BUS HISTORY:

CHAPTER 4
Blackburn Transport - The End

At midnight on Sunday 21st January 2007 Blackburn Transport became a wholly owned division of Blazefield's Lancashire United.

In late February the five Leyland Olympians, taken out of service the previous year, No.'s 21-25 were sold and in March Leyland Olympians No. 39 became the last vehicle to be re-painted into the Schools + livery.

The influence and policies of Blazefield/Transdev began to take effect from mid-March when the first of the fleet of new buses, Wright/Volvo B7RLE, arrived in Blackburn for driver training purposes ahead of the full batch of vehicles.....

....and this is where the story of Blackburn Transport must end.

FOOTNOTE:
After 126 years, millions of miles travelled and passengers carried Blackburn Transport was no more. From innovative operations of tramways to modern designed buses, Blackburn Transport has always been at the fore-front of passenger carrying transport and it's name has become well respected and well-loved during that time and I, for one, have been proud and privileged to be associated with it.

For the older generation, memories of the tramways and early bus operation will fade as it will for the generation that was brought up on PD2's and Atlanteans and latterly on Darts and Tridents, but hopefully those memories will live on for many years to come.

Thank-you Blackburn Transport, it was a wonderful ride.
