This scheme is being undertaken as part of the communities first project. The scheme is split into two main parts; the Eaglesbush valley reclamation which aims to provide walks, outdoor classes, and environmental improvements in the area, and the Galv. site project, where our clubs interests lie.
The galv site project takes in the area around the pond as well as the canal bank, and the aim is to
1 provide three main walks where people can jog, stroll, and enjoy the environment
2 resurface the galv. pitch for mini football
3 provide bird watching hides along the riverbank
4 improve access to the pond for walkers and anglers
5 clear the area of Japanese knotweed.
the first part of this long term project is to remove the Japanese knotweed infestation in the area being looked at. to this end the club, along with members of the Melin community first team, has been in action spraying the areas affected with weed killer. This is an action plan which will take a number of years to have any effect but must be done in a systematic way if it is to have a long lasting effect.
the end result should see a great improvement in the area, with walks along the canal and river with seats and stopping points for all to enjoy.
this section will be updated as the project progresses.
