WINDOWS PAINTing TUTORIAL

This tutorial covers

  1. Opening and using windows paint.
  2. Saving your work.
  3. Sending it on to me(or whoever).

Opening and using windows paint

As in the image below; simply left click on start, move mouse to programs, over to accessories, onto paint and then click left button on mouse again. this should open windows paint application.

Next you have to use you have to do your painting; if your not used to drawing or painting the best advice I can give is; dont be precious, have fun, you can do as many as you like. With this in mind lets have a look at some of the basics.

tool bar

When you have the paint facility open you will notice the tools bar form this you can choose which drawing tool you want to use. there is pencil, brush, and rubber, and all have different thickness's to choose from from just underneath the tool bar buttons.

Whether you are working purely from your imagination, or from an image on or off the computer screen, its best to get something on the page immediatley to take away all that imposing empty space. the quickest way to do this is with the fill option.

Click on the fill button, then on one ofcolor bar the colours in the colour bar; move cursor over blank page and left click mouse. (There easy)

You will notice in the left of the colour box you have two boxes that show which colours are active. If you right click on a different colour it shows up behind the front colour; this means you can use two colours at once by using the left and right mouse buttons, a great tool that helps alot when you want to jump back and forth between colours. (now have as go)

SAVING YOUR WORK

file open pic

Now you are happy with your work; go to file at the top left of the screen, click and go down to save as, click again and you should get a box like this one.

copy box pic

This is the window that will let save your work.

Underneath the save as in the top left of the box it sayssave in it should say my documents. In the main space of the save as window is where your painting files, and any other files that you save will be stored. next down is the file name; you can call your work anything you want. and finaly thesave as type box...

Now, the reason that my picture on the right has all these options including the one in blue which says JPEG File Interchangable format is because I have clicked on the arrow to the right of the save as type box. you click on your arrow here and if you get the JPEG option, click it. If you dont leave things as they are and press save at bottom right area.

Thats you save your painting in your my-documents folder..... Now lets send.

SENDING YOUR WORK

Now you have your painting saved we have to send it via-email to the competition address By clicking on this link you will ativate your email program which will open a new message box with the competiton address already written in. new message pic

You can choose which box to write in by using your mouse and left-clicking in the different boxes.

The box that says To: is where the address to where the email is going is written.

The box with Cc: is where you can write your own address, (not necessery as its sent automaticaly).

The subject box is for writing a descripton of the message you are sending (you could write my entry to the painting competition.)

The large box is doc to emailfor the main body of the message I havent written anything in yet but you could write whatever comment you want to make about your work or anything else.......Now the tricky bit.

If you havent done this before; notice in the figure to the right there has appeared a new box under the suject box called attach: this is because we have added the painting to the email. (the whole point of this exercise incase you'd forgot)

we do this by opening your my-documents folder on the same page as the email box and dragging the my painting icon over to it. Put the cursor over the icon and hold ctrl+left mouse button at the same time and drag it over then release. (if you dont want to keep a copy of your work you can just drag it over with the left mouse button held down.) Now just press the send button under file and THATS IT.
