HISTORY
The Cope Auditorium, formerly the Great Hall, has been named in honour of
the renowned local family, whose generous funding through The Helen Jean
Cope Trust helped to enable the building's refurbishment.
The refurbishment was designed by Loughborough architects Allcock and
Grieves, and provision has been made for the display of a casket and scroll
presented to Alan Moss - grandfather of Helen Jean Cope, and a director of
William Moss & Sons, the local company that built the original Great Hall -
when he was made a Freeman of the then Borough of Loughborough. It was
opened in June 2002, and is located on the east site of Loughborough
University's campus, close to the School of Art and Design.
The Auditorium is a centre of learning and culture for both students and
those in the local community, providing a venue for
large group teaching, and evening and weekend cultural and arts events. |
