The Fen Rivers Way Holt Fen Bridge Project

The Fen rivers way has always had a problem at Holt fen....the bridge was at first impassable. Then due to its unstable state the river authority dismantled this ancient structure. So we had a gap in our route which had to be filled. In the mean time walkers had to make their way up to gravel bridge....a 1.5 mile detour. Well to say we had problems with replacing this bridge is an understatement, costs escalated and the bridge began to look like an unattainable target. But the committee raised substantial funds which were added to a large amount of money from the Country Council and East Waste  in the form of the land fill tax. Eventually a design was adopted....after several expensive abortive attempts. The final structure pleased everybody and is one of the most impressive structures on the Cambridgeshire footpath network.
