Does your child take an interest in Chess? That is very promising indeed! There are very few things that develop an ability to think ahead  than chess. And, as you know, it is being able to think ahead that makes all the difference in getting ahead in life! Too many children today never think of consequences of their actions.
We are very lucky in Leeds to have a Junior Chess Association of adults who run the Junior Chess Club for children with ages 7-16. Your next step is to get in touch with them.

BEST SCHOOLS IN LEEDS?
Well, we may be a little biased. Why should a school that has a Chess team be better than the rest?

It shows they are not narrowly  bound to the National Curriculum.
It shows that they have keen teachers who will go that much further.
Chess helps any child to think ahead to the consequences of her or his actions. This is vital in life and yet is hard to teach  in class.
Research studies demonstrate the benefits to children of learning to play chess include:

Increased self-confidence and respect for others
Enhanced problem-solving, logic and reasoning skills
Organized work habits and increased patience and persistence
An improved attitude toward school and improved attendance
Improved emotional control and mood management
Sustained efforts to achieve personal goals
