Froghall Wharf to Consall Forge.

Thanks to http://www.bootsandpaws.co.uk
for the use of the above picture.
This flat ride ( or walk ) on the Caldon canal towpath, starts at the Froghall Wharf car park and passes through the wooded Churnet valley for around 4 Km. The stopping off point is at The Black Lion pub - Consall Forge, where a bevvy or two can be enjoyed before returning along the same path.
| For a map of the directions, see HERE. |
Directions:
From Stoke on Trent, take the A52 up through Werrington
to Cellarhead. At the traffic lights, go ahead for about 2 miles.
On reaching the junction with the A522 ( from Cheadle ), turn left and continue
for around 1 and a half miles, and enter Kingsley - past The Plough Inn.
Pass the Railway Inn in Froghall, and look for the turn left AFTER the B5053
to Ipstones.
Do NOT go uphill, or you've gone too far. Froghall Wharf car park is a short
way along this lane. There are toilets, refreshments and a small tourist information
shop at the car park.
Once in the car park, face the canal and look to your left for the tow path
and ride or walk along here. Take caution for the first part of the journey,
as the path crosses the B5053 after a short while. Once beyond this however,
there are no more roads.
Just before reaching the Black Lion pub, you will see the Churnet Valley Steam
Railway station on the opposite side of the canal, (see Links below ).
