PILLAR
OF THE COMMUNITY.
Since December 2002 when the
award was launched, 110 clubs have achieved the FA’s highest accolade – The FA
Community Club status. Linby Ladies F.C in partnership with F.C Interski and
Mansfield Town Ladies F.C are the eighth club in Nottinghamshire giving the
county the most Community Clubs in the country.
FA
Community Clubs adhere to the core principles set out in the FA’s blueprint
for English football. The Charter for Quality, namely that the needs of the
player should come first and that the game should be the teacher.
In
practice, that means providing playing opportunities from youth level all the
way through to adult, running teams for male and female players and providing
opportunities to footballers with disabilities. The club must also forge
relationships with local schools to encourage young people to pursue their
interest in the game. Each team has a qualified coach with the aim being to
place the emphasis on enjoyment, rather than results.
The
FA Community Club represents the pinnacle of the FA Charter Standard Club
system, which rewards excellence at every level.
CHARTER STANDARD

Standard was set up in year 2000 as a kite mark for all clubs to aspire to. The

demonstrate required standards, raising standards and reaching excellence. Linby
Chairman Andrew Eastwood was honoured to receive the award on behalf of the club

season to maintain the clubs high standards and providing all the girls with the

Linby kick
start their Active Sports programme
Active
Sports is a 5 year development plan targeting
9 sports, one of which is girls football. It
is mainly concerned with getting more 10 –16 year olds to join clubs and help
the better ones get more support in developing their skills. It
is jointly funded by Sport England lottery, local Authorities and the Football
Association. There are 4 stages to the Active Sports framework.
1 Inter
schools competition and “Kick Start” coaching sessions.
2 Club
Development
3

Coaching Centres
Linby
Ladies are one of the clubs involved in the delivery of the first year of the
plan. They ran an 8 week coaching course for girls aged under 12 and then the
girls had the opportunity to join the football club. The sessions were taken by
club coaches to provide a definite link for the participants.
Clubs involved in the Active Sports programme can access education opportunities
e.g. First Aid Courses, Sports Coach U.K. courses as
well as funding towards football association and other appropriate courses.
Active Sports aims to support the future development of the club.
Linby
Ladies are an excellent example of a Football Association Charter Standard Club
working with Active Sports.

Charter Standard Awards.

L TO R: Jamie
Redknapp, Steve Parkins, Carol Eastwood and Mo
Marley.
Liverpool and England football star Jamie
Redknapp was the guest of honour at the launch of the F.A Charter
Standard for clubs awards at the Lancashire F.A headquarters.
Linby Colliery Welfare Ladies F.C were one of only 36 clubs to be
presented with the award. Our very own club secretary Carol
received the award on behalf of the club from Jamie Redknapp,
Steve Parkins (director of the national game) and Mo Marley
(Everton and England Ladies captain).
The Charter Standard has been introduced as
part of the Charter for quality and to raise standards as well as
recognising good practice and rewarding quality. Linby now have
all their coaches qualified to a minimum of J.T.M and various
codes of conducts as well as equal opportunities and child
protection policies in place. Linby are amongst a unique array of
clubs throughout Englands footballing fraternity, by being one of
the first nationally to be recognised.
The Charter Standard is there for all clubs to
aspire too, by raising their standards in order that parents and
children can now demand a minimum standard of provision from
their club. We at Linby are over the moon that the F.A have
recognised our efforts and have given Linby their stamp of
approval. We don't think for one minute that we have arrived,
this is just the beginning. We now have the infrastructure and
foundations well in place to progress forward with our ambitious
plans.
In September 2001 Linby's chairman Andrew
Eastwood was awarded the Nottinghamshire and Regional F.A Charter Standard Football coach of the year which was presented
before the final of the County Cup at Meadow Lane
