Painting has always been a part of David's life with his earliest recollectons being the times when he used to sit on the hay bales at his parents farm and draw the countryside. His love of wide open spaces and atmospheric conditions all come from this time.

By far his most enjoyable subject throughout school he followed his love of the subject by attending Newcastle College of Art and Design.

A varied employment followed during which art played a wide and important role either within the workplace or simply as a means of unwinding at the end of a long day.

When redundancy came in the late 1980's He returned to university and on completion embarked on a full time career in the subject that had been such an important part of his life.

Fundamental to David's art style is the use of a limited colour palette and the vast majority of his works are completed using no more than 5 colours. His much sought after 'monotonal' pieces are the limited palette at it's absolute minimum, just one colour.
