The New Cuckoo Bridge

Cuckoo Bridge near Ely was out of action for several months as a result of structural instability in the wooden bridge which has stood on the site for many years.  The design for the new bridge is shown below. Work is complete and the bridge has been open for walkers since last year.

The bridge is formed from steel and timber with concrete supports. It really is a delightful structure and well worth a visit. The surrounding reed beds and open water are home to a wide variety of birds and other wildlife. It has been said that otters have been seen in the vicinity, certainly there are mink here as well.
