Annual General Meeting
To be held at St. Andrew's Church Hall, Frimley Green
Friday 20th April 2007 at 8.00 p.m. Speaker: David Whitcroft
Members attend free. Join on the night: £1 per household per year Our grateful thanks to Angela Mitchell for taking the minutes of the last meeting. Michael Gove thanked Angela O’Connell for her hard work in ensuring that local residents could retain access to the Hatches after it had been fenced off by the owners. Michael supported the Society’s position in opposing TAG’s application to double the number of weekend flights as it would severely impact the quality of life of residents. It is agreed that we need new housing in our villages, but it should be matched by increases in infrastructure first. The question of closure hanging over Frimley Park or Royal Surrey A and E departments would place a strain on whichever ‘survived’ and account should he taken of extra residents. The public forum is where our members put questions to our MP and local councillors. Housing was an important topic. The loss of back gardens to blocks of flats was deplored. Gardens are classed as brownfield sites but in fact are environmentally very important, especially for birds and wildlife. Members felt that the demand was for family homes with gardens and or bungalows. SEERA calls for Surrey Heath to provide 200 dwelllings for the next ten years and yet there is a possibility for to 4000 on the Dettingen Army site. Other subjects raised included concern about traffic speed around schools and on Coleford Bridge Road; the speed indicators in Mytchett were felt to be very effective, the Surrey Police are seeking volunteers to man ‘speed guns’, a mirror on the corner of Hamesmoor Road was requested, extra parking on Henley Drive due to users of the pool and the difficulty of exiting onto Frimley Green Road, the replacement of the bus shelter on the Green with a heritage shelter. future plans for the old Deepcut fire station and Cheswyks school. The impact of special protection area (SPA) status on heathland by English Nature and the financial situation of the Basingstoke Canal. Helping Hands needs volunteers for one or two hours per week.
