To reply to any of these requests, please see my 'Contact' page for my email address.
Firstly, requests from me:
I would really appreciate a copy of any Drax, Dracas(s) or Drakes birth, marriage & death certificates, and other documents such as Wills, that you may have.
Does anyone have any old family photos, especially those with named individuals or family homes? I would really appreciate a scanned copy of any photos that are connected with the Drax, Dracas(s) or Drakes families in any way.
I would be pleased to receive anything unusual, such as war exploits or Military records, about any 'Drakes' individual, or even an old 'family tradition'. These are the 'flesh' to the bare bones of any family research and quickly turn a 'family tree' into a 'family history'.
I would appreciate any information about the 'Drakes' & 'Drax' families who were fishermen in the Humber & Grimsby area. Also, any information about the Lincolnshire watermen, who used boats to transport goods to and from inland using the north Lincolnshire rivers, especially the river Ancholme, and the Isle of Axholme.
I would really appreciate hearing from anyone with access to a list of those who came over with Henry II, or his mother Matilda, from Normandy. I am especially interested in anything about those that Henry II gave lands to 'in Kent' about 1154, and those who were captains of Falaise in the 12th to 14th centuries.
Does anybody know what happened to all the gravestones, memorials and the bodies at St. John Zachary Church, Gresham Street, City of London, after it was burnt down during the Great Fire of London in 1666? The ruin remained until at least 1844, when one memorial was removed to a nearby church. The site, which was used as part of the Home Defence of London in WWII, was turned into a garden by the Worshipful Society of Goldsmiths in 1994/5.
If you are related to these surnames, please contact me with details of your relationship, and a tree if possible, and I will do my best to help you.
Requests from my contacts:
I have received a request for West Indian 'Drakes' information, especially those associated with Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago and St. Lucia. If anyone out there can provide any such data, especially a tree, no matter how small, I'd be very pleased to receive it.
I've had a request for anything about the 'Drakes' family in Rhodesia or South Africa; please can anyone help, maybe with photos, memories, documents, or official records?
I recently received the following email from a South African contact, who had traced me via this website. She kindly sent me the information she already had, and I extracted her tree from my records in reponse to which she wrote, " I am in awe, this constitutes an amazing amount of work and I really appreciate what you have done here. I have read through the 12 generations but will have to go through far more carefully to fully understand and place everyone. Ellie"
A contact tells me that there are very few 'Drakes' in Canada, and that most of the ones she is aware of are black. She has asked me for help with her 'Drakes' line in Nova Scotia, who came from Barbados and some of whom returned there. Please can anyone help her, and do you know any 'Drakes' families in Canada?
Though I don't normally get involved with researching the 'Drake' surname, except where it is involved in a Drax/Drakes tree, I have been asked for help with a 'Drake' line in Cornwall. James Drake was born in 1789 at Landrake, Cornwall, the son of John Drake & Jane Ough. He married Joan Sheer, who was born at St. Ives, Cornwall. They appear to be related to the following: Emma Drake, of Liskeard, Cornwall, was born about 1852. If you can help with this line, I'd be pleased to put you in contact with Emma's great great granddaughter, who is researching this tree.
There are several 'Drax' & 'Drakes' families in Germany, and I am currently trying to link them into trees. One four-generation German family has traditions that they originated in England. My contact is now living in the USA and he wrote, " I can't say it often enough: what fantastic work!" Can anyone help with more German 'Drax' or 'Drakes' information, or German phone book entries? If you are a member of a German 'Drax' or 'Drakes' family, I would be delighted to hear from you.
