Half-Yearly AGM

To be held Friday the 5th of October 2007 at 8.00 p.m at St. Andrew’s Church Hall, Frimley Green .

Speaker: Mr Ian Brown, Director of the Basingstoke Canal Authority

Ian has lived near the canal for most of his life and had developed a strong relationship with the Basingstoke Canal when in 2003 after retiring from a career with the NHS, he chose to work part time as a maintenance officer for the canal centre. He made a meteoric rise to become Director of the Basingstoke Canal Authority in just two years. During that time he worked as a senior ranger, which made him very aware of the many challenges to be faced with the canal and its structure.

The Basingstoke canal is a major public amenity as well as a crucial water management structure in the area with a robust relationship to our three villages. The canal has a positive impact on the local area by delivering recreation, conservation and protecting our heritage. Ian will speak about the future of the canal, its sustainability and how it can meet the public’s expectations.
