Amanda Hipson is joint winner of the
English Girls Under 18 competiion in 2007!She previously won the North of England U14 Girls championship 2004 and 2005 and U18 champion 2006. UK chess challenge Mega Final age group winner 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Qualified for the tera-final 2005 and 2006. She finished 3rd in the prestigious York and District Junior event out of 38 Juniors aged up to 18. Amanda has played for the county girls team at U11, U14 and U18 level. She was part of the U14 county girls team in 2006 that won the national championship. ![]() She has also played for the full county U16 team (one of very few girls to make the county open teams). She has had loads of seconds and thirds in various competitions. March 2007: she was 5th in the Yorkshire Junior U18 championships (which was all boys apart from her). May 2007 Harry Li wins the Under 9 section of the North Yorkshire Mega Final. That makes his fourth win in a row there. Last year he won the Under 8 and in the two previous years he won the U7! July 2006 He won Under 8 section of Northern Section of The British Land Chess Challenge! Harry is going from strength to strength but is just one of the thriving junior members at Alwoodley. James Bowler was second in the Under 9s!
