John Hipshon

All Members of the Club should bear in mind the following when there are children playing in the Club. If you see or hear anything that might even suggest improper behaviour towards, or in the presence of, a child by any member of the Club or any other adult in the Community Centre then, as soon as possible, please inform our Child Protection Officer or, in his absence, a Club Officer. Ideally you should make a written record as soon as possible after any such incident when the details are fresh in your mind.

Remember the following CODE OF CONDUCT.

This is both a guide for yourself and to what to expect from others.

DO remember that language and behaviour which are acceptable in an adult bar can be inappropriate when children are present.
DO avoid situations that compromise your relationship with young people and are unacceptable within a relationship of trust.
DO remember that someone else might misinterpret your actions, no matter how well-intentioned.
DO plan activities so that there is at least one other person present or within sight or hearing. This applies to such activities as one-to-one training and travelling to or from chess events.

Do NOT have any inappropriate physical or verbal contact with others.
Do NOT show favouritism to any individual.
Do NOT make suggestive remarks or gestures even in fun.
Do NOT let suspicion, disclosure or allegation of abuse go unrecorded or unreported.
Do NOT rely on just your good name to protect you.
Do NOT believe 'It could never happen to me'.
