What we do - Our Curriculum

Children start to learn about the world around them from the moment they are born.  The care and education offered by Holly Hill Pre-School helps children continue to do this by providing interesting activities that are appropriate for their age and stage of development.

Our Curriculum follows the Early Learning Goals as set out by the DfES for the Foundation Stage of children’s learning.  The six key learning areas we focus on are:

  1. Personal, social and emotional development: in which goals relate to developing confidence and independence, learning to concentrate and enjoy sharing.
  2. Communication, language and literacy: developing skills such as talking, listening, writing and “Getting Ready to Read”.
  3. Maths: understanding and using numbers, quantity, measurement, shape and space.
  4. Knowledge and Understanding of the World: covers investigating and beginning to understand the things, places and people around them.
  5. Physical development: improving control and co-ordination of their bodies, developing motor skills.
  6. Creative development: finding ways to communicate using role play, colour, shape, sound, texture, movement and stories.

The Link to Home

We operate what is called a ‘Key Worker’ system which provides all Parents with a special link between child, Parent and Pre-School.  We keep a Record of Achievement for each child, which means we can identify your child’s stage of development and progress and plan the next steps.  We work closely with Parents to ensure all children are advancing.
