Walking the West Anglian Way

Janet and Roger Moreton are following on from the great success of the walks last year that followed the Fen Rivers Way and have now completed a walk in the other direction.....South!

Following the route of the Cambridge to Liverpool Street railway they have been linking stations with interesting walks all the way from Cambridge to Cheshunt.

All the route was walked during winter 2002/3 and the dates of the walks were as shown below.

Saturday 2nd November      Cambridge to Whittlesford   11 miles

Saturday 16th November     Whittlesford to Newport     11 miles

Saturday 30th November     Newport to Bishops Stortford 11 miles

Saturday 18th January          Bishops Stortford to Harlow Town 10 miles

Saturday 8th February          Harlow Town to Broxbourne 11 miles

Saturday 22nd February       Broxbourne to Cheshunt 11 miles

This series of walks was very well supported not just by people from Cambridge, but from all along the route. Lots of old friends turned out to help create this new route. Using the railway is very Eco friendly and is sure to provide people in years to come with an important recreational resource. I well remember when I lived in London, escaping for the weekend into some countryside was an important weekly ritual. This route is a great way to combine exploration of some interesting countryside with lots of healthy exercise. With no use of the infernal combustion engine, you feel even more virtuous!
