| The First Section of the Fens Rivers Way was opened in
1994. In that spring a lot of had to be done to get the footpaths
in a usable state. Vegetation had to be cleared, in some places bushes
had grown in the middle of the footpath. Way marks had to be put up as
well as finger posts. These pictures show some of the activity that went
into the project. These pictures show the physical work that was done.
But of course there was also a lot of activity indoors, raising funds,
planning the new Bridge and agreeing the details of the route.

Decimator Day occurred about a week before the way marking. A group of volunteers armed with a decimator, punts and a very large outboard motor traveled up the cam cutting the flood bank path as they went. In one day they cut 8kms of footpath. |
| Here is the Decimator team quite exhausted at the end of the day. On the very left is Francis Woodhead, who had the idea of creating the footpath in the first place. | ![]() |

A new wood has been planted near Clayhithe and the Association has supported the venture. This is the consultation meeting between the village and the Woodland trust to discuss what the wood should look like. The Fen Rivers passes through the wood on the western bank. |
