| The Felstead Kennel thought to be be one of the oldest established of any breed in the Country. Mr. Harold Snow started breeding dogs in 1913 using the affix 'Brynmelyn' the name of his home in Neath, South Wales. He started by breeding Irish Terriers then later added Wire and Smooth Fox Terriers. The Felstead affix started in 1926 taken from the horse that won the Derby that year. The Welsh Terriers were introduced shortly after this. The first Welsh Terrier Champion was Felsteads "what's Up" Whelped in 1934, at that time they only had about 10 dogs, but over the years the kennel has expanded. There's a story about Spitfire, which | ||||||
| brings us to Harolds son Emlyn, who has been part of Felstead since the age of six. Spitfire was whelped in 1946 and won seven champion certificates in 1948 and proceeded to have five litters. When Emlyn completed his Army service he started to show Spitfire again, and won a further two champion certificates in 1955, when she was 9 years old!!. Not many dogs of any breed can match that, let alone after having five litters. | ||||||

| Sadly Harold Snow passed away in 1979, and Emlyn
took over the Felstead Kennels, he was helped by his close friend Mr Ken
Moran. Since getting his first ticket in 1950 with Felstead Dictator he has gone on to produce an incredible number of Champions, Felstead has over the years become known for its strict line breeding and for the deep colours of it's stock, jet black and deep tan. |

On a sadder note in January 2000, Mr Ken Moran passed away, Ken had been with Felstead for 44 years, and is sorely missed by everyone at Felstead. Ken had been helping out at the kennels for many years, both with Harold then with Emlyn, when Ken first became ill, Emlyn was a partener in a successful building company, it was at this time that Emlyn's two Daughters, Helen and Kathryn helped at the kennels during the week, all the trimming and preperation. | |||||||
| was carried out at the kennels by Emlyn. When Emlyn retired he and Ken draw the plans of the new kennel's. "Felstead" has allway's played an important part in the Snow's family life, and priority has always been given to the dogs. | ||||||||
