Daarnaast nieuw geschreven muzikale herinneringen

HOMMAGE A ROSTROPOVICH Conductor: Valentin DONI, Moldova Soloist: Anatole Liebermann, cello, Russia Soloist: Klaudia Remencová-Kudjová, cello Soloist: Felicia Doni, piano, Moldova Program:
Mstislav Rostropovich was a legendary Russian cellist and conductor, considered to be the greatest cellist of the 20th century, with colossal talent and personality. At his death in 2007, the funeral was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Spanish Queen Sofia. The originator of this concert is Misha Katz, a student of Rostropovich and a favorite conductor and cellist here, who on this occasion turns the baton over to his friend, the excellent Moldavian conductor and composer Valentin Doni. A curiosity of the program will be the performance of a new work by the renowned Russian composer Elena Firsova: Elegy for Cello and Orchestra In Memory of Rostropovich. This work was composed for the famous Russian cellist Anatoly Liebermann, and is receiving its Slovak premiere here, shortly after its world premiere in London. A second musical treat will be the Slovak premiere of Balkan Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra, by Valentin Doni, performed by his daughter Felicia. |

Elena Firsova's "Far Away" by Continuum Sax. Sunday,
2nd May, 2010
http://www.worldnewmusicdays.com.au/?page_id=559 the performance is to be broadcast on the Internet during the World New Music Days festival through the website of the Classic FM Radio station of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. http://www.abc.net.au/classic/iscm2010/ I am sure that you will be
puzzled that we are playing your work for the ISCM festival. The story
is that we were asked to perform only 4 weeks ago when a musician from
New Zealand was taken ill and had to cancel her performance. We did
not have time to learn new repertoire (although we had given World Premieres
of the Davidson in February and the Ricketson last October) for this concert.
We are very pleased to be presenting Far Away again and in this forum.

Wednesday lunchtime concert: Gemini 03 February 2010, 13:15 - 14:00 Auditorium, Victoria Rooms Ian Mitchell (clarinet), Caroline Balding (violin), Huw Watkins (piano) Jonathan Harvey: Trio
The versatile and exciting contemporary music group Gemini (currently our ensemble-in-residence) has enthralled audiences and critics the world over with the sheer brilliance and exuberance of its performances. Since its formation thirty-five years ago, it has energetically championed the finest music of our time; today’s programme opens the door to some truly tantalising music both for the entire trio and for individual soloists, and includes a moving tribute from the highly esteemed Hungarian composer, György Kurtág, to Robert Schumann, a composer whose music he loved so profoundly. |

Symfonisch concert - Rotterdams Kamerorkest Jean Sibelius / Andante Festivo Elena
Firsova / Chamber concerto nr. 1
From Tavener's soulful settings of Akhmatova, via Birtwistle's austere Niedecker songs to John White's playful Satie re-workings and world premieres by Nicola LeFanu and Conservatoire award-winning PhD student Joanna Lee, this programme takes contemporary song onto new ground. |
