Baptism

Please note . There is an adult baptistery under the floor of St John's Community Church.

For those considering the baptism (Christening) of their infants with the use of a font, we offer what we call a First Steps. Those who decide they would prefer a Thanksgiving Service or Naming Ceremony are also welcome to attend.

First Steps Meetings

These three meetings for Parents and prospective Godparents are held at St John’s Community Church, High Street, Chase Terrace.

Meeting 1. This is an informal supper held on a Saturday evening 7.00pm for 7.15pm start. This is an opportunity for you to bring along the prospective Godparents and members of the family e.g. Grandparents, Auntie’s and Uncles, to meet and enjoy a meal, as a guest of the Vicar and/or other Church members in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.

Meetings 2 & 3 take place on a Thursday evening at 7.00pm again in St John’s Community Church.

Meeting 2. First Steps A…. We will think about the difference between Thanksgiving and Baptism.

Meeting 3. First Steps B…. We will look at the promises and declarations of faith that are made by parents and godparents in the baptism service.

Parents are asked to attend both sessions A and B before making arrangements concerning the baptism of their child. Godparents are also encouraged to attend both sessions.
