pushing forward. Derby pinned Linby into their own half
for the remainder of the first half but couldn’t find a way past the Linby
defence. Keeper Chloe could only push a shot towards her goal line but Chloe
Peat saved the goal by clearing the ball from off the goal line when everyone
else had thought it had gone in, playing to the whistle as should both teams.
The second half saw
Linby play a little better with some good link up play and pass and move
combinations but a quick turn of speed from Derby saw them turn defence into
attack and score the first goal. Derby continued to push Linby forcing some good
saves from keeper Chloe and a fine defensive display by Jaime. Derby’s second
goal was a great shot that for once was on target. Linby now had to dig deep and
this is what they did. While Daisy and Jaime kept the attackers at bay Chloe
Peat and Caitlin started to build attacks with Georgie putting in a great amount
of work, testing the keeper as best she could. Hannah also had a better game
chasing down balls and getting more involved in the middle of the park. Chloe
Cope came on and started to push up the wings, working well and looking for the
penalty area. Linby’s goal came from a great in swinging free kick from Chloe
Peat, crashing in from the underside of the cross bar. Linby couldn’t find
that second goal for what would have been a well deserved point.
Well
done girls, a better second game performance with periods of good play. Well
done Caitlin for taking the hard knocks for the team. Player of the match went
to Jaime Clifford for a great defensive display of football, making the tackles
when needed and pushing forward to
good effect. Goal: Chloe Peat

12s: Westbridgford 1
v Linby 5
POM; Courtney Csomor
Linby
recovered from last weeks disappointing home draw by recording their first
league victory of the season built on an excellent first half performance. After
an evenly balanced opening ten minutes Linby gradually began to dominate and
force their hosts Westbridgford back into their own half. The first goal came
from a devastating run by Courtney Csomor whose skill and pace took her past two
defenders before she unleashed an unstoppable shot inside the far post. With
Abbie Truman & Shay Richardson stiffling West Bridgford’s attacks Linby
became irrepressible and it was only a matter of time before they increased
their lead. This time it was a well crafted move down the right which saw Jena
Lliffe,s cross drilled home by Lizzie Williams. Minutes later Courtney Csomer
added her second goal before rounding off an excellent first half display by
turning provider for Lizzie Williams to notch her second from close range. The
final action of the half saw Chloe Vernon called into action as she turned a
goal bound effort onto the post to complete a very competent first half display
in goal. After the break Courtney Csomor took over in goal with Chloe Vernon
switching to centre midfield. Whilst Molly Slater came on in defence, with Jodie
Blacknell taking up the left midfield position. West Bridgford came out much
more determined in the second period and Molly Slater and Abbie Truman were
forced into several last ditch tackles, to keep them at bay. However Linby ended
any chance of a West Bridgford fight back with 15 minutes remaining with a great
team goal. Jodie Blacknell’s tenacity on the left paid off when she won the
ball and fed it back to Abbie Truman, who in turn picked out Chloe Vernon with a
pin point pass. Chloe showed off her excellent vision & passing skills to
slide the ball through for Paige Housley, who rounded off an excellent move with
a clinical finish. West Bridgford were finally rewarded for their improved
second half performance when Heather Keith lobbed the ball home from long range
after a poor clearance. All in all this was a good squad performance with every
player making a valuable contribution, which made the player of the match a
difficult decision. However Courtney Csomor just edged it with an excellent
first half performance on the left wing and a second half in goal that kept the
crowd entertained!!

POM: Millie Rae Vardy
Linby
under 13's entertained a big and useful Nottingham Untied team today at Church
Lane, Linby. Playing conditions were perfect with Linby again opting for a 4-4-2
against Nottingham's 3-5-2 in an attempt to compact the midfield. Elle Brooke
returned in goal today with the trusted back four of Shannon Bird, Lauren
Wilson, Sarah Bill and Amy Humphries playing behind the midfield of Zoe
Hopewell, Amber Denny (c), Jessica Wibberley and Millie-Rae Vardy leaving Sianna
Bennett and Courtney Evans up top. Linby began the game looking bright from the
first whistle. Courtney Evans came close after turning her marker inside out on
the edge of the box before seeing her effort well saved by the Nottingham
goalkeeper. From the early stages Amber Denny and Jessica Wibberley had gained
control of the midfield and were linking up well with Zoe Hopewell and
Millie-Rae Vardy on both flanks. Amber played out of her skin today, her range
of passing was fantastic and when she's in this sort of form she's unplayable,
particularly when you have a holding midfield player like Jess that allows her
to go and play. The first goal started from Ambers vision to release Zoe on the
right wing, with her first touch Zoe played the ball in behind the Nottingham
defence for Sianna to run onto to make no mistake by rolling the ball into the
bottom corner, 1-0. The second goal also came about by playing some good flowing
football. Amy played the ball into Millie-Rae who went on one of her runs down
the left wing, beating 3 players before pulling the ball back to the edge of the
18 yard box to the feet of Amber. Amber was allowed to take a couple of touches
before unleashing one of her trade mark shots which the keeper couldn't hold,
2-0. Nottingham United had now decided to compete with Linby but found the going
difficult against a well organised Linby defence. Lauren and Sarah continued to
challenge hard and fair with Shannon and Amy always covering their centre
pairing and making themselves available for the quick throw out from Elle, who's
handling and decision making was faultless during the first half. The third goal
was typical of how Linby are playing. Amber, again was allowed to pick her pass.
She played a lovely ball down the side of the centre back and into the path of
Sianna. Sianna managed to out pace her marker before prodding the ball home
passed the advancing keeper, 3-0. The last goal of the first half was again
scored by Linby and saw Sianna collect her second hat trick in as many games. A
short corner was quickly worked between Amber and Jess. Amber again was given
time to deliver a perfectly flighted cross onto the right boot of Sianna which
was volleyed home into the roof of the net from 6 yard, 4-0. Half time saw the
first change of the game for Linby, Katie Haligan came on at left back for the
impressive Amy and I can imagine that the half time talk by Paul and Lee was
'more of the same'. Linby's confidence was now growing as Courtney dropped a
little deeper into midfield and began to help Amber drive the team forward. It
was these two players that passed their way around the Nottingham team before
picking Sianna out inside the 18 yard box to loop her shot over the stranded
keeper, 5-0. Emma Morrell was now introduced into the action in the place of the
industrious Zoe. Emma immediately became involved in the game with some
brilliant defensive tackles stopping any attacks down the Nottingham right wing.
Another great passing move by the Linby girls saw Linby score their sixth of the
game. Jess picked up a loose ball in the centre of the park and fed it into
Sianna's feet. With her back to the goal Sianna was able to hold the ball up
before rolling it back for Millie-Rae to run onto. Millie-Rae showed her quality
by moving the ball passed her defender before firing across the goalie into the
far corner of the goal, 6-0. To be fair to Nottingham United they never stopped
playing and began to look more threatening. This was proven when the Nottingham
United left wing drifted in from the flank and drilled a hard shot high into the
Linby net, 6-1. Linby responded immediately, Amber again the provider played the
ball from inside her own half over the Nottingham back line for Sianna to chase
after. Sianna was held up inside the 18 yard box but managed turn and blast her
shot into the top left corner of the net, 7-1. Still Nottingham failed to be
beaten. They launched a hopeful ball into the Linby box which couldn't be
cleared and eventually fell to the feet of the Nottingham striker who found the
back of the Linby goal, 7-2. Paul and Lee made another change by bringing
debutant Leah Booth into the fray in place of Shannon who had another fantastic
game in the Linby shirt. Emma moved to left back and Leah fitted in on the left
flank. Linby continued to feed the ball out to Millie-Rae who was beating her
marker with ease and playing some brilliant balls into the box causing the
Nottingham defence a real headache. I've said it before and I'll say it again.
When Millie-Rae Vardy wants to show people how good she can be she is a pleasure
to come and watch as she is a very dangerous and skillful player. Linby's final
goal of the game was scored by Sophie Wardle who had replaced Courtney. Courtney
worked tirelessly today for her team mates. Her movement today allowed her
striking partner more space whilst dragging the Nottingham defence into area's
that defenders don't won't to go. Jess hit a free kick from 20 yards out which
was driven hard and low towards goal. The shot was helped into the back of the
net by the out stretched boot of Sophie, great finish, 8-2. This sparked a good
fight back by Nottingham as they scored two more goals before the end of the
game leaving the final score 8-4. Today's game was a really good advert for the
girls game, with some very good players standing out from both sides. That said,
when Linby are in this type of form they are absolutely brilliant. Well done
girls, a fantastic result. A special mention needs to go to the 14 year old
referee who controlled the game well above his years.

What
a difference 7 days can make. Today’s team was unrecognisable from the
tentative crew in the Arnold game, with confident passing and players
challenging for every ball. Such confidence begins from the back, and with Becca
Collingwood displaying a command of her box, the defensive duties could begin
further up the pitch than last week. Central control was Ellen 'Mazza' Marriott
and Jade Benniston – the former taking up the calm back-stop positions, the
latter picking up balls in defence and turning them into active attacks. Sammy
Barlow opened the scoring after 8 minutes, having threatened within 3. This
time, having been put through by a header from Katrina Bloomer, she finished by
placing the ball sweetly across the goal. The defensive prowess allowed the
wingbacks to make their marks in the game. Abbie Gales work in the tackle, and
Sophie Beldham's quiet assurance allowing both girls to push over the halfway
line time and again to create attacking chances. The second goal was Charley
McLaren's … a brief appearance which saw her chasing a bouncing ball, lobbing
the keeper, and rising above the crowd to head the falling ball home. The
midfield belonged to Lauren Betteridge & Elle Croucher. Every ball was
fought for; crunching tackles from Elle shaking the opposition to the core, and
Lauren building play to launch the forwards into opportunities. Eleanor Brookes
worked tirelessly on the right, and this work allowed Kirsty Peat to open her
account now; latching onto a through ball from the right wing to take the count
to 3-0 at half-time. The second period opened Leah Colligwood moving onto the
left hand wing and using her speed to upset the Netherfield defence. Linking
with Kirsty in 1-2s around the Netherfield box, and with further pressure coming
from Kat the likelihood of more goals was growing. Within minutes this pressure
saw Kirsty adding to her total from the top of the penalty area, driving the
ball into the bottom right hand side of the goal. The 5th goal came soon after
with Lauren picking up the ball near the centre spot. A driving run saw the ball
laid right to Kat, then left to Kirsty whose shot rebounded from the crossbar. A
smart pick-up in the box by Gabi Oxley and the ball was nestling behind the line
again. Netherfield took advantage of some slack defensive duties as a
corner was headed back to the taker, and the second cross was met and scored.
Sammy made her second dent on the score sheet, with Lauren again starting the
move. This time the pass was to Elle whose lay-off was picked up in the box and
converted for 6-1. With 2 minutes on the clock to go Kirsty returned from a
breather to complete her hat-trick, and gain the Player of the match award for
her all-round contribution to the day. This was a much improved performance –
maybe not yet vintage, but with definite signs for the future.

Once again Linby started with a bare 11 players as
knocks from last week took their toll, but again they emerged victorious
with an even better performance to record an awesome 9 0 victory over a plucky
Ilkeston team, whilst proudly sporting their new sponsored kit for the
first time thanks to John Dobb Developments. There
were only two minutes on the clock when Sophie Whitley opened the scoring,
confidently putting away an angled shot. The same player was unlucky to hit
the post shortly afterwards when set up by Rosie Bingley. It was almost 10
minutes before Ilkeston got into their opposition's half, but Linby almost
immediately doubled their advantage when a corner from Abi Wetton evaded the
keeper's grasp and found its way into the net. Abi then repeated her effort
from last week and curled in an unstoppable shot from distance which gave the
Ilkeston keeper no chance. With the pressure off, the Linby girls gave an
impressive demonstration of passing football with some brilliant movement off
the ball and after Rosie had put an effort wide, Sophie scored her second with
a beautiful curler. A rare Ilkeston attack was snuffed out by the unflappable
Serena Mason. Numerous chances followed, with the Ilkeston keeper foiling no
less then five clear cut opportunities. After Katie Abrahams slipped a couple
of tackles and narrowly missed, the game understandably slowed a little,
although more chances still came and went, possibly the pick of them being a
shot from the lively Alex Francis after a mazy run down the right.
Half time: 4 0. Though it could have been at
least 9! The second half began a little
tighter with Ilkeston holding a firmer defensive line and creating a couple of
openings of their own. But only six minutes in, Eleni Gospel in the Linby
goal threw out to Molly Abrahams who linked well with Alex to create a chance
which Abi snapped up to claim her hat-trick. Ilkeston refused to give up and
it took an impressive triple save from Eleni to maintain a clean sheet but
this seemed to reawaken the hunger in the Linby girls and Sophie again
went close before Abi calmly laid the ball back to Jodie Shatliff who put an
unstoppable shot into the roof of the net from fully thirty yards out. Sophie
headed a corner just wide and Alex blazed over before a sweet move involving
Rosie and Alex drew applause from the crowd. Again, numerous chances came and
went before Jodie poked in her second and Linby's seventh. As in the first
half, the game slowed but there was still time for a Jubilant Abi to add two
more. Even after the injured Sophie left the field with an injured
knee, there were more opportunities, but the happy Linby girls look forward to
their toughest test so far next week against Lincoln

Linby would not lie down and on the 40th minute Rachael Henson slipped a ball

Simms picked up the ball in midfield and had a solo run at goal and scored her
first goal for her club. Jade Tilford was playing as Linbys loan striker and
with the ball at her feet would run at the Bingham defence. In the second half
Siobhan played in goal and managed to deny efforts

marshaled by Tansy who stood strong assisted by a glittering performance from
both Jessica and Alice Thompson. In the second period Olivia Anderson was called
upon to play as Linby's striker and kept the Bingham defence busy. Strong play from Casey Bailey
saw here run the ball through a swarm of players for a cracking shot making

A
great first win for Linby U11’s built on graft and teamwork. Linby started
brightly with Chloe Peat having the first effort on goal after good passing from
Caitlin Townsend and Georgie Boyce. The Flyers weren’t intimidated though and
keeper Chloe Benniston had to make some fine interceptions to stop the
occasional attack. Jaime Clifford and Daisy Dignum were again solid in defence,
Daisy strong in the tackle and Jaime reading the game very well to stop and set
up Chloe Peat and Georgie down the wings. Caitlin started to link up well with
the two wide players while Chloe Cope was full of running up front on her own,
even getting back to help when the Flyers threatened. For the first 20 minutes
Linby were kept at bay by some great goalkeeping, the Flyers keeper had a great
game.
Linby finally broke the deadlock when Chloe Peats corner was pushed over the
line by Georgie for her first. Caitlin then sent Georgie through on goal and
despite brave keeping Georgie again forced the ball over the line. Georgie then
got her hat trick to celebrate her birthday in style. The Flyers hit back with a
great strike just before half time to remind Linby they were still a threat.
Ellie Batey made her debut for the club and showed great promise, fighting for
the ball and playing the simple balls to players in space. Hannah Elson also
came on for a very tired Chloe Cope and settled well into the midfield.
The second half saw
another debut for Charlie Mills, slotting into the strikers role with great
energy, never letting the Flyers defence settle. Chloe Thorn Miles also started
the second half, always willing to try a trick and setting Charlie up for her
first goal for the club with a lovely through ball leaving Charlie to beat the
keeper, which she did with a beautifully placed shot. The Flyers then took
advantage of Linby’s lack of concentration to hit back and leave Georgie Boyce
in goal with little chance of reaching the ball.
Chloe Peat went
close to scoring with a blistering shot from almost the half way only to see the
Flyers keeper steer it by the upright. From the corner taken by Chloe, Hannah
Elson eventually pounced on the loose ball and netted from close range.

minutes in and Linby take the lead 1-nil– somehow after full time we have lost
8–3 – what happened? Linby did not deserve to go into half time 2 – 1 down
and arguably had the best of the first 30 minutes. The game was well poised and
end to end when on 20 minutes Jenna Lliffe broke down the left and unleashed a
shot come cross that deflected into Wollaton's goal. Wollaton came back strong
but Chloe Vernon was showing great determination and hand work yet again in goal
and Shay Richardson and Abbie Truman were coping well with a strong Wollaton
front line. The game continued to flow with bursts from Courtney Csomor and
Jenna down the wings supported by both Lizzy Williams in midfield and Paige
Housley up front, and Jodie Blacknell working hard on the right side of
midfield. The game turned on its head with a mad 2 minutes just before half time
conceding 2 two goals in as many minutes, then conceding a further 6 goals in
the first bizarre 15 minutes of the second half – unfortunately just seemed to
press a self destruct button. Linby need to react to this result as they really
didn’t play that bad and they should not have conceded the goals so easily in
that mad 17 minutes and need to show more character and determination when they
do concede. They also need to convert more of their chances as they could easily

in the third league game of the season. Bridgford came into today's game having
put 5 passed Priory Celtic without reply. Both teams lined up with a 4-4-2 with
Linby starting with the same team that took to the field against Arnold and
Nottingham United. It was clear from the early exchanges that Linby were going
to have to earn the right to play today as Bridgford closed down the Linby girls
very quickly. Linby, throughout the seventy minutes, were never allowed to
settle on the ball. Amber Denny (c) and Jess Wibberley were given very little
time in the centre of midfield but still managed to get the ball wide to
Millie-Rae Vardy and Zoe Hopewell when ever they had the chance. The first goal
of the game was scored by Bridgford. A low corner from the Linby left arrived at
the feet of the Bridgford number 9, as she stood 6 yards from the Linby goal.
The girl was then allowed to turn in the box and lob her shot over the helpless
keeper, 1-0 Bridgford. This goal appeared to spur Linby into a period of good
football. Zoe was seeing more of the ball and running by her defender with ease
and Jessica was becoming more accurate with her distribution. A good bit of play
by Jessica on the right created herself the space to cross the ball to the edge
of the 18 yard box which was met sweetly on the volley by Millie-Rae but her
shot flew narrowly wide of the upright. But eventually Linby's goal did come.
Again, Jessica Clipped a ball over the back four which saw Millie-Rae chase
after it before finding the composure to drill it into the bottom corner of the
Bridgford net, 1-1. Just before half time Amber curled a 20 yard free kick over
the wall but again saw it flash the wrong side of the post. The half finished
1-1 with Linby finishing the strongest. Linby made their first change of the
game, Emma on at left back for the pacey Amy. Linby came out for the second half
kicking down the slope but once again the whole Bridgford team pressed Linby
every time they were on the ball. As the second half went on Bridgford grew in
confidence and with 2 lively centre forwards Sarah Bill and Lauren were always
in for a difficult afternoon yet for most of the game they handled their
movement well. It was slightly against the run of play that saw Linby take the
lead. A free kick was awarded 30 yards(ish) from the Bridgford goal and Sianna
Bennett took the responsibility of taking the kick. With a Ronaldo length run up
Sianna hit a blistering shot that cleared everyone's head before dipping into
the bottom corner. 2-1, Linby nearly made it 3 after a wicked curling corner by
Jessica saw her effort headed off the line by a Bridgford defender. Bridgford
began to force Linby back towards their own goal which eventually saw them
equalise after their number 8 latched onto a good header by her strike partner,
2-2. Today's game saw Linby never really get into their stride but you can't
take the result away from a hard working Bridgford side. Linby have played

On paper, this was the girls toughest match so
far, but it all appeared to be going the same way as the previous two games
with Linby taking a two goal lead into the interval. However, Lincoln showed
their resilience and quality to battle back and force a draw in a thrilling
encounter at Church Lane. The Linby girls were quickly into their stride and a
good pass from Abi Wetton put Alex Francis away for a good shot after only
three minutes. The ever dependable skipper Serena Mason produced a good
interception to produce a counter attack and Alex again went close after a
strong 60 yard run from Kate Marriott. More chances were created before
Linby took the lead on 11 minutes when a good free-kick on the half way line
from Shannon Garlick was confidently finished by Kate Marriott from 18 yards
out. All the Linby girls were doing their jobs with Alex Francis particularly
getting through some sterling work up and down the right and Jody Shatliff
battling like a Pit Bull in midfield. Molly Abrahams got in a decisive block
before Abi doubled the Linby lead with a brilliant effprt into the left hand
corner. As the half progressed, the pace of Lincoln looked more of a threat
and Eleni Gospel had to be quick off her line on a number of occasions to
thwart through balls. At the other end Linby again went close from a corner
after excellent build up work from Anna Howarth. Despite more pressure from
Lincoln, it was their keeper who was by far the busier of the two. Rosie
Bingley being particularly unlucky. If the girls were confident two up at half
time, it seemed to be in the bag after two minutes of the second half. Eleni
had pulled off a good save then Linby broke away, passing the ball the
lenghth of the field for Rosie to finish with aplomb. Lincoln would not give
up and Eleni was again forced into action to push a powerfully struck shot
onto the bar. The Lincoln girls began to look more consistently threatening
and it took good work from Anna, Katie and Molly to keep them out. They did
pull one back with the home crowd baying for offside, but the lithe-limbed
athletic linesman was right in line and allowed play to go on for the Lincoln
striker to confidently shoot home. Linby struck back almost immediately with
an early contender for goal of the season, latching onto a clearance to hit a
first time shot home from fully 38 yards. (I paced it out afterwards!) At 4 1
the game should have been won, bit there followed some intense Lincoln
pressure as they rampaged forward down the slope. It still looked relatively
comfortable as Lincoln pulled another back to make it 4 2, and Abi forced a
good save from the Lincoln keeper. Much of the good work that Linby had
put in was unraveling and they began to look increasingly tired and in
the 68th minute Lincoln scored again. Even Linby's efforts at goal had a jaded
look about them and it became a grim battle to hang on. Keeper Eleni was
furious with herself as Lincoln pulled the scores level, and despite a
couple of Linby attacks it was Lincoln who were finishing by far the stronger.
The girls bravely battled on with their tanks on empty for the last five or
six minutes to hang onto a point, from a Lincoln team who had taken all
the ones on offer in their meetings last season.

was going to be a difficult afternoon. As in previous games Linby started well
adopting the 4-4-1 formation and defended well for 15 minutes but Grimsby's
pressure paid off as they took the lead with a sloppy goal. Linby replied almost
immediately as Robyn Sewell wide on the right played a ball into Suzie Geslon
who twisted and turned to play a square ball to Laura Knight who hit her shot
first time passed the advancing keeper. Grimsby was making the extra player
count as they passed the ball around and soon re-took the lead after a nice 1-2
move and minutes later added to the score sheet for 4-1. Linby continued to work
hard closing down there opposition quickly which resulted in Linby winning the
ball and with quick thinking knocked the ball over the defence for Laura Knight
to run onto and steam forward to the Grimsby goal in close pursuit of the
Grimsby centre back, Laura remained strong and on her feet to coolly slot the
ball passed the keeper for 4-2. Before the break Grimsby scored 2 further goals
one was a terrific long range shot giving Linbys keeper no chance. The second
period saw Linby make a few changes with Natasha Bird replacing Rachael
Wakefield in goal allowing Rachael to take up the strikers role and Suzie Gelson
going into defence while Robyn Sewell played wide right. From the off Linbys
Hannah Bicknell played a wonderful ball through into the path of Rachael
Wakefield who took a touch and hit a terrific shot into the bottom corner 6-3.
Linby started the second period the better side as they were winning the 50/50
balls and starting to pass the ball around and creating a number of attacking
moves. As the half progressed tired legs and the fact that the referee lost it
for a while doing Linby no favours as both Suzie and player of the match Lauren
Jubb in the right back position were wrestled and slammed to the ground, if it weren't
difficult enough playing against 11 players they didn't need the ref making up

having only a few chances. Linby’s defence stood strong with Caitlin Townsend
and Daisy Dignum showing great determination, breaking down Derby’s attacks
and feeding Georgie Boyce and Chloe Peat on the wings. Jaime Clifford was also
having a great game playing in the middle of midfield just in front of the
defenders helping break up the attacks and getting forward to great effect.
Derby broke the deadlock after a poor Linby corner saw Derby counter attack to
deadly effect leaving keeper Chloe Benniston with no chance. Derby made it 2 nil
before half time as Linby let all the good work go with a lapse of concentration
in the last 10 minutes.
Linby started the
second half the same as the first but again were hit on the break, a deadly
finish by the Derby forward left Chloe no chance. The introduction of Ellie
Batey and Charlie
Mills saw Linby start to threaten and Charlie’s persistence in a crowded
penalty area saw her shoot home. Linby now started to push forward and spent
long periods in the Derby half. Chloe Thorn Miles added some extra pace in
midfield to help keep the Derby team at bay. The fourth Derby goal was a well
struck lob past keeper Chloe after a poor kick left her exposed. For all
Linby’s possession they couldn’t find the goal and again were caught on the
break by 2 well taken breakaway goals. Linby never gave up and fought for every

don't think any of use expected the Woodlands team to be so big, talented and
organised. Linby always enjoy playing at Church Lane, it is a wide pitch that
allows them to use our wingers, Zoe Hopewell and Millie-Rae Vardy, to good
effect. Yet during the early encounters Woodlands appeared to be on top not
allowing Linby to get into their stride. In fact it was Woodlands that took a
deserved lead. A dangerous ball was whipped into the Linby penalty area which
wasn't dealt with. As a result the ball dropped to a Woodlands player who's shot
found the back of the Linby net having taken a cruel deflection off of a Linby

until half way through the first period. Lauren Wilson was a rock at the back

Humphries, Sarah Bill and Shannon Bird all responded well and began to compete
strongly with the impressive woodlands attack. It was also evident that Amber
Denny was trying to take the game by the scruff of the neck as she was making
tackle after tackle whilst trying to find that killer pass for Sianna Bennett
and Courtney Evans, who hadn't seen much of the ball during the first period.
Jessica Wibberley held her position in the centre of midfield making life
difficult for the Woodlands, attack minded, midfielders. With Woodlands playing
so well it was no surprise to see Elle Brookes having a lot to do between the
sticks. Elle pulled off a number of good, brave, saves to keep her team mates in
this game. It would also be fair to say that Linby could have gone in at half
time 2 or 3 goals down. When Linby came out for the second half all the
supporters were looking for a positive reaction from the Linby team. Yet 2
minutes after the re-start Woodlands number 14 showed her pace to ghost passed
two Linby players and fired a hard shot by Elle, 0-2 and Linby needed to become
a threat to the Woodlands goal before this game slipped away. Emma had now
replaced Amy at left back with the Paul & Lee sticking with the 4-4-2
system.
Woodlands second goal miraculously sparked Linby into life. Millie-Rae had now
taken up a more forward position alongside Sianna as Courtney dropped slightly
deeper behind the front two. With Zoe working her socks off out wide Millie-Rae,
Jessica, Courtney and Amber were looking for Sianna's runs on every possible
occasions and went more direct. Linby's first goal eventually came. Sianna
chased after a through ball along the ground and managed to fire a left foot
shot across the keeper and into the far corner of the Woodlands goal, 1-2, and
Sianna's celebration was dedicated to her granddad's 60th birthday, come on
Linby..... Courtney then showed her trickery on the edge of the Woodlands box
before seeing her effort flash the wrong side of the post. Woodlands though
would not lie down. They also began to look more direct and Elle was called into
action on a couple more occasions even though Lauren and Sarah had become more
dominant in the centre of the back four. The game had become end to end and both
teams were getting stretched. A well flighted corner from the left by Amber saw
Millie-Rae jump the highest between two defenders. Her headed attempt on goal
again saw her effort take a massive deflection off a Woodlands defender before
rolling into the corner of the net, 2-2, and I think both sets of managers would
have probably have settled for a draw at this point. With only minutes to go
Elle took a goal kick that fell to the talented feet of Amber. Amber carried the
ball up field and played an inch perfect pass over the Woodlands back line.
Again, Linby's in form striker, Sianna Bennett, raced onto the ball, pushed it
by the onrushing keeper before composing herself and passing the ball into the
empty net, 3-2, what a goal. The final goal showed a massive sense of relief on
all the players, managers and supporters faces as the goal was celebrated as
though it was the winner in a cup final. This has to be one of the best games of
girls football I have ever seen. Woodlands came to Linby with a game plan and
deserved to go away with a better result than they got. That said, Linby battled
well and did fantastically well to take all three points. If this game was a
book it would be a best seller. If it was a film it would be an epic. Well done
girls, you had to dig deep today and keep the unbeaten run going. Goal

After
Colin’s Wednesday worries about actually having a full team (albeit more
of a mathematical nightmare than a factual shortage), the girls lined up ready
to take on a strong Lincoln squad. From the first kick it was obvious that this
was going to be a tough physical encounter, with more chance of a colles
fracture than a dislocated shoulder in one-to-one encounters. The Linby
defensive line held strong against an initial maelstrom from Lincoln. Becca
Collingwood was a heroine stopping powerful shots in both halves of the game,
showing strong hands on several occasions. In front of her, Ellen Marriott, Jade
Benniston, Abbie Gale and Kirsty Peat – each showed a determination and
strength in body and character under extreme pressure throughout the entire
game. Sammy Barlow opened the scoring on 7 minutes, latching onto a through ball
from Lauren Betteridge. As Sammy closed on the keeper, she despatched the ball
across the goal from right to slot into the left hand corner to make it 1-0. The
midfield had to work extremely hard with Elle Croucher and Lauren challenging
hard for every ball, and winning most. Both girls battled for the ball with a
calm assurance using heads, feet and bodies to win the ball. Along with Gabi
Oxley and Leah Collingwood, they gave Linby the platform on which to build a
strong performance. On the right wing Eleanor Brooks turned in a player of the
match performance. In the face of vigorous defence, she mastered play on either
wing and caused trouble for Lincoln every time she took possession. Katrina
Bloomer benefited from some hard work in midfield by Elle. Winning a bouncing
ball, Elle pushed the ball towards the keeper. As the ball fell clear of her
despairing hands, Kat was on hand to push the ball into the centre of the goal -
2-0 at the break! A difficult few minutes 10 into the second period saw both
Lauren and Charley MacLaren withdrawn after injuries. Pressure on Linby now saw
the girls crack a little. The ball found it’s way to the Lincoln forward
pushed it home past Becca, late in the game. With only 5 minutes of normal time,
added to a Manchester United length of injury time, the single goal lead meant
some fingers were now being chewed on the sidelines. The girls settled the
nerves however, as they pushed forward again. A bouncing ball, that had been
played in by Eleanor Brooks, a Lincoln hand and the referee pointing to the spot
… and Colin and Jenny hiding as Jade Benniston stepped up to take the kick.
Jade got her – and the entire team’s - deserved reward by putting the ball
into the opposite side of the goal from the keeper. At 3-1 the game was all but
settled, but unfortunately some of the more unsavoury incidents occurred around
this time. Tackles and tempers flared – the less said about this the better
for the sake of girls’ football. A win and the girls should be proud of their
part in today’s game! Goals Sammy Barlow, Katrina Bloomer and Jade
Benniston.

Another quality performance from Linby saw them
tackle, pass and create numerous quality chances to record their third
victory of the season. Linby were on the
attack straight from the kick off and Alex Francis, Rosie Bingley and
Katie Abrahams all all had good chances. After the initial onslaught the game
became a little more evenly balanced, which brougt into play some superb
tackling from the Linby defence. The pleasing thing was that each tackle won,
or interception, led to quality passing out from the back with one-twos and
intelligent play frequently drawing applause from the crowd. It was an
Anna Howarth inspired move from the back that enabled Linby to take the
lead in the 12th minute. Abi Wetton scoring with an angled shot. Within three
minutes, the partnership stuck again as Anna put Abi away to make it 2 0 with
a high right footed shot. Despite being on top, Linby were frustrated on
a number of occasions being caught offside by a tight Ruddington back line,
but effectively sealed the game when yet another fine interception from Molly
Abrahams put Kate Marriott away who made no mistake with low right foot shot.
Linby continued to close down and defend brilliantly when called upon, and
Shannon Garlick excelled at both ends in the space of two minutes, going close
to scoring from a corner and then stopping an attack at the other end. Half
time 3 0. The start of the second half was a more even affair, and Ruddington
showed that they could compete, but as the half progressed Linby again were
creating better chances with Kate and Molly, the latter going close with a
fine 25 yard effort. After 25 minutes, just after Molly had again gone close
with another effort from distance, Ruddington pulled one back after a striker
finally shook off her shackles to score on the break. Within a minute, Linby
restored their advantage after good work from Alex, who had been a constant
thorn in the side of Rudington, produced a cross for Hazel Bowen to gleefully score
with her first touch after returning from injury and coming an as a sub.
Although that ended the scoring we were treated to a mazy dribble from Kate
down the right, and Shannon making an impression in a more forward position.
Full time 4 1, and arguably the most complete
performance of the season so far with pleasing aspects from all departments of
the team on show.

Lincoln started
with the majority of the possession and took the lead after 10 minutes. After
this initial shock Linby pulled it together and started to play some sexy
football, with the midfield of Rachael Henson and Suzie Gelson tackling hard.
Courtney Walters pulled Linby back into the game with a 20 yard chip from a through ball
from strike partner captain Laura Knight. (who met David Johnson the night
before) Linby kept the pressure on and within 5 minutes of the equaliser Louise
Rivett crossed the ball for Laura Knight (best friends with David Johnson) who
took on 2 defenders and slotted the ball into the bottom right hand corner.
Lincoln responded and from a corner found the equaliser (2-2) Linby feeling
shell shocked, allowed Lincoln too much space and they punished them with a terrific
shot which left stand in keeper Natasha "ninja" Bird with no chance.
Linby went into the break trailing 3-2 but a half time team talk picked the
spirits and Linby went out believing that they could take all 3 points. Liz
Terry, Lauren "jubby" Jubb, Laura Muir and Hannah Bicknell remained
solid at the back and Linby started to show some quality with some neat quick
passing, Laura Knight (who had a drink with David Johnson) found strike
partner Courtney Walters who hit the back of the net to equalise and set up an
exciting contest. Lincoln a side that will not lie down continued to battle and
pressure the Linby defence but thanks to player of the match Natasha Bird who
made some immense saves keeping Linby in the game. Rachael Wakefield came on
with fresh legs and kept the central midfield tight alongside Suzie Gelson who
made some fantastic runs along with great footwork and fed the ball out wide to
Robyn Sewell who slipped the ball through to Courtney Walters who bagged her 3rd
of the afternoon. (3-4) Linby went looking to increase there lead as they
created numerous chances as Laura Knight (who had a whisky and lemonade
with David Johnson) almost netted her 2nd goal and Suzie Gelson's powerful shot
went straight down the throat of the keeper. Louise Rivett and Robyn Sewell
worked well on the flanks producing some fine crosses and Louise was unlucky not
to score her first this season when her shot was spilled by the keeper and
scrambled off the line. Lincoln were awarded a corner and scored as Linby were
unable to clear there lines. (4-4) The last 10 minutes of the game saw
Linby finishing strong and were pushing for all 3 points while at the same time
keeping it safe at the back. Time ran out and they had to settle for the 1
point, a good performance and for the first time this season Linby played like a
team who believed and worked hard for each other. Goals: Courtney Walters

sunny crisp autumn morning set the scene for the U10’s first round FA shield
game against Arnold Town Maroon. Leah O’Dowd was never called upon in a half
that saw Linby camped in the Arnold half, the defence of Amber Cresswell, Hollie
Springthorpe and Kaitlin O’Dowd made sure that every ball was covered. Working
together they passed and tackled to give the rest of the team the confidence to
take the ball up the field. Erin Gale and Olivia Bowen were fantastic both up
front and in midfield. Their movement opened up the opposition to allow Ruth
Oldham the space to try several powerful strikes on goal. The girl’s eagerness
to score a goal was only halted by their inexperience in front of goal. A second
half change saw Nicole Christian and Hannah Brown join the game but it wasn’t
to be, two goals from Arnold saw the end to what looked like such a good chance
for Linby U10’s. I made the mistake of changing too much at half time and

managed to stop a run of two successive defeats with a 1 - 0 win in the first
round of the County Shield.
On the whole this was a great game
for the neutral with Linby showing dominance in the first half but Robin Hood
coming on strong in the second and did look dangerous on the break.
Linby were only able to field 7
players and therefore needed a lot of work rate and commitment. Linby were also
pleased to play Chloe Vernon in goal for the whole match which I think was the
difference between winning and losing this game. I want to go on record here and
thank Chloe Vernon for volunteering to go in goal for the majority of the games
– we are still looking for a Keeper but this will give the team some
stability.
Chloe’s performance was solid,
her handling and kicking were very assured and she produced a fantastic save
halfway through the first half that most keepers would be proud of.
Abbie Truman and Molly Slater also
produced one of their best performances in defence. Abbie was able to use her
strength going forward while Molly didn’t put a foot wrong all day.
Moving further up the field,
Courtney Csomor was back to her best starting in an unfamiliar position as
centre forward she continues to cause havoc in the right area. It was Courtney
who scored the only goal of the game on 7 minutes when Elizabeth Williams
went on a fantastic run down the right hand side and managed to pick out
Courtney in the box – Courtney turned onto her left foot and slotted the ball
into the opposite bottom corner.
With only 7 players it was crucial
that the midfield worked hard and both Jodie Blacknell and Paige Housley
continued to make runs up and down the pitch – with some encouragement from
the management!
In
summary a good performance and result in a closely fought game. Goal:

made the very early and long trip to Bingham in the first round of the Shield

forgotten when the ref got the game underway. The simple fact is the Girls got
back to what they do best today and that was to move the ball around and make
the pitch as wide as they could when attacking and as small as possible when
defending. The score line may suggest that the flood gates opened for Linby but
Bingham played some good Football and more than enough matched our girls on a

It
is often the case that a match can build it’s own image before the start of
the game. Today’s encounter at Church Lane saw both stands crowded, and
Linby’s Ladies were obviously affected by the pre-match thoughts. Although the
scoreboard ticked over for the first time after only a minute and a half, when a
throw from Kirsty Peat unsettled the Rolls defence and a stray head pushed the
ball into the Rolls’ net, the next 10 minutes or so were far less settled. A
messy period of play ensued as the girls lost their concentration and shape.
Indeed after 12 minutes Rolls were level – how cannot be told as your
correspondent was having a Harry Redknapp moment as the ball went in –
distracted by raffle tickets! However within a minute, Linby surged back up the
left wing, forcing a throw. Kirsty’s looping launch landed in between players,
and the resultant confusion ended with Katrina Bloomer turning on the ball and
slotting it home past the Rolls keeper. Once again the undoubted benefits of a
strong and settled defensive team were on display. Abi Gale was masterful on the
defensive wing, with her tackles denying a number of strong attacks, and her
clearing boot launching attacks. In the centre of the team, the co-ordination
and co-operation was excellent, as Helen "Mazza" Marriott and
Jade Benniston rotated, rolled and covered – stifling drives, through balls
and overheads alike. Having now settled hearts on the pitch and the sidelines,
and having set up two of the opening three goals, Kirsty now joined the goal
hunt. Good work from Eleanor Brooks on the right wing, a swift curling cross and
the ball was at Kirsty’s feet on the 6-yard box. A controlled shot, and the
net bulged once more. The first half scoring was completed on 20 minutes. Once
again a left hand throw lead to the ball bobbling around the 18 yard line before
dropping clear just outside the box. As Elle Croucher demonstrated her manners
by leaving the ball, Sophie Beldham despatched a kick that curled it’s way
inside the right hand of the Rolls sticks. The second half was less of a goal
fest, and indeed found keeper Becca Collingwood called more into the game. One
shot in particular – imitating Sophie’s first half goal – was expertly
stopped as it came out of a crowd of players and threatened to swerve by. This
half saw far more work from both teams in the midfield, but once again the work
ethics of Elle and Kat made life hard for their opposition. Both managed to win
a number of balls that popped through the defence to Leah Collingwood and Emily
Keeling in the attack. With the half 13 minutes old, Emily – making her
re-debut – chased through the gaping centre of the Rolls defence to latch onto
a lobbed ball out of midfield from Elle. Left one-on-one with the charging
keeper Emily lifted the ball over her grasping hands, and watched as it hobbled
and rolled its way into the goal … Similar runs from Gaby Oxley, interchanging
the ball with Eleanor, would have added to the total but for some last ditch
tackling from Rolls. Lauren Betteridge, having redecorated her shirt after a
header became a “noser” in the first half, returned to the fray. Her
selfless distribution of the ball was typified with a run towards goal that
would have seen many shoot and lose the ball. Lauren instead laid the ball right
to Eleanor and her – restored to her right wing – once again turned the
defence inside out, and crossed high into the box. This time a despairing head
missed the goal, but instead directed the ball to Kirsty’s feet. This was
driven back across the goal into the opposite top corner – emphatically
drawing a line under the day’s goals. Player of the match went to Sammy
Barlow, whose hard work in the first half in attack, and supporting roles in the
second, saw her harrying tackles, and jinking footwork beating and baffling the
Rolls defence. On another day goals would have undoubtedly followed. A solid win
against a team whose main threats came on the counter-attack – and
importantly, Lauren’s nose aside, no new injury list this week! Scorers

disappointing result but a game that could have been much different if chances

quickly when striker Courtney Walters hit the back of the net with a thunderous
shot. The game remained at 1-1 for most of the first half and Linby were unlucky
not to go ahead when a shot went across the goal and hit the far post. Linby
were living a charmed life as Arnolds poor finishing kept Linby in the game. But
just before the break Arnold finally found the back of the net to take the lead.
Linby without there 1st and 2nd choice keeper saw Leia Smithson replaced by
Rebekah Duckmanton. The floodgates opened in the second period as Arnold found
there shooting boots, but Linby were not without there chances as yet again
Courtney hit the post and later with a clear cut chance hit the ball over the
crossbar. Changes were made as the hard working Robyn Sewell was replaced due to

game Liz Terry replaced Chloe Richards in defence and Danni Housley replacing

3-2 on Pens (cup) POM: Amber Denny
At
the start of today you would have expected this game to be called off due to the
adverse weather conditions as Linby Ladies under 13's travelled to Pegasus yfc
in the league cup. Both teams started with the 4-4-2 formation with Paul and Lee
having the comfort of choosing a side from 15 available girls. Linby starting
the game kicking up a slight slope and against a very strong wind making it
difficult to get the ball out of their own half. Pegasus immediately put Linby
under pressure and began to pepper the Linby goal with numerous shots. It wasn't
long before Linby found themselves 2 goals down within the first 10 minutes. It
was very clear that the Pegasus side was full of pace and had a very strong
squad of players. Linby then began to play their way back into the game as
Sianna and Courtney came close before COURTNEY eventually got herself on the
score sheet. Good work on the right side of midfield by Millie-Rae found Sianna
inside the 18 yard box. Sianna's effort was well saved by the keeper but the
rebound was finished well by Courtney who smashed the ball into the back of the
net. Pegasus responded by playing the ball out wide where they had exceptional
pace and caused our back line all sorts of problems throughout the whole game.
Linby's second came from a quick break. Amber and Jessica worked hard to win the
ball and between them they furnished an opening for MILLIE-RAE who beat the
offside trap to fire an unstoppable shot into the far corner of the goal, 2-2,
half time. Linby started the second half with the wind now behind them and began
strongly looking for the goals that would kill the game off, having shown great
character to get back into the game. As I previously mentioned, Pegasus have a
team full of pace and they used this to break quickly and score 2 more goals
leaving the Linby girls with another mountain to climb.Linby continued to attack
the Pegasus goal confident that they would get back into the game yet struggled
to find the back of the net. With only ten minutes of the second half remaining
Linby grabbed themselves a life line. SIANNA was played through from near the
half way line, managed to hold off her defenders before blasting her right foot
shot from the edge of the 18 yard box and nestled into the bottom corner, 4-3.
More attacks and more squandered opportunities for Linby followed as they looked
for the equaliser. It wasn't until the last kick of the game that Linby
eventually drew level and it was very much deserved. The Pegasus goalkeeper held
the ball in her hands for around 20 seconds (the 6 second rule didn't apply
today) before miss kicking her goal kick. MILLI-RAE was the quickest to react
and was onto it like a flash as she rolled the ball into the empty net and
getting herself injured showing her bravery to get to the ball first, 4-4, extra
time. Both teams tried in vein to find the killer goal and Linby were unlucky
not to win the game in the last seconds. Amber had worked herself an opening
just outside the 18 yard box and drilled her effort against the crossbar. The
rebound fell to Sianna, who you would have put your mortgage on to score, but
her effort blazed wide of the upright. The game went to penalties which was
eventually won by Pegasus 3-2 after 6 penalties had been taken. Today's game was
played at a very high tempo and with the poor weather conditions it was
difficult for the Linby girls to get into their passing game. That said, both
teams had a host of chances and the game could have finished 10 - 10. Scorers -

Katherine Asbury and having to adopt 1-4-3-1 formation Linby frustrated and embarrassed
the 11 strong Sparta team as they created a number of goal scoring chances, with
shots narrowly going the wrong side of the up rights and Laura Knight going
close with her effort hitting the woodwork. Linby at the opposite end were
defending at the highest quality with Lauren Jubb, Chloe Richards, Laura Muir
and Hannah Bicknell not let anything through. Linby were looking comfortable on
the ball and playing some very nice football and it wasn't until the 20th minute
that the referee strangely awarded a free kick to Sparta on the edge of the
Linby box. Despite forming a wall the Sparta player hit a well placed shot into
the top left corner. Sparta increased there lead just before the break. Linby
were aware that tired legs may come into play and were going to make the ball
work for them, they did just this as they were linking up well all over the
pitch. Laura Knight battling hard in midfield despite clearly struggling with a
niggle she picked up in the first period, Louise Rivett working her socks off
down the left flank and Rachael Henson threading some forward passes into lone
striker Rachael Wakefield who worked hard causing the Sparta defence problems.
Sparta had to wait 15 minutes before they added to there tally and yet again
increased there lead to 4-0. Linby never allowed there heads to drop and
continued to work for each other and soon had something to cheer when Rachael
Henson collected the ball in the middle of the park and twisted and weaved her
way through the Sparta defence gunning for goal and with just the advancing
keeper to beat knocked the ball past her for the ball to creep slowly over the
line willed on by the Linby supporters. Inevitably those tired legs came into
play and Linby conceded another 2 goals for a final score of 6-1. It was always

distributing the ball for Casey Bailey to capitalize on scoring in the 10th

solo effort. A fantastic performance by all, a joy to watch, fantastic support
from parents left Linby's youngsters on a high. Goals: Siobhan Simms 3,

v Linby 2
POM: Choe Peat
After
a 3 week layoff the girls were ready to play this game. Linby pushed Arnold back
from the outset with Georgie Boyce firing wide in the opening minutes. Chloe
Benniston in goal had little to do in the first half with Jaime Clifford and
Caitlin Townsend rarely putting a foot wrong to stop all the Arnold attacks.
Daisy Dignum played in the centre of midfield this week, adapting well and
getting involved in all Linby’s attacks.
Chloe Peat worked
well on the right and with Boyce on the left displaying some great first touches
to bamboozle the Arnold defence it was felt it was only a matter of time before
Linby scored. Charlie Mills was unlucky on a number of occasions and Mills was
involved in Linby’s first when she played the ball to Peat who in turn set
Boyce up for an easily taken opening goal. Linby’s second goal was a great
pass into the net by Boyce from an almost impossible angle. Chloe Cope came on
for tired Mills and settled into her usual strikers role and tested the keeper
with three quick fire shots the last of which was brilliantly saved by the
Arnold keeper. Ellie Batey was introduced for Dignum and on only her second game
put in some good tackles and covered well when the defence went forward. The
first half should have produced lots more goals but Linby came up against a
great keeper who saved all the on target shots!
The second half saw
Boyce move into the keepers role and much as Benniston in the first half only
touched the ball twice. Linby played some great passing moves but all too often
stopped concentrating when they could have put their possession to goals. Mills
showed some great first touches in front of goal unleashing a couple of rockets
just wide. Peat and Cope on the wings were keeping their positions well and
knocking balls into the Arnold area all game. Clifford finished the match in the
strikers position with Townsend and Dignum controlling the defence. Keeper
Benniston also made a rare appearance in midfield showing great enthusiasm in a
strange role for this keeper.
Well done girls,
another decent match but passing and concentration needs to improve to better
this result.
Player of the match
went to Chloe Peat for her great positioning and bringing the training skills
onto the pitch.

POM: Millie Rae Vardy
Linby
ladies travelled a short distance today to play against Priory Celtic FC at
Kimberley Town ground on a very large pitch which suited Linby's style of play.
Paul and Lee once again had the luxury of choosing from a squad of 15 girls and
decided to make a few changes to the starting line up and formation. The
management set the side up as a 4-4-1-1 formation. Elle Brooks took up her usual
position between the sticks with a back four of Shannon Bird at right back,
Lauren Wilson and Jessica Wibberley at the centre of defence and a start at left
back for Sophie Wardle. Millie-Rae Vardy began the game on the right side of
midfield, Zoe Hopewell and Sarah Bill in the centre of the park and Courtney
Evans on the left. This left Linby's inspirational captain, Amber Denny, playing
in behind the lone striker of Sianna Bennett.
Linby began the game by playing against the slope of the pitch and it was
evident early in the game that Priory were going to be in for a difficult
afternoon. When ever the priory girls came forward they were met be the strong
and determine tackles of Shannon, Lauren and Sophie with Jessica tidying up
anything that looked like it was going to cause any sort of threat to the Linby
goal. Linby played the first half in a very industrious manner. The midfield
pairing of Zoe and Sarah worked tirelessly to break up Priory's play whilst
Courtney and Millie-Rae held their wide positions and tracked back to make life
difficult for Priory's wide players. Linby opened the scoring from a set piece.
A Millie-Rae corner drifted to the edge of the box and dropped to the feet of
Courtney who's vision was excellent as she picked out Sianna in a crowded
penalty area. SIANNA was allowed to hit her first time shot whilst on the turn
and saw the ball creep inside the near post, 0-1. Linby continued to get the
ball on the deck and varied their passing moving priory from one side of the
pitch to the other. Sophie probably had her best game in a Linby shirt. Nothing
got by this girl today and every time she had the ball she found one of her team
mates and made the art of defending look very easy. Sophie was then replaced
after 25 minutes by Katie who carried on from where Sophie left off. It has to
be said that Jessica and Lauren formed a fantastic pairing at the back whilst
Shannon is defending so well that it allows Millie-Rae more freedom to attack
the opposition defences. More good football followed as Linby continued to find
gaps in the Priory defence with Amber now becoming more familiar with her new
role and began to pull all the strings as Linby went in search of goal number 2.
The second did eventually come just before half time. Some fantastic work on the
left side of the pitch by Courtney allowed her time and space to cross for
Amber. Amber composed herself on the edge of the penalty area before rolling the
ball to her right and into the path of Millie-Rae who's first touch was magical.
Millie-Rae showed great feet to work herself a shot before nearly ripping the
net down with a thunderbolt, 0-2. Half time came and Linby were now kicking down
the slope. With the hard work that the girls put in, particularly from the
tigerish duo of Sarah and Zoe, during the first half you now expected the Linby
girls to turn on the style and they didn't disappoint. Emma replaced Shannon and
slotted straight in at right back and looked extremely composed as she found the
feet of Millie-Rae on every available opportunity The third goal was very
confusing. With Sianna through and goal she some how hit the post yet followed
the ball into the back of the net as the keeper and defender tried desperately
to keep the ball out. The referee then blew his whistle to award a penalty,
after Sianna had scored. I'm still tyring to understand the decision!!. Anyway,
the resulting spot kick was dispatched confidently by SIANNA to score her 20th
goal of the season, 0-3 More good work on the left by young Evans saw her beat
her defender with ease before playing an inch perfect pass between the defence
and goalkeeper. SIANNA read the pass and bravely reached the ball first to see
her effort creep over the goal line to score her 4th hat trick of the season so
far, 0-4. After this goal it became the Millie-Rae Vardy show, with a lot of
help from her team mates. Following some very brave and brilliant saves from
from the Priory Linby's fifth goal of the game soon arrived. Amber collected the
ball around the centre of the pitch 30 yard out from goal. Her ability to pick a
pass was once again in practise as she clipped a ball diagonally over the Priory
defence into the path of MILLIE-RAE who found the top corner of the Priory goal
with a quality finish, 0-5. Amber eventually got herself on the score sheet
after good inter play with Zoe. AMBER was again allowed the time to size up her
shot from 20 yard before drilling a looping shot into the roof of the net, 0-6
Millie-Rae created the seventh as she drifted past 2 defenders before crossing
to the unmarked Sianna inside the 6 yard box. SIANNA controlled the cross before
passing the ball into the empty net, 0-7. Millie-Rae then joined Sianna as she
also grabbed her hat trick after some more fantastic play. Millie-Rae showed
great strength and pace to beat 4 players after a brilliant one two with Amber
on the right side of the pitch. MILLIE-RAE continued her run as she drove into
the box and blasted her shot passed the helpless keeper, 0-8. Priory did
eventually get a consolation goal with an effort that really gave Elle no chance
in the Linby goal, 1-8. Amy Humphries was now invited to the action and replaced
the dynamic Zoe who was very much one of the unsung heroine's today putting in a
fantastic shift and worked extremely hard alongside Sarah Bill. This did not
stop Linby playing their very attractive and at times breath taking football.
Millie-Rae got her 4th of the game after Katie intercepted a poor goal kick and
was able to find Millie-Rae in space. MILLIE-RAE had time to pull the trigger
and score with another screamer, 1-9. Leah was also introduce into the action
for the last five minutes giving Jessica a well earned rest. Jessica today
showed all supporters the reason she is so important to this side. Jessica's
ability to adapt to any position makes her a fantastic asset as she makes
football look so easy. The final goal was also scored by Millie-Rae as she
grabbed her fifth of the match. The ball was played into the Priory penalty area
and it bobbled about until it was smashed into the back of the net by MILLI-RAE,
1-10. Well done girls, absolutely awesome today. Scorers - Millie-Rae 5,
Sianna 4, Amber 1. Player of the match and Supporters player of the match -
Millie-Rae Vardy was explosive today. She beat her markers with Pace, Power,
Desire and skill as well as helping herself to 5 goals. Just brilliant today.

14s: Linby 2 v Wollaton 2
POM: Emily Keeling
As
the leaden skies gathered, the Linby Ladies under 14s welcomed Wollaton the
Ravenshead Redoubt. Unfortunately the lead in the skies quickly transferred into
the legs of the girls and we were “treated” to a replay of the Arnold
scenario, with the redoubt becoming plain doubt. Faced by another team who
really wanted the ball, the girls had no answers for the first minutes of the
game. Within 3 minutes the speed of the Wollaton attack had turned the Linby
defence inside out and their forward had broken through the line and put the
ball past a stranded Rebecca Collingwood. Once the sun broke through the clouds,
the heat seemed to melt some of the lead away, and the team began to make moves
towards the Wollaton goal. Sadly the fight back was halted as a well-taken free kick
on the right hand side of the penalty box sailed over the wall, and into the top
of the goal … 17 minutes and 2-0 DOWN. Introducing Sammy Barlow to the
midfield gave a much-needed impetus to the play, as her quick feet and brain
rattled the previously composed Wollaton players. It was however a break from
the back that finally broke the Linby duck. Jade Benniston charged forward from
the back, taking the ball over the halfway line and pushing it through to Emily
Keeling. Her composure on the ball was evident as she lifted the ball up and
over the advancing defence from right to left and into the goal. Closing the
first half at 1-2 was not exactly the game plan that matched expectations ...
but there it was. The game restarted after Colin had used some of the unused
fireworks from the previous evening as his team talk. The back four now looked
more settled as Helen Marriott and Jade regained some composure, and
released Abbie Gale and Sophie Beldham into wing attacks. Taking her place in
the group Kirsty Peat also displayed a renew vigour, while Katrina Bloomer
picked up on a number of loose balls around the box. Sustained pressure finally
paid dividends. Shots from Emily, and Eleanor Brooks came in on the goal forcing
saves and rattling the crossbar. As the ball came out of the crowded box, Sammy
picked it up and launched curling shot into the net. Lauren Betteridge awoke,
Gaby Oxley battled and the previously subdued Elle Croucher began to challenge
for the ball, but this was a tough battle against a team who were consistently
at the B of bounce, while Linby arrived on the E. In this atmosphere either side
could have broken to get the deciding goal, and that neither did was down to
some smart handling by Rebecca. Reminded that match reports should always end on
a positive note … so here they are; 1) The girls salvaged 1 point, and ummm
…2) the kits were nice and clean! Goals: Emily Keeling 1, Sammy Barlow

15s: Linby 7 v Westbridgford 0
POM: Alex Francis
After an enforced four week break, the Linby
girls carried on where they had left off against Ruddington and romped to a
comfortable victory over a plucky West Bridgford side. It was good to see the
goals spread through the team too. The game
saw new signing Hazel Fox make her debut for Linby, and she began up front
with Abi Wetton. Linby were fastest out of the blocks and Alex Francis went
close with a volley after only three minutes. Shannon Garlick was next to go
close, hooking just wide after a spell of "pinball" in the box.
It was only a matter of time before Linby took the lead, and the opening goal
came courtesty of a dream debut from "Foxy" who confidently opened
her account for Linby. The same player also went close after a sweeping 75
yard 8 pass move from the back. It was all Linby as Abi and Foxy both had
shots narrowly wide of the goal before - in the sixteenth minute - Keeper
Eleni Gospel had her first touch of the ball coming out of her box to kick
clear. Alex Francis hit a dipping shot that the Bridgford keeper got her hands
to, but couldn't keep out, to double the Linby lead on 17 minutes. Credit to
Bridgford who kept plugging away and trying to play the game the right way,
but the game was over as a competition in the 21st minute when Abi rattled in
one of her trademark left footers to make it 3 0. Linby seemed to ease up
slightly as the half hour mark approached, but kept producing chances with
Alex Francis being a constant menace with her silky skills. When called upon,
the Linby defence simply broke the hearts of the Bridgford forwards by
snuffing out any half chances before they could develop. Kate Marriott blazed
over the bar and Rosie Bingley shot wide before Shannon showed persistence to
make it four after a good double save from the Bridgford keeper. Molly
Abrahams roamed forward to put a good attempt just wide to bring to
an end the first half with Linby leading 4 0. The
first half started as the first had ended with Linby creating chances and Foxy
was unlucky after just 2 minutes, before Shannon confidently made it 5
0. Alex had another good run and shot and then Shannon who ws starting to run
riot on the left put in an inviting cross which the onrushing Rosie forced in
with her belly button! She then went close again, but collided with the
Bridgford keeper who had to leave the field. After 16 minutes Linby started to
make a number of substitutions and it was pleasing to see the way the team
kept their shape with different personnel on the field. More good work from
Shannon produced a corner and then another cross from the left enabled
Kate to net Linby's 7th after 26 minutes. As Linby cruised home we should
spare a thought for Eleni in the Linby goal who handled the ball just once in
the game and called for back passes to enable to keep warm! There was
just time for Kate to embark on a couple of good runs before the final whistle
blew and the game finished with the news that Linby had gone to the top of the
League table. Goals:
Shannon Garlick 2, Hazel Fox 1, Abi Wetton 1, Alex Francis 1, Rosie Bingley 1,
Kate Marriott 1.

dangerous on the counter but good solid defending and a player of the match
performance from Simone Jackson denied them any clear chances on the Linby goal.
It was Southchurch who put the ball over the line first but fortunately it was
in there own goal, Linby added another 3 with Southchurch scoring just before
the break 4-1. It was important that Linby increased their lead early in the
second period and this they did 5-1. Linby took there foot off the gas and
allowed Southchurch to come back into the game 5-3. Linby finished strong with
good interlinking play down the left side with Laura Cumberpatch laying off some
wonderful timed and weighted passes for Bernadette Piper to run onto and whip
some crosses in causing Southchurch allsorts of problems. Linby scored another 2
and Southchurch wrapped up the morning with a consolation goal for a final score

POM: Phoebe Wardle-Collins
Linby's
under 9s travelled away to Bingham Town, having already met once this season,
the teams knew there opposition. Linby didn’t waste any time, Casey Bailey and
Siobhan Simms making early moves on goal testing the oppositions keeper. Bingham
tried to respond but Linby’s rock solid defender Tansy Cresswell denied them
any chances, clearing the ball for Linbys new player Phoebe Wardle-Collins to
make a great run at goal hitting it just wide. Linby dominated the game with
Siobhan Simms picking up the ball in defence and running along the touchline and
linking up with Phoebe only to hit the post. A great back heel from Tansy
Cresswell on the half way line sent Casey Bailey on a run pairing up with
Siobhan making them a cracking pairing in midfield only to shoot just wide. From
a corner Phoebe Wardle-Collins hit the ball and supposedly stopped on the goal
line. From the goal kick the ball landed at Casey's feet who smacked the ball
back into the Binghams goal. From the restart Casey was goal hungry and broke
through players only to hit the ball wide. Bingham tried to put pressure on
Linby but defenders Olivia Anderson and Tansy Cresswell were solid. Keeper Laura
Cope and Tansy, linked up really well preventing an equalizer. From a throw in
Phoebe Wardle-Collins went on a solo run and tapped the ball into the goal to
get herself on the score sheet. Chance after chance came for the formidable trio
Phoebe, Casey, and Siobhan. The Bingham keeper handled the ball out of her area
awarding Linby with a free kick, Siobhan steps up and takes the kick only to hit
the post taking the game to half time with Linby in front. Substitutions were
made at half time with Alice Thompson and Elena Gale entering the field, great
passing moves from the duo linked up with Casey Bailey to make goal No 3. Bingham
started to string a few passes together, but Tansy Cresswell made her move and
hit a blistering ball into the back of the net. Bingham moved quickly and
responded with a goal of there own. It was now turning into end to end play,
with Linbys keeper pulling off some great saves. Linbys Siobhan Simms battled
through defence to score Linbys 5th. Bingham once again replied
scoring there 2nd. Charliegh Rudd-Burrows remained solid in defence
clearing out clear attacks this resulting in the ball being cleared to Siobhan
who tried really hard to top up her score but to no avail. Bingham never
gave up, testing Linbys defence and keeper great challenges where made but Linby
lapsed and gifted Bingham with there 3rd. Dying minutes of the game
Linby battled with great clearances from Jessica Thompson to the feet of Phoebe
for her to capitalise and score the final goal for Linby taking the game to 3-6.
Player of the match went to Phoebe Wardle-Collins for a fantastic battling and

The
highlight of the today’s match was a stunning goal scored by Ruth Oldham. Ruth
came on after 15 minutes and had an instant impact. Picking the ball up in
midfield, working the ball forward and creating space for a fantastic left foot
shot, giving the goalkeeper no chance. The rest of the game was made up of what
if and maybes. The defensive line of Hollie Springthorpe, Kaitlin O’Dowd,
Amber Cresswell and Izzy Anderson where kept busy, defending to the best of
there ability. Leah O’Dowd kept the score line low, pulling of save after save
and again giving a solid performance. The midfield of Erin Gale, Nicole
Christian and Ruth Oldham, showed potential going forward in attack. With Olivia
Bowen keeping Arnold defenders busy by winning loose balls and creating half
chances for the midfield players to have a go at goal. The score line doses not
reflect the effort and improvement Linby under 10s have shown. It’s only a

11s: Radcliffe 1
v Linby 1
POM: Georgie Boyce
On
a heavy sloping pitch Linby started uphill brightly and within the first five
minutes took an early lead when Caitlin Townsend fed the ball to Chloe Peat on
the right for her to shoot and see the keeper save only for Charlie Mills to be
on hand to bang in the rebound. Georgie Boyce started in Linby’s goal and was
soon in action defying Radcliffe time and time again with some great saves.
Radcliffe began to dictate play pushing the balls to the wings and giving
defenders Jaime Clifford and Daisy Dignum a torrid time, never allowing then to
settle and play the ball out to the Linby wings. Chloe Cope played well on the
left despite being right footed, battling back to help out and still trying to
play Mills in on Linby’s attacks. Radcliffe earned themselves a penalty when
Boyce faced with a one on one could only clip the attacker’s ankles as she
cleverly went round her. A well struck penalty wriggled through Boyce’s grasp
to even the scores at 1-1. Ellie Batey came on for a tired Mills and got stuck
into the forward role well, showing some clever touches on the ball. Townsend
played some great through balls out to Cope and Peat from her central position
and did a terrific amount of running to break up play and feed the wings.
The second half saw
Linby playing with the sun at their backs and downhill fully expecting to take
full advantage. Boyce in goal was outstanding, making some vital saves when
Radcliffe got the better of Clifford and Dignum at the back and she produced a
great tip round the upright when facing two Radcliffe players earning the
applause from all supporters. Townsend was dropping deeper into defence to help
out leaving Peat and Cope to feed Mills
in attack, helped with Boyce blasting the ball well over the halfway line for
Linby to run onto. Peat was unlucky on several occasions after great work on the
wings, testing the keeper with some well placed shots, meanwhile Boyce at the
other end defied Radcliffe every attack with a brilliant display of goalkeeping.
Mills showed great determination up front battling for every ball and running
the defence ragged. Towards the end of the match the heavy pitch began to tell
on both teams but the girls gave their all right to the end ensuring a nail
biting finale to a well played match by both teams.
Another good

A
close fought game for Linbys under 12s away to Gedling Southbank with both teams
giving there all which deservedly ended in a draw.
Linby started the brightest with
chances created by the Linby marauding midfield made up of Jena Illiffe ,
Courtney Csomor and Paige Housley. Linby attacked and created chances but were
unable to produce that finishing touch that has eluded them so much this season.
Elizabeth Williams
was also very bright up front with excellent control and link up play with the
midfield.
Credit to Gedling Southbank, who
rode their luck early but then created some good chances themselves. But they
were foiled by both the solid defence of Abbi Truman and Molly Slater and some
fantastic goalkeeping from Chloe Vernon.
The second half continued in very
similar vein with the play flowing end to end - it was very entertaining for the
neutral. Substitutes Shay Richardson and Jody Blacknell were introduced and
battled well against a strong, physical Gedling SB team.
Linby finally broke the deadlock
20 minutes into the second half when Lizzy picked the ball up in midfield
following a poor clearance from the keeper, and coolly finished from the middle
of Gedling’s half,
Gedling hit back hard and
continues to press the Linby goal and managed to get a goal with just 1 minute
of time left.
An unfortunate ending for Linby
but overall I think a draw was a fair result.

POM: Millie Rae - Vardy
Linby
Ladies played for the first time at their new home, Ravenshead Leisure Centre,
Longdale Lane, Ravenshead and started by scoring a dozen goals. Again, with a
very healthy squad to pick from Elle Brooks started in goal with a back four
that consisted of Emma Morrell, Lauren Wilson, Jessica Wibberley and Katie
Halligan. In front of them was the midfield of Millie-Rae Vardy, Zoe Hopewell,
Sarah Bill and Courtney Evans leaving Amber Denny(c) playing in the hole behind
Sianna Bennett. Leah Booth, Shannon Bird, Sophie Wardle and Amy Humphreys all
kept their tracksuit tops on waiting for their opportunity to impress the
management. Linby were soon into their stride and were one nil up thanks to a
well taken goal by the supporters player of the match, Zoe Hopewell. After some
good play on the right by Millie-Rae she helped the ball into the feet of ZOE
who hit a left foot rasper from 16 yards out into the bottom corner of the net,
1-0. The second soon followed and the difference in class between the two teams
was apparent so early in the game. Another good passing move allowed Sianna a
shot at goal which was saved by the feet of the keeper but she couldn't prevent
AMBER smashing the rebound into the roof of the net, 2-0. 10 minutes had passed
before Linby saw the oppositions net ripple for the third time. It was the
midfield dynamo ZOE who managed to latch onto a loose ball inside the 18 yard
box and loop her shot over the stranded keeper to put the game beyond Retford's
reach, 3-0. Before Linby scored their fourth Retford never managed to get the
ball over the half way line demonstrating the stubbornness of Emma, Lauren, Jess
and Katie as they battled for every loose ball before unloading to the creative
midfield of Millie-Rae, Sarah, Zoe and Courtney, allowing Linby to look
dangerous in attack. Courtney and Millie-Rae had their markers tied in knots
throughout the first half as they twisted and turned to make goal scoring
opportunities for their team mates. Amber grabbed her second of the game after
being picked out in the box from a great cross by her strike partner Sianna
Bennett. AMBER took one touch before coolly placing the ball in the corner of
the net making the art of finishing look easy, 4-0. Amber re payed the favour
for Sianna after intercepting a poor goal kick. Amber's pass found Millie-Rae
running in from the right who in turn picked out SIANNA who applied the easiest
of finishes to a good passing move, 5-0. The last goal before half time was
again scored by Linby who looked very dominant during the first 35 minutes. More
good passing drew the Retford girls towards the ball before Millie-Rae was
located completely unmarked on the right hand side of the penalty area.
MILLIE-RAE had time to settle before firing her shot passed the unprotected
keeper, 6-0. At half time Linby made 4 changes to the line up and moved
everybody around into different positions making it difficult for the reporter
to keep up with the changes. Sophie, Leah, Shannon and Amy were introduced into
the game as Millie-Rae, Courtney, Zoe and Sarah were given a rest. Lauren and
Jess went to play in the centre of midfield with Katie and Emma deputising for
them. Amy and Shannon played at full backs and Leah and Sophie occupying both
flanks giving the side a very different look. Linby continued to put pressure on
the Retford goal and it wasn't long before Jessica saw her name on the score
sheet with a brilliant strike from around 20 yard out. Jess's left foot has
always given opposition goalkeepers problems and she decided to give us all a
reminder of how good it is today. Her left foot pile driver was hit so hard that
it was still rising when it hit the back of the net and burning the keepers
fingers, 7-0. Sianna eventually got her second of the game having squandered a
number of chances that were harder to miss. That said Sianna worked the Retford
back four really hard today and they all know that they've been in a physical
game and will sleep well tonight. SIANNA'S second was slightly fortunate as
Amber's deflected effort fell to her feet giving her another tap in to make the
score 8-0. It was at this point that Retfords number 11 showed two Linby girls a
clean pair of heels as she ran from the half way line cut in towards goal and
unleashed a fantastic shot high into the roof of the Linby goal, 8-1. Zoe,
Millie-Rae, Sarah and Courtney were all introduced back into the game in place
of the industrious quartet of Sianna, Amber, Jessica and Lauren and it wasn't
long before Linby scored again with the Retford side becoming more tired as they
changed their keeper for the third time. ZOE again scored to get her first hat
trick of the season as she was played through from the half way line and go on
to finish with a great deal of confidence, 9-1. Probably the goal of the game,
for individual skill, came from Courtney Evans. COURTNEY collected the ball
outside the penalty area, drifted passed two defenders before curling the ball
into the far corner of the net to put her side 10-1 up. Like Sianna, Millie-Rae
could have scored 7 or 8 today but she did finish the game by scoring the last
two goals for Linby and bag herself a hat trick for good measure. Goal eleven
came from a high ball inside by Sophie, Zoe flicked it on with a fantastic
header for MILLIE-RAE to drive on and blast the ball home, 11-1. And the final
goal was another of good fortune for Millie-Rae who grabbed the rebound after
Sophie's goal bound effort came back of the post and fell kindly for MILLIE-RAE
to drill into the centre of the goal. It is fair to say that the Linby girls
haven't been challenged in the last 2 games having scored 22 with only 2 in
reply. But, they have played well and are looking confident going into a hard
fixture in the Notts Shield against a good Pegasus team. Keep up the hard work
girls and the good results will follow.
SCORERS - Zoe 3, Millie-Rae 3, Amber 2, Sianna 2, Courtney 1, Jessica 1.
Opposition Player of the Match - Millie-Rae Vardy, another good attacking
performance giving her defenders a nightmare whenever she had the ball at her
feet. Supporters Player of the Match - Zoe Hopewell, Zoe covered every blade of
grass twice today and capped her brilliant performance with a well earned hat
trick.

Linbys under 16s started brightly at Church lane
agains Keyworth united and could have been a goal up within the first 2 mins
but Bethany Wilcockson's shot was straight at the Keyworth keeper. It was
Leighanne Powles turn to test the keeper but again the shot was
straight at the keeper. Linby finally got the break through on the 12th min
when after great link up play by Laura "LJ" Cumberpatch and
Becky Lane saw Leighanne in space on the right side of the18 yard box,
she drilled a hard low shot which beat the keeper and was helped into the back
of the net by a Keyworth defender. Linby could have doubled there lead from
the kick off but Beth's strike was just wide of the post. Then on 20mins
after some good defending Linby broke and LJ played the ball down the
wing to Bernedette Piper who took on the defender cut inside and drove a low
shot past the advancing goal keeper to make the score 2-0. Linby had
most of the ball but couldn't convert chances in to goals at the other
end Linby kept a good line and the Keyworth attackers were off side 9 times
out of 10, when they did break either the defenders got back or Kayley Shaw
snuffled them out. On 30 mins Linby made the score 3-0, after some
nice play in the middle Beth found her self in a great shooting position
she let fly with a powerful shot which hit the Keyworth keeper square on, the
ball was cleared but only to the feet of Jasmin Bear who put the ball back in
and after a bit of a tangle with the goal keeper, Leighanne put the
ball in the back of the net. After this goal Linby slowed down and allowed
Keyworth to come back into the game and could of scored but for a great
save from Kayley, but Keyworth did pull a goal back on the 39 mins with a well
taken goal which Kayley got a hand to but could not keep it out. The
second half saw Keyworth come at Linby as they tried to to pull a
goal back, and they nearly did but for some last ditch defending from the back
four and Simone Jackson in the net. at the other end Linby were still causing
the Keyworth defence problems with Bernedette and Beth linking up well on
the left, Leighanne and Becky Lane also linking well on the right and LJ
and Jasmin bullying the midfield but the team had to be reshuffled when
Leighanne pulled up holding her hamstring, Leighanne went into the net
with Simone taking up a position in midfield and Jasmin, who was also
struggling with an injury went up front along side Beth. It was Beth who
nearly scored a fantastic goal when LJ passed the ball to Bernedette on
the left who took on the defender pulled the ball back to Beth who smashed
the ball but the Keyworth goalkeeper managed to get a hand to it and it
went just passed the post. Then on 65 mins with a great ball from Becky Lane
to Beth and then Beth to Jasmin who scored a goal but there was confusion as
the linesmen had flagged for off side but the ref played on as the
ball was intended for Beth who was not off side and when the ball was
played to Jasmin she was on side so the goal should of stood, but
both the linesmen and Keyworth manager started to question the ref's decision so
after talking to the ref we decided to take off the goal and award Keyworth a
free kick, but Jasmin was not to be denied and with 5mins left of the game it
was more or less an exact same move (but without a offside flag) that
saw Jasmin score Linby's Fourth of the game her sixth of the season and sees
her maintain her record of scoring in every game so far. Final score 4-1 well
done girls. Goals: Jasmin Bear 1, Bethany Wilcockson 1 , Bernedette Piper 1,
Leighanne Powles 1.

Linby
showed their intent from the KO pushing onto Wollaton and never really looking
back from there. Georgie Boyce in the Linby net was an interested onlooker for
most of the match only touching the ball 3 times in the first half, mainly due
to the fact Caitlin Townsend and Jaime Clifford were having a great game in
defence and pushing forward at every opportunity. Chloe Cope got the first goal
showing great poise and technique in front of goal to smash a waist high cross
from Chloe Peat into the back of the net. After more Linby pressure and some
great passing around the box, Townsend hit her first of the day, a great shot
from the edge of the area that the keeper could do nothing about. Charlie Mills
showed great enthusiasm and was full of running keeping the defenders busy as
was Ellie Batey playing alongside her. Mills was unlucky with a powerful
snapshot being deflected just wide. Cope on the left was having a great game,
holding her position well and tackling back when Wollaton tried to break
through. Peat on the right seemed to glide by the defenders, showing great
touches and playing intelligently with Clifford to get the crosses over. A rare
Wollaton attack saw Townsend break it up and surge forward to get her second of
the day, making it 3-0 to Linby. Hannah Elson came on for Batey and as she
settled in to her central role, became more involved in moving the ball forward.
The second half saw
all the Linby players wanting to get a goal, the first chance fell to Cope after
good pressure from Mills but her shot glanced off the upright.
After a corner
Clifford saw an opening and lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box for a
well deserved goal. Boyce in goal had to stand strong on a couple of occasions
when Wollaton broke with Linby having all their players in the Wollaton half of
the pitch. Peat had some strong runs into the Wollaton half firing just wide.
Linby started to play the ball about, Townsend and Clifford at the back using keeper
Boyce to good effect. Townsend hit another great shot from outside the area to
claim her hat trick for her birthday on Monday. Mills, Cope and Batey all had
chances with Batey very unlucky on a couple of times coming up against a brave
keeper who smothered well at her feet. Clifford again swept up at the back this
time feeding Elson who took the ball forward to pass Batey into the box only for
her to see her shot hit the post. Well done girls, a good game of attacking
football but we must use the width of the pitch to better effect in the next
game.
Player of the match
went to Ellie Batey for her best match to date, she grew in confidence as the
game went on and but for a good keeper would have opened her scoring account.

Abbie Truman
A
great performance by Linby in an enthralling cup match, that ebbed and flowed
but was unfortunately lost by Linby on the lottery of penalty kicks.
Both teams started brightly
without really causing the keepers too much hassle. Linby lined up with their
familiar resolute back 2 of Mollie Slater and Abbie Truman and the pair were
again on excellent form as Abbie produced and deserved the player of the match
award.
The midfield started brightly too
with Lizzy Williams playing well in the centre trying to play the ball and
battled well to win it back. Jena
Iliffe was a little terrier on the right wing and worked endlessly although had
to be withdrawn after 20 minutes and was not able to return to action suffering
from an illness. Shay Richardson started the game on the left side and put in a
powerful tackling performance and never stopped running.
Both Courtney Csomor and Jodie Blacknell were introduced in the first half and
had a good influence on the game.
It was on 15 minutes when the
first goal was struck and it was a bit of a soft one to be honest as a tame shot
from Sherwood on the right hand side somehow slipped through the near post.
After that Linby seemed to pick themselves up and continues to rally until 28
minutes of the first half when Courtney produced a strong run and shot down the
left that produced and excellent finish into the bottom corner. 1 – 1 perhaps
a fair result at half time.
The management are keen for the players to be much more determined and tried to
pick Linby up at half time but for some reason they we slow in the first 10
minutes of the second half and conceded another goal when the shot had been
stopped with some hesitant defending.
Sherwood continued to dominate the
next 5 minutes or so but Chloe Vernon was again in superb form in goal and
prevented a couple of 1 on 1’s to keep Linby in the game. Linby then started
to come good themselves and battled through the poor weather to produce a goal
from Paige Housley as she shot into the inside of the post keeping the ball nice
and low.
2 -2 at full time and then extra
time as the teams could not really be separated. Sherwood went onto narrowly win
3 – 2 on penalties.
A lot of positives to be taken away again as Linby have now gone on a run of 4
games without losing. Well done girls!

Final) POM: Amber Denny
Linby
girls under 13's traveled for the second time this season to the home ground of
Pegasus YFC on another cold and wet Sunday afternoon. With another healthy squad
of thirteen, Paul and Lee started with the following line up. Elle Brooks in
goal, Emma Morrell at right back, Lauren Wilson and Jessica Wibberley at centre
back and Katie Halligan at left back. The midfield four was again made up of
Millie-Rae Vardy, Zoe Hopewell, Sarah Bill and Courtney Evans with Amber Denny(c)
playing off Sianna Bennett up front. Sophie Wardle and Shannon Bird began the
game huddle amongst some cold parents. The game started off at a fast pace with
both keepers being brought into the action at an early stage and having to make
some brilliant saves to keep their teams in the game. Elle was looking very
assured and switched on from the first whistle and was constantly looking to
distribute the play through her full backs at every opportunity. The first goal
of the game belonged to Linby and it was the first time in two games that Linby
have been in the lead against a very physical and organised Pegasus side.
Millie-Rae received the ball on the right hand side of the pitch and was able to
turn her player and move the ball passed her in one motion putting her through
on the Pegasus goal. Once inside the 18 yard box MILLIE-RAE's shot was too hot
for the keeper to handle as it crept inside the far post, 0-1. Linby's lead
didn't last long as Pegasus came straight back at the Linby girls and bravery by
the Pegasus forward saw her head the ball into the Linby goal after it had come
crashing back off the crossbar, 1-1. Both teams continued to battle for the ball
as the pitch became heavy and began to cut up making the art of passing on the
deck very difficult with the poor conditions. Linby though looked very
determined today with some very strong tackles being put in all over the park
yet none more so than from Lauren, Jessica and Sarah who were constantly backed
up by Katie and Emma. Add that grit to the craft of Millie-Rae, Courtney and
Amber and you are always going to be dangerous and score goals with Sianna up
top waiting for her chance to strike. Sianna's chance did eventually come after
Amber's long range effort hit the upright and fell invitingly in the path of
SIANNA who blasted the ball into an unguarded net from 4 yard out, 1-2. Half
Time. Linby looked very good going into the break and Paul and Lee must have
been very happy at what they had seen particularly as the girls were playing
against a noticeable wind. That said I'm sure they encouraged the girls to stay
switched on as Pegasus are a very good team that never know when they are
beaten. The second half started like the first with both teams attacking and
having to defend very bravely. It was at this point of the match that Elle
showed everyone that she is a very good and brave keeper. Elle must have made 5
fantastic saves to keep Linby in front. Elle today looked very confident and
composed as she commanded her area well. Elle's performance spread confidence
through the team as they went on to score their third goal. Katie won the ball
on the left hand side of the pitch and played a short ball to Amber who was able
to spot the run of Sarah down the left wing and slide the ball through a couple
of defenders and into her path. SARAH collected the ball in her stride and cut
in towards the goal. Having run with the ball for thirty yards she still had the
power to crash the ball passed the Pegasus keeper giving her no chance, 1-3.
Again Pegasus would not lie down and caught the Linby
defence
as they counter attacked with some very quick players and scored their second of
the game, 2-3. Linby always have looked brilliant when they get the ball down
and move it quickly and this was evident again when Amber scored Linby's fourth
goal. Courtney collected the ball on the halfway line whilst out on the left
side of the park. She showed good vision as she passed the ball along the ground
and into the run of AMBER who took the ball on and fired the ball passed the
keeper from a very tight angle, 2-4. Linby were still made to battle as Pegasus
continued to press forward looking for another goal to get them back in the
game. In recent weeks teams have rolled over when we go a few goals ahead but
not Pegasus. They continued to make things difficult for Linby and looked very
dangerous on the break. Linby eventually got themselves on the score sheet for
the fifth time. A Pegasus defender tried to carry the ball out of the defence
and was robbed by Sianna some thirty yards away from goal. SIANNA immediately
sprinted towards the Pegasus goal before drilling a trade mark shot into the
bottom corner of the goal, 2-5. That had to be it!!!. The management introduce
Sophie and Shannon into the match in place of Emma and Katie who had worked
their socks off on a very tiring pitch. Pegasus continued to show their
stubbornness as they pulled two more goals, with 2 very debatable penalties,
bringing the scores back to, 4-5. One of the penalties was that bad the girl who
was tackled fell five yards outside the penalty area. This did not stop Linby
looking for more goals and they were rewarded when they forced a corner with
time apparently up on everyone's watch except the refs. The ball was swung in
from the right by Amber which was met by a towering header from MILLIE-RAE which
left the keeper with no chance, I think her dad enjoyed it most as he gave
everybody on the Linby line a re-run of the goal as he jumped up and down along
the touch line throwing his flag in the air, 4-6. Full Time. Today's game was a
very physical encounter with both teams committed to wining the game. It was a
brilliant game of football to watch and I enjoyed reporting on this game a lot
more than I did the last time these teams met. SCORERS - Sianna 2,
Millie-Rae 2, Amber 1, Sarah 1. Opposition player of the match - Amber Denny,
lead by example today and battled for every loose ball showing unrivaled
commitment. Supporters Player of the match - Elle Brooks, had possibly her best
game for Linby, showing bravery and good timing to make some fantastic saves and
keep her team in the game.

4 (League)
This
was a very hard fought victory in very testing conditions. Linby pressed hard
for most of the first half with the wind at their backs and Arnold defended
stoutly. Linby kept their passing game going despite some very physical
challenges from the opposition and were rewarded in the 18 minute with a
accurately placed low shot from Alex Francis. Linby continued on the attack and
scored a 2nd goal in the 25th minute when Hazel Fox guided an Abi Wetton corner
high into the net from 10 yds. After loosing their way a little due to some
unsporting play from Arnold before half time, Linby got back to their passing
game after the break. In a sweeping move from defence, Kate Marriott sent a 30
yd pass through to Abi, who took the ball on another 30 yds shrugging off the
defender before slotting in a beautiful low angled shot into the net. Despite
Arnold now having the advantage of the wind, Linby restricted their attacks with
stout defensive work and they continued to play their passing game out of their
own half. After 68 mins, Arnold got a goal back after a rare moment of
hesitation from Linby clearing the ball in the worsening conditions. Linby
quickly put paid to any hope of their opponents getting back in the game, when a
brilliant 30 yd run from Alex was finished with another trade mark Abi low
powerful finish in the 71st minute. It wasn't possible to pick a PoM, as this
performance was so typical of recent matches with everyone working hard for each
other. Bring on Southwell next week! Scorers: Abigale Wetton 2; Hazel

Great game for the neutral....Linby started the
game like a freight train and took the lead within the first 5 Min's thanks to
a nice through ball by Jasmin Bear that was dispatched by Bethany Wilcockson,
but the lead was short lived as from the restart Market Warsop attacked the
Linby goal and after the ref failed to see the lines men's flag the score was
1-1. This did not deter Linby and again they attacked and after some good
quick passing they were back in front again it was Bethany who was put
through on goal by Laura Cumberpatch to make it 2-1. Linby then doubled there
lead as Beth scored her 3rd of the game, this time it was Becky Lane providing
a great ball for Beth to run onto and score 3-1 the game looked about
wrapped up, but the oppositions head's didn't fall and they kept trying the
long ball which finally paid off for them and their striker put the ball past
Kayley Shaw in goal to make the score 3-2 and with half time approaching this
looked like being the half time score, but Linby won a corner after some
good pressing work by Becky Lane, Jasmin delivered one of her trade make
corners which passed every one in the middle of the 18 yard box and after two
Market Warsop defenders ran into each other Bernedette Piper smashed the
ball into the back of the net to make it 4-2 at half time. The
second half started and Linby controlled the game superbly, Market
Warsop could not get out of their own half and when they did either the back
four or Kayley in the net dealt with it easily, but Linby
seemed to lose there concentration and let there opponents come back to
make the score 4-3. Linby responded well from this and within 2mins the 2 goal
lead was restored thanks to a great move that saw Leighanne Powles get on to
the score sheet 5-3. again Linby could of scored more but Stacie Crump in
the Warsop goal was superb making some great saves. Warsop then
broke after a lucky deflection which saw Kayley coming out of her net and
going for a 50/50 ball with the Warsop striker, the Ref deemed it to be a
penalty but the striker blazed the ball over the top, but within 2
mins Warsop did score their 4th of the game to make it 5-4, this made
for a frantic last 3mins but Linby held on to go through to the semi final
stage. a great performance from the girls in really bad weather, thanks to
Market Warsop for their hospitality and lets have the same again next week

POM: Lauren Jubb
It
was a daunting prospect to travel away to undefeated top of the table Retford
United, it wasn't helped with a number of Linby players absent due to a college
trips and illness, but the 11 players who made the trip did not disappoint as
they put on a terrific display and made things difficult for there hosts. A
bitterly cold afternoon saw Linby start badly as they conceded a sloppy goal
within the first 3 minutes. It was the wake up call they needed and as the game
went on Linby were soon finding there feet and were contesting for the ball. The
back four of Lauren Jubb, Emma Hunka, Laura Muir and Liz Terry were magnificent
as they kept Retford at bay. Any long range shots were dealt with by good
keeping from the ever dependable Natasha Bird. Leia Smithson down the left flank
was driving the ball forward and playing the ball into the path of strike
partners Courtney Walters and Emma Crump. Captain Laura Knight was leading by
example as she ran and battled hard to win the ball in the middle of the park.
Retford increased there lead just before the break with a long range lofted shot
just dipping over the finger tips of Natasha in goal. At half time Linby made
the change to release Laura Knight upfront and Emma Crump to play in mid-field.
The warmth of the changing rooms may have been a contributing factor as Linby
felt the cold when the returned to the pitch and were slow off the mark as
Retford yet again scored a quick sloppy goal for 3 -0. It would have been all to
easy to let there heads slip and gift Retford more rewards but these 11 players
had other ideas as the played there football to the final whistle. Throughout
the remainder of the second half Linby matched ther opposition and went agonisingly
close when Laura Knight slipped the ball through for Courtney Walters who had
the keeper to beat, but with an outstretched keeper who just got her fingers to
the ball and deny Linby a much deserved consolation goal. Emma Crump partnered
by Rachael Henson impressed in the middle of the park as she battled well
despite Emma being wrestled to the ground! Louise Rivett worked
hard up and down the left flank, Laura Muir had an excellent game defending and
clearing her lines as well as covering, but the player of the match today went
to right back Lauren Jubb who defended magnificently and always looked to play
the ball out. Well done girls today it just shows what you are capable of. :)

POM: Lauren Betteridge
Having
played only 1 other game during November, the U14’s now travelled to Radcliffe
in an attempt to progress to the semi-finals of the Notts Shield – all the
other teams having completed last weekend. It was – lets be honest – one-way
traffic… against 10 players, Linby played different keepers in either half;
Charley Mclaren opening took 21 minutes to touch the ball, while Becca
Collingwood taking the mantle for the second period had to wait for 14 minutes.
On a heavy surface, the barrage on the Radcliffe goal opened with Lauren
Betteridge and Sammy Barlow both firing shots at the keeper within 5 minutes. It
was obvious that a slick passing game would be extremely difficult and this was
emphasised as Sammy opened the scoring on 7 minutes. Short, sharp passes from
Katrina Bloomer and Emily Keeling on the D of the box ended at Sammy’s
foot and she lifted the ball high over the outstretched arms of the keeper. The
second, within a minute of the restart was similarly simple, as Sammy picked up
on a through pass and slotted past the keeper again. The balance of play was
never in doubt as Helen Marriott and Jade Benniston jumped on any ball that
threatened to break the halfway line. Their interplay and coverage of each other
has never been better, and this duo smothered every break with simple, measured
and assured authority. As the half continued the only question really was if the
ladies could actually get the ball inside (or under – no names Eleanor or
Elle) the posts. The pitch by now increasingly heavy played a part in the third
goal as a goal kick fell to Eleanor Brooks. Returning it with interest closed
the first half account with a 25 yard finish. With the sun falling from the sky,
and the temperature dropping as fast, the second half was a race against the
light. Gabi Oxley building on an earlier hard tackling performance, moved to the
centre of the attack. Kirsty Peat – terrorising her opponents in the second
half as she left off in the first, crossed to Emily, who slipped the ball
forward. Gaby pounced and hammered the ball past the defenceless keeper from 3
yards. The next goal was perhaps the most simple, but probably one of the most
satisfying. A swift move in the box, and a signal to the thrower; Kirsty
‘Delap’ launched her missile and Sammy received, trapped, turning and
despatched to complete her hat-trick. Completing the scoring was fitting both in
the scorer and method. Sammy picked up in midfield and pushed the ball through
the gaps in the Radcliffe defensive line. Fitting because the half had seen such
balls from Kat, Eleanor, Elle Croucher, Sophie Beldham in abundance, and more
than fitting because the receiver was Kirsty. Taking the ball 30 yards out, she
controlled the ball and beat two defenders and the keeper. And the player of the
match … went to a player who not only played her heart out in a strange
position, but also made selfless passing into an art … Lauren. Tired legs
closed out the game but the result put the girls into a winning mentality to
face Arnold next week in the League Cup. Scorers:

So often against Southwell, the Linby girls have
played well and scored first, but then capitulated late on. Today they were
determined not to let that happen and blitzed the bewildered visitors, and
reigning League Champions, with a three goal salvo in the opening 15
minutes that saw them stretch their unbeaten run in the league to 7
games. Linby were fastest out of the blocks
and had created three quality chances before Alex Francis added the finishing
touch to a Hazel Fox shot which the keeper could not hold to open the
scoring on 8 minutes. Shortly afterwards Southwell had their first
effort with a long range shot, but Linby immediately replied with a
second goal after Abi Wetton followed up a Kate Marriott shot to gleefully
volley home. The Linby Girls were dominating the midfield, and creating chance
at will, so it came as no surprise when they netted a third after 14 minutes
when Kate battled well to work herself an opportunity which she finished with
aplomb from distance. Abi shot wide as Linby continued to dominate, with good
work from Foxy out wide and the industrious Alex Francis. Whenever Southwell
threatened to put their game together, they were frustrated by a Linby team
that were fighting for every ball and defending impressively right from the
front, to an awesome back four. There was an unfortunate lengthy delay
for what looked like a nasty rib injury to a Southwell player who was unable
to carry on, and our good wishes go out to her. When the game re-started,
Linby carried on looking threatening but there was no addition to the
scoreline by the interval. Half Time, a thoroughly deserved 3
0. The second half started as the first had ended with Abi going close to
extending the lead after only 2 minutes, before Shannon Garlick unleashed a
thunderbolt which the Southwell keeper did well to push against the bar. Kate
also went close again with two efforts. However Southwell began to exert
more of an influence, and with 12 minutes gone seemed to be getting more of
the ball and forced Linby keeper Eleni Gospel into a brave dive at the feet of
an onrushing striker to maintain the Linby advantage. Less than 2 minutes
later she was called upon again, and responded well to snuff out the danger.
The balance of play was now more even and although the game flowed from
end to end, Linby still looked the more likely side to score again. With
20 minutes gone, Alex shrugged off a couple of tackles to get in a shot
before Southwell replied with a couple of shots just wide of the target. In
the closing 10 minutes of the game Linby regained their composure and Eleni
was called upon just once again to come off her line to thwart the Southwell
attack and claim possibly the most lucrative "clean sheet bonus" in
the history of the Notts Girls and Ladies League! As the end of a thoroughly
deserved victory approached, there was one last chance for the supporters to
warm their hands as Rosie Bingley netted Linby's fourth with the last kick of
the game. Scorers: Alex Francis,

After two previous games between these teams
with both ending 5-4, you would of thought this game would be a high scoring
game but that was not the case, Linby started the brighter of the two teams
and should of been in front in the first 2mins but Beth W'ilcockson's shot was
just wide. Linby continued to press and after some nice work down the left by
Bernedette Piper Linby were awarded a corner, Jasmin Bear took the corner and
in typical fashion she scored from it 1-0, Linby were playing strong all
over the pitch and limited Market Worsop to a few long shots that Kayley
Shaw in goal kept out easy. Linby hit the post twice and and could
have doubled there lead just before half time after a Market Warsop
defender handled the ball, Laura Cumberpatch laid the ball off to Jasmin who smashed
the ball but it rebounded off the crossbar 1 - 0 at half time. The Second
half saw Market Warsop out of the traps first and fired in some shots which
Kayley made some great saves to keep her team in front. Linby played
some good football at times and was unlucky not to get a second goal with
Becky Lane covering every blade of grass she was in defence one minute
and trying to put Beth and Leighanne Powles in at the other end, Linby finally
got the second goal, again from a corner by Jaz which was turned in by Becky
Lane who deserved her goal 2-0 with 10 mins left. But 2 mins later Warsop
had slashed the deficit by half but the ball had crossed the by line and
it should have been a goal kick, this was not seen by the ref nor
the linesman Kayley stopped playing so did the defenders but the goal
stood 2-1, this made for a nervous last 5mins and when the Warsop striker
broke the off side trap and was through on goal she should of done better but
her tame shot was collected by Kayley, Linby thought it was going to be there
day but with 30 seconds left the Warsop striker made sure she scored
firing the ball past Kayley to make the score 2-2. Lesson's need to be
learned 1.Play to the end. 2.Take your chances when you get them. Goals:
