Saltburn - then & now
Old Saltburn c.
1898: the old village of Saltburn is reputed to have been a
centre for the smuggling trade.
In the foreground are the cottages of Old Saltburn while in the distance the new seaside holiday resort of Saltburn
was beginning to grow. The pier can just be seen top right. The same view of . . . .
. . . . Old Saltburn today
Saltburn pier entrance (left) and the cliff raiway in action - c. 1906
Quiet and deserted today
Saltburn pier with Hunt Cliff beyond - c. 1905
It does get busier in summer!
Three shots from the top of the cliff railway
Another view of the pier and Hunt Cliff
The main railway
line into Saltburn ran all the way to the rear entrance of the
Zetland Hotel (now private residences)
which even had its own platform!
